Q: Are Windows 10 Preview questions on-topic?

damryfbfnetsiAre questions about the Windows 10 Technical Preview (and its twin the Windows Insider Program) on-topic? Given that we have a reputation for closing questions relating to beta software (we even used to have an off-topic close reason used on questions relating to prerelease software and prototyp...

@damryfbfnetsi: meh, you're splitting hairs.
@JourneymanGeek What do you mean?
Do we still custom-close questions about bugs in beta software? Is that still a site rule despite the removal of the close reason? (I once flagged an old question closed under it to be reopened, and the flag was declined by another mod saying that "just because a close reason is removed does not mean that the question is on-topic"). — damryfbfnetsi 5 mins ago

Looking at some of my recent flagging statistics, I can see that a higher percentage of helpful flags I make are spam/offensive flags than in the past. Is it true that we're getting more spam, or do I just have a more watchful eye for it?

yes
@damryfbfnetsi: Windows 10 Preview questions, just like windows 8 preview questions are on topic
You'd generally close beta questions if they're under things like NDAs and that's been violated
@JourneymanGeek So that question which I was referring to was a misuse of the close reason?
I have no clue what you're referring to.
@JourneymanGeek So closed questions that are about it (and that was the sole reason for the closure) were mistakenly closed?
I am saying that windows 10 preview questions are on topic.
Specific examples, please

SPECIFIC EXAMPLES please?
IE, link or flag them. Since I'm here, the former is a better idea.

Q: Surface display screen stops working after leaving cover on for a long time

damryfbfnetsiI recently upgraded my Surface with Windows RT to Windows RT 8.1 Preview. When I close the Type Cover, the screen shuts down as it should. However, if I leave the cover on overnight, the display screen refuses to turn on, though I can tell that the tablet is on because of the vibration upon tappi...

That was the one I was referring to in that comment on your answer
ahh
meh, older question, resolved
No point in re-opening.
There's a deleted answer on that one; I deleted it because the problem resurfaced after doing that
I think it should be reopened because that problem still happens at times even after updating to the final version (even now)
You're no longer using the preview, right?
Edit the question to reflect that, gimme a poke, and I'll reopen it.
@JourneymanGeek Obviously not; it's expired now
@JourneymanGeek Updated.

However indirectly bringing up something that was closed last year with respect to current policy is disingenuous
@JourneymanGeek So you mean I shouldn't cast recommend closure flags against old software recs that were on-topic at the time of posting?
Generally? I wouldn't encourage looking for them.
Once again NOT THE SAME ISSUE
@JourneymanGeek I usually find them when cleaning tags
And I'd rather fix a software rec than close them.
I mean, asking me about what to do with software recs has nothing to do with preview tags.
@JourneymanGeek After fixing it to meet the guidelines, would you migrate it to SR? (Or is it impossible for mods to migrate to beta sites? I know they can migrate to any graduated site, even if it's not one of the 5 standard paths...)
Oct 3, 2014 01:30
Nope
we can migrate, but its discouraged
@JourneymanGeek If it graduated, would you change your mind?
nope
I'd migrate under the same constraints as a graduated site
OP requests, and it meets quality standards.
Okay, I have to leave now
