Welcome to Project Update Thursday
This week, I learned how electricity works.
I learned that when I was a kid, fork + receptacle = no more lights.
I've been working trim in my kitchen while I wait for the countertop people to return my calls. And I replaced the valves under my bathroom sink when I discovered one of them had been leaking and dripping for a while.

I also learned that some users prefer toasters to lamps, others hate the United States Marine Corps, and yet others are against the equal opportunity employment of lizards.
@BMitch Sounds like it might be time to contact different countertop people.
@Tester101 Unfortunately these guys already have my money, they're reputable enough from what I can tell, they just don't have a clue how to work a phone system.

I learned that if you're using a 1x3 as a straight edge for cutting drywall, be sure that your "helper" gives you back the same 1x3 after he moves everything around while your back is turned:
That's a lot of screws on the ceiling
Looks almost like a habitat project, everyone wants to put a screw in.
If you look between the studs in the first photo, you'll see R38 kraft paper backed insulation. The joist bays aren't 12" deep, so there's a little bit of downward pressure on the drywall
This is a friend's garage; I'm there because I have a drywall hoist. He had some R38 left over from a previous project so wanted to use it up
How much is a hoist to buy? I've always just rented them.
I paid about $150; it was at the low end of the professional price range
A half day rental at just after the half way point in the day gives an all night rental. I can't remember how much it was, but it was darn cheap.

But we've had this conversation before...

I even have my own drywall lift.

@NiallC I need to worship you now
lol
Some people get all the respect for having a truck to help friends move, others get a drywall lift.
Honestly, this company has the worst phone system, if someone doesn't pickup the VM asks you to enter the extension or lookup the name of the person in the directory, but I have neither an extension or a name so it won't let me leave a message. The VM's I've left before are after the system transfers me to the VA office.
You've tried the usual tricks of pressing 0, random keys, etc?
Hmm, and now the one live person I've reached can't seem to hear me.
Shouting in Russian...
Yup, tried the 0, menu says you should press * to just leave a message, which I do and it repeats the original extension/directory prompt but no longer says to press * for leaving a message.

And now this person's VM cuts the outgoing message off short and beeps while I'm leaving a message. I'm going to get a carrier pidgin.
@BMitch How long has this been going on?
They sound like total cowboys
Left one message on Monday, second on Tuesday, now I'm trying them a bunch today.
I just hope they are better at countertops than they are at phone systems.
Do they have an office nearby you can go yell at someone in person?
not sure how close they are, this is the 3rd party handling the order from Home Depot.

Yell at HD then. They may or may not be able to put pressure on the countertop people, but at least you'll feel better
Woo hoo, they finally called me back, measurement appointment scheduled
Yay!
Seems like harassing individuals instead of any of the main numbers is a better approach.
And now I feel like I've accomplished something for the day, other than installing a bunch of trim. :)

Getting trim work finished is a huge accomplishment IMO
It's fiddly and just takes a bunch of time to get it looking right
@NiallC. That's how I feel about walls. I have a room down to the studs for about 8 months now
@Jason If you're not too far from Portland Oregon, I've been known to rent out my drywall hoist in exchange for pizza'n'beer, barbecue, steak, etc.
There isn't much trim around these cabinets, and the finish nail gun makes it go quick. I will need to caulk a few spots, but it's going to be white walls, white cabinets, and white caulk, so it will all blend together and leave a lot larger margin for error.
What takes me forever is mudding, sanding is miserable, and it takes me a long time to get it smooth and spread out over a large enough area to make the joints unnoticeable. So far, I still notice, but then I also notice all the joints from the original builders.
So what would others do, dab a bit of caulk in the finish nail holes since I'll already have some on my fingers soon, or go buy some new spackle since my current container is almost certainly dried up?
