How would I get an object's rotation and set that as another's velocity? Like if I had Object A, that has the rotation data, and Object B, the object to be moved. How would I get that working in python?
Is there a simple way to log/save every render that you make in a Blender scene? Maybe an add-on? This would be helpful to visually see progress on modeling, materials, lighting, and whatnot. It would also be helpful if it could "print on" the date/time, vertex count, and the camera settings. Am ...
@DantheMan the lower you get the better, I even wrote small bytecode interpreters and virtual machines, it gives you a better understanding of languages and programming in general
Can you imagine making a circuit from scratch, designing it, writing the code for it etc :)
Its fun
If you are serious about programming, there is no better time than the present to start, read ALOT, download opensource projects and go through the source
I wish I had someone to tell me stuff like this when I was learning. :)
I have read the Wikipedia page on gimbal lock, and am still confused about the entire matter. My understanding is that, using a local coordinate system, if you rotate a model about its X axis then its Y and Z axes experience gimbal lock, and become "locked" together. However, my understanding i...
After learning bits and pieces of Maya, 3DS Max, IMAGINE and XSI I noticed that they all have Y-up worlds with Z being used for depth (naturally).
is there a way to make Blender a Y-up world?
and does anyone know why isnt it Y-up in the first place?
We recently entered public beta and while it's still very early, our stats are a bit lacking compared to what they could be, they could at least correlate with the number of users. At the time of writing Area51 is reporting.

3ds max has a sort of modifier that allows you to take a heavily subdivided mesh and take away some of the polygons that would anyhow create a single polygon (i.e they are facing the same way).

I know of blender, and have played with it a couple of times in the past, but that was with the old layout! the new one i haven't played with.
Question: What are the basics to know about blender(2.67)
I just experimenting with particles to create something like bullet time with particles ,what I've found particles speed could slow down near stop motion by setting timestep to 0.00001 but particles behave very strange how could I fix that. vid
I am building a tenement. After I have built one course of bricks I want to duplicate them to form an adjacent course, but with a negative scale, in the X axis.
When a story has been completed I want to duplicate this collection of courses and bricks, to create several stories.
I thought that pa...
For a while now I've been interested in prototyping parametric ways to generate geometry. The nodeview of Grasshopper reminds me a lot of the nodeviews we have in blender.
I was thinking, with the new pynodes feature maybe somebody has started to do work on node based parametric geometry creat...
Yesterday, I emailed Jonathan Williamson, one of the founders of Blender Cookie, and we're planning on hosting a scheduled chat right here on Blender.SE. The chat will be some sort of "interview the pros" discussion, where we can ask him questions about his history with Blender, other CG tools, p...
I modeled a house and wanted to render the rooms from the inside with the approximate sun lighting through the window. However cycles is incredibly slow in doing that. What should I change to increase render speed, I can even sacrifice quality for it as it is just planning the room.
The room is ...
I notice that every major SE site has its own logo. I don't know who has the power to set a logo, but I think it would also be a nice promotion to do a blender SE logo contest in the blender artist forum or something like that.

Blender is a visual tool and pure text answers can only go so far at times in explaining something. Alot of the answers so far have links to external video sites such as Vimeo or Youtube etc.

Should we enable the embedding of videos here? It could ...
