@BenBrocka Which ones came before this one?

Super Punch Out, Balloon Fight, Kirby's Adventure and F-Zero

Agreeing with @OrigamiRobot. Even though I'm anti-close by this SE's standards, I think this should be closed as too localised. There is a point where a question is unanswerable without updates that are unmaintainably frequent, and this question is beyond that point. — SevenSidedDie 11 mins ago
That's the last person I expected to agree with me.

@OrigamiRobot Just roll with it

@fbueckert I think Japan got Mother 2 though, lucky SOBs

I mean... err... Yea, I'm a totally cool guy who's always right.

5:04 PM
We get Earthbound finally but not for 30 cents

Also, yes Ia gree with you @OrigamiRobot. The post is too localized in time. IF you need to update the post multiple times a month for several years then the question is too localized in time.

@OrigamiRobot Yeah, I'm surprised when he agrees with me, too.
@BenBrocka We got it. That's what matters.

I disagree with @OrigamiRobot because I am a rebel
drives off into the sunset

I disagree with myself because I always do what @BenBrocka does.

This differs from a game updating since games aren't experiencing major updates several times a month requiring their questions to be constantly updated.

5:05 PM
@BenBrocka At first I thought that said "I disagree with @OrigamiRobot because I am a reddit"

What I really want is all those classic SNES RPGs to be released on VC.
Robotrek.
Seiken Densetsu 3. Never got an official release out here.

@Wipqozn And when a game is updated, there is a point of direct impact on the game which screams "Check you answers!"

Your aim for this site to be the #1 information source on games is noble, but misguided. The site will be what it will be--if it doesn't become the #1 information site for games, it's because the site's structure isn't suited to being the #1 site. No-one here is interested in breaking site functionality to aim for a goal the site may not be suited to anyway. It has a purpose that it's currently fulfilling just fine--high-quality answers to specific problems for most gamers--and that's not going to be sacrificed in a quest for ratings. — SevenSidedDie 8 mins ago
This. So much this.
I hate when people try to use arguments that just boil down to not liking the Arqade structure.

@Wipqozn This quest for rating would essentially be a race to see how fast we can get to Yahoo Answers.

he's such a sensible guy

I like how on meta, people will generally "accept" the answer they want as the outcome rather than the "correct" answer as determined by the community
as though by doing that they get their own way

@Wipqozn I'll be honest, I never really liked this guy, but I have a new found respect for him. I may not agree with him on things, but at least his opinions are well thought out and well intentioned.

@OrigamiRobot inb4 me, I guess

@kalina I know

@Sterno awww so sad, that has MarkTrapp all over it

5:16 PM
We just call him user3389 now.

he will always be Mark Trapp to me

@Sterno No. He will alwaus be @MarkTrapp.

inb4 @Wipqozn

@kalina I read that all wrong and embarrassed myself...

I can hear the distant cries of "literally hitler..." now...

5:17 PM
@OrigamiRobot ...
@OrigamiRobot I hope your perverted mind caused you no discomfort

Why wasn't accepting disabled for meta anyway?

because it's still useful

@kalina I didn't do it on purpose. I'm not a pervert. :(
2

@OrigamiRobot of course not...

30% of all Internet traffic is porn related, says the first result when I googled that question!

5:22 PM
of the remaining 70%, 65% is google, right?

@kalina T_T

If you want to keep your sanity, don't ever type "How do I" into Google's search, and let it autocomplete for you.

@kalina Do you mean all Google services, or just search?

@Powerlord all
@fbueckert I started typing "How do I find X rated..." into google earlier, saw the autocomplete list, sighed at myself and finished the sentence "...omni tools and biotic amps"

@Wipqozn I had a dream the other night that I was running through a field of Hitlers with @MarkTrapp.

Your dreams are star baiting

@Sterno On my honor as a robot.

Q: Why Metro 2033 having micro-lags?

LucasSince I installed Metro 2033 I can't play it comfortable because constant lags. I was looking for solution and I found only other people problems about frame drops. My problem is different, it's about micro-freezing while frame rate is still in constant value. The most strange thing about that is...

Q: How do you make a vertical slab on the xbox on minecraft?

MellissaI dont know how to make a vertical slab on minecraft and Im trying to make a bridge.

Hey, isn't there a site to create Custom Monopoly boards?
It'd be funny to make a Steam themed one and send it to Valve.
@GrumpyLazers Needs a system tag

@kalina Moure hounorable than cottoun candy peouple.

5:27 PM
@Powerlord mymonopoly.com ?

@OrigamiRobot why would you mock my language when it's obviously so good that Americans stole it?

@kalina It's fun.

@kalina Because it is mock-worthy.

if I didn't like you, I would have flagged you
not even joking

Aww how sweet.
I'd refrain from flagging you too. ;)

5:31 PM
@kalina Cuz you messed it up with your funny accents.

@Ullallulloo yeah but in the middle of an unrelated conversation, it's basically a personal insult
@Ullallulloo besides, don't talk to me about accents, I listened to the stackexchange podcast

@kalina Have you not noticed me doing it all the time?

@OrigamiRobot no, it's normally reserved for in the middle of our English vs Americans conversations
the only word I can naturally drop the U out of is color
everything else requires backspace

It would be silly of you to spell colour incorrectly anyway.

5:35 PM
I actually like the -our stuff, I just think it's a funny distinction.

@TimStone literally every programming language I've ever used uses color

At some point, someone had to consciously change it.

@TimStone Or behaviour.
Hmm.
Spell check says that's wrong.

@kalina Yeah, I've done background-colour a few times in CSS.

I thought Canadians used U and S?
thought it was only America that dropped U and used Z

5:37 PM
@kalina You don't give z enough credit.

Man, I want Animal Crossing soooo bad. It's going to be great.

Z is special but it loses its value if you overuse it

user15026
@wipqozn did you only do that because I came in?

Oxford spelling (or Oxford English Dictionary spelling) is the spelling used by Oxford University Press (OUP), including in its Oxford English Dictionary (OED), and other publishers who are "etymology conscious", according to Merriam-Webster. Apart from OUP, British dictionary publishers that use it include Cassell, Collins, and Longman. In digital documents it may be indicated by the language tag en-GB-oed. Oxford spelling can be recognized by its use of the suffix ‑ize instead of -ise: organization, privatize and recognizable instead of organisation, privatise and recognisable. The spel...

5:38 PM
@AshleyNunn I didn't even notice you entered the room.

@OrigamiRobot don't care

user15026
Also my copy of Radiant Historia arrived! Yay!

@kalina It's from the UK.

@AshleyNunn \o/

I will drop a nuke on Oxford

5:39 PM
@AshleyNunn Woo!
Such a fun game!

@AshleyNunn You mean you haven't played it yet?
(bonus points if you know what I just quoted)

@OrigamiRobot also see the line "language tag en-GB-oed"

user15026
I am super excited to play it when I get home

the language I speak is en-GB

And?

user15026
5:40 PM
@powerlord I haven't and I also don't know the reference

I am now going to eat skittles and drink pink lemonade

uhhhh

@kalina Every time I go somewhere that serves pink lemonade, I just order lemonade. They always say "Is pink lemonade OK?"

@fbueckert: How does the latest Fire Emblem game compare to the previous games in the series?

YES IT'S OK THEY'RE THE SAME THING

5:41 PM
@AshleyNunn It's the Legend of Zelda and it's really rad...

I'll ask first if this question hasn't been discussed to death
in which case I'll read the discussion

@Wipqozn Get it.

@Powerlord Those monsters from Gannon are really bad...

because this is pretty obviously a "why did they do it this way?" question and we don't allow those.

@OrigamiRobot Isn't pink lemonade just lemonade with grapefruit juice added to it?

5:42 PM
@Powerlord Not that I can taste.

Compared to previous ones, this one is hella funny.
It doesn't take itself too seriously, and the fact that you can re-class any which way gives it much more replay value.

@badp I don't think so

user15026
@powerlord ah, okay, I follow now

This sounds more like a, "Why did the devs design it that way?" kind of question. — fbueckert May 13 at 3:59
Hence the edit on the end of the question.

How is this question answerable from anyone but the game developers? From the FAQ (What kind of questions should I not ask here?) "You should only ask practical, answerable questions based on actual problems that you face. Chatty, open-ended questions diminish the usefulness of our site and push other questions off the front page." — Daenyth May 12 at 23:52

nothing
we're both still in the star list as well

well some of the reopen votes are here like @Ullallulloo

@Powerlord this has lemon, cranberry and raspberry in it to make it pink

5:46 PM
maybe they've seen something I haven't

@badp The only discussion I know of about that question is that which happens in the comments.

booooo!

None of which changes the fact that the question is unanswerable by anyone but the devs.

5:46 PM
There is no problem being solved in that question.

no problem is a pretty fundamental omission!

@OrigamiRobot That's not the bar we've been using, and there's more fitting bars to use against this question
why is this question downvoted? Is noone else interested in such "seems_to_be_to_trivial_because_it_is_as_it_is"-questions? I am a very interested person, and i am trying to figure out, WHY things are AS they are, so please leave a comment after downvoting. — Ekonion May 12 at 23:32

@badp Maybe we should go to a bar that serves better drinks.

@badp It sounds like it's asking if they had the tech to, not actually about the devs.

@Powerlord Gotten your invite yet?

5:48 PM
@badp At work, so no idea

@badp That's interesting emphasis...

@badp I'm just adding to the reasons, not proposing it is the best one.
Also, "practical, answerable questions based on actual problems that you face" is a bar we use.

@OrigamiRobot I just wanted to avoid starting separate discussions
@OrigamiRobot It's not the bar. Let's not get distracted here.

@badp I still think it can't be answered by anyone but the arcade manufacturers.
And seeing as how none of us are experts at manufacturing arcade machines...

@fbueckert strangely, the answerer emailed the people who made space invaders 2

WTF is Black Currant?

@kalina And the answer didn't help answer the question at all.

5:53 PM
no it didn't
well it did
because the asker wants to know if it was a technology limitation
and the answerer answered with "no"
Blackcurrant, with the scientific name Ribes nigrum, is a species of Ribes native to central and northern Europe, and northern Asia. It is widely cultivated commercially and domestically as a temperate fruit crop for its abundant berries. It is less well known in the United States where it has been subject to restrictions as a disease vector for most of the 20th century. Description Ribes nigrum, the blackcurrant, is a medium sized shrub, growing to x . The leaves are alternate, simple, 3–5 cm long and broad, and palmate with five lobes, with a serrated margin. When not in fruit...

Even if this was a "were they forced to do it that way?" question, We do not deal with game development issues either :) As for "seems to be to trivial because it is as it is" questions, the reason we don't allow these is because A. they're actually usually very much not trivial and B. they fall in areas like (again) game development or game design that are outside our field of expertise and the topic of this site. I'm afraid that if you agree this is the nature of your question, I'll have to close it. — badp 9 mins ago

@OrigamiRobot Conkerberry.

@kalina An answer that goes, "No, and I have no idea why it is the way it is" tends to indicate that the answer cannot be definitively answered.

@TimStone WTF is a Conkerberry

@fbueckert no @fbueckert NO
read
question: "was the three letter high score in early games with high score charts limited by technology?"
answer: "no, the first game to implement high scores had 5 letters"
= ANSWERED

5:55 PM
No, the question is
> Why is this limitation in place? Is there a technical reason for this, or is it just an arbitrary standard?

it's not a technical reason

I suppose that the answer wants to know what the standard is and why it's there

so it's an arbitrary standard

@kalina WHERE in that answer does it answer, "The reason high scores only stored X letters is Y"?

"because it is" and "because they want to"

5:56 PM
All it does is go, "Derp, I'm not sure, here's some stats related to it, though."

gaming.stackexchange.com/a/117198/23 looks like a more plausible explanation

don't make me reach for my mouse

Because... oh look, bacon!

I don't want to stop watching mythbusters

although it reeks of speculation and forgets that if you can't write FUCK you can still write FUK

5:57 PM
@badp except that it contradicts the facts from the other answer

Why is this limitation in place? Is there a technical reason for this, or is it just an arbitrary standard?

EDIT: This is not a "Why did they do that?" question, it's a "Were they FORCED to do that?" question.
answer says "no they weren't forced to do that"
I am correct

@OrigamiRobot A bush plum, naturally. But only in Australia.

does a little dance

@kalina He was steered that way by commenters

don't take this away from me

5:58 PM
@badp I think he steered it that way to avoid a closure.

plus
why is this question downvoted? Is noone else interested in such "seems_to_be_to_trivial_because_it_is_as_it_is"-questions? I am a very interested person, and i am trying to figure out, WHY things are AS they are, so please leave a comment after downvoting. — Ekonion May 12 at 23:32
is before most of the steering comments

@fbueckert That's legitimate and it would kinda save the question if it wasn't for the fact that it changed from off-topic game design to off-topic game dev
Okay

@badp Either way, I agree it should be closed.

MYTHBUSTERS GOING NOW

And I voted to that effect.
And it's currently closed, so I'm happy.

5:59 PM
ps > I believe it should be closed, hence why I voted like that
