Let me see, I think I have emailed more than 10 people on SE, lol.

@JasperLoy I don't do a lot of email..
@JorgeCastro you retagging?
Or been retagging?

user19161
@Seth OK, I tend to email people that I talk to a bit more in chat, and then we share some secrets there that we don't say in chat.

gotta tin

@TheLordofTime a good deal of them are either "Oh I rebooted and it worked", vote to close, but a bunch of them are people doing the Right Thing(tm) and posting the solution on their own
but no one voted for them so they sit in the unanswered queue

@JorgeCastro Or rather they answered themself and never marked it as the answer?

user19161
OMG @jorge is that really you?

but they usually can't right away anyway as the site is like "you can't answer yet, come back later"

@JorgeCastro See Also: Definition of Coffeeless Lord of Time.

user19161
What happend to your photo?

it's well defined on IRC :P

And I remember Oli gives great back massages from his mod election speech, LOL.

@JasperLoy It's basketball season, I am cheering for the spartans

lololololol

user19161
And I remember Oli put a kitten pic but someone removed it, LOL.

Ailurophobia I called it.

hey, @JorgeCastro, while you're here, did you ever look at that one applicant for bugcontrol?
(sorry to poke you here about it but bleh)

user19161
5:06 PM
That kitty pic was a distraction I guess.

(IRC = unstable on this wifi)

user19161
BTW I just read that Ubuntu is doing the Mir display server to replace X.

A: If I stop moving my (USB)mouse, it stops working until I click

Mike NailI am experiencing the same problem with A4Tech XL-750BF mouse. Exactly, after 3 seconds, the mouse stops working. Using wireshark, I can see that the system sends "Unknown type 3 Request" to the mouse. It is clearly initiated by the system, not the mouse. If anyone has some idea, I can provide ad...

@jokerdino you're a mod just go freakin read the flags queue
/me already flagged it
and I just read my flags history. This flag message made me LOL after the fact: Worthless cruft. No real question, no real context, borderline spam but doesn't fall into established "spam" category.

@TheLordofTime I don't remember what I did

@TheLordofTime queue is empty

I think I defaulted to "let's give him the benefit of the doubt, noted." and asked hggdhh if he had any issues
and he didn't respond so good enough for me!

Hey Jorge, can you nag the archive admins a bit? They are sitting on our package for quite some time :/

@JorgeCastro hggdh and I had discussed, and we said we wouldn't argue if he got in via upstream
but we were on the border for approve/novote (except I was borderline novote/disapprove) with the standard "I'm just a general triager!" application.
all's good. :)
goes back to stabbing the php5 package with a rusty spork
@jokerdino get back on the flags queue
new set of NaA's coming in.
/me found one, and is going to sift through all answers on the front page

5:15 PM
Sorry, I meant gotta run, not "tin" :/

still running?

Sorta.
I'm out of town.
So I'm really in and out.
So I'm here for a couple of minutes

ah, right.

huh, not much NaA's today

no, not really.

5:23 PM
although i did find a few :P
@jokerdino's been fast enough to get to them in the queue when I flag it :P

You guys suck, start flagging more.
13

@TheLordofTime it wasn't me. someone is faster than me today. ;)

Say, when are you around Marco :P
@jokerdino Probably Foss.

oh so it's @MarcoCeppi then.

foss went home at 5pm.

5:24 PM
Oh OK then. Not him.

shouldn't this be closed as Offtopic because Mint? askubuntu.com/questions/267830/…
@MarcoCeppi thanks.

@TheLordofTime might have been a bit hasty
looks like he's trying to install Ubuntu back on there but he's having hard drive issues

I'm kinda thinking it was...
I mean, it wasn't just mint..

@MarcoCeppi The way I read it, it's a Mint installation error.

sits back for a pop corn
it is a dupededupe anyway

5:28 PM
@TheLordofTime "Then I tried to put Ubuntu back on it, got the same error"
@jokerdino wins

@MarcoCeppi Oh, yeah, third-look showed that.

Q: "errno 5 - input/output error" when trying to install

Manuel Andrés VélezToday I downloaded Ubuntu for my laptop. It runs great from a bootable usb, but when I tried to install it, I've got the "errno 5 - input/output error". I tried everything to install it on my laptop, but nothing works (also re-download the iso).

reports mod abuse to the stackexchange community team

@jokerdino haha I love that you posted the duplicate instead of just closing it. not. :P

5:30 PM
@MarcoCeppi I added a comment "Possible duplicate: [link]"

i was. my slow internet is still loading the ajax dialog

@jokerdino oh, well it's closed

Really guys, there still isn't any point in downvoting it. glares at @TheLordofTime

@Seth downvote what?
the question?
why would I downvote a question?
unless it's spam or blatantly stupidly unable to be salvaged.

5:31 PM
@MarcoCeppi also, to give you a chance to fix the mistake? :p

I downvote all the time

Q: Ubuntu 12.10 won't boot on Surface Pro

MattI'm attempting to boot a 64bit Ubuntu 12.10 live USB on a Microsoft Surface Pro. I have disabled "secure boot". I have a live USB that can sucsessfully boot on another machine. just because, you know, blah.

5:32 PM
i was expecting a gif lol.

@TheLordofTime Okie. Wrong person :P

someone want to go after askubuntu.com/questions/267834/… and make it at least readable and able to be understood?

/me has no time. is leaving.

@TheLordofTime sounds like you just volunteered

@TheLordofTime thanks!

5:33 PM
@MarcoCeppi Nope. If i do anything, it'll be CV:NARQ

give it a month and close it as off topic because EOL

LOL
erm, wait.

I love how ridiculous the abbreviations are getting now a day

10.04 won't EOL in april
@jokerdino YOU FAIL
NOOB!

hm, servers vs desktop

5:35 PM
Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS
Lucid Lynx

EOL:
February 16, 2012
April 2013 (Desktop)
April 2015 (Server)
(for details)
not release specific.
@jokerdino package-specific

you saying 8.04 is not EOL?

i.e. server packages still actively supported and updated, desktop not so much, etc.
that question is 10.04
not 8.04
8.04 EOLs in april
not 10.04.

it is a desktop question no?

@jokerdino doesn't dictate whether we should help or not.
you know who i should have explain this to you?
I should have the release team explain this to you

i thought we changed the off topic guidelines

5:38 PM
A release that's no longer supported is too localized/off-topic

PACKAGE support means that it's PATCHED and UPDATED actively
Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop and Ubuntu 10.04 Server are still Ubuntu 10.04
Lucid Lynx
and are therefore STILL supported.
even after "Desktop" end-of-support
so as i said i should have the release team explain the "Desktop" vs. "Server" support

@TheLordofTime If Canonical says that a release is End Of Life, and by your own source, the destkop is End of Life in April, then it's off-topic

with 12.04 they made both Desktop and Server PACKAGES support 5 years.
@MarcoCeppi that doesn't mean the release is EOL
@JorgeCastro ping.

pong

does NOBODY listen?
@JorgeCastro Community guidelines for Desktop vs. Server LTS EOL support please.
Past Desktop EOL, is Lucid still considered a supported release?
Lucid overall including desktop and server.

5:41 PM
@TheLordofTime I'm not talking about that. If the wiki says the Lucid desktop is EOL on a certain date, then it's EOL

Lucid is supported for another 2 some years I thought

@JorgeCastro then explain wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

tsk, server guy

and advise @MarcoCeppi on applicable "Should we support it" crap.
before I snap and go on a ragemode rant

I'm confused what the question is
the wiki seems to explain it

5:42 PM
@JorgeCastro the debate is over wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

@JorgeCastro is 10.04 desktop release supported for another 2 years?

and whether the Desktop EOL date for Lucid means AskUbuntu should CEASE to support Desktop-related Lucid questions

no, the desktop is not supported, the wiki says that

@TheLordofTime I don't need to be advised, we've made a distinction that when a version of Ubuntu is no longer supported, read as EOL, then it's essentially off-topic/too localized. Same for any other EOL release

5:43 PM
okay, then i need to check with the IRC people too
because such a statement would also mean that IRC support would cease.
/me goes and pings Alan Bell of the IRCC

@TheLordofTime We're not IRC, they can have their own policides

WASN'T TALKING TO YOU @MARCO

I've never been in the OMG CLOSE ALL EOL questions boat anyway
we can't even close the worthless questions I don't see why people are so pro shutting them down

wookie the badass

5:45 PM
It's just a note going forward
Not sure why the rage, just so anyone else knows, if you're not happy with one of our made up policies, just post on meta and start a discussion about it. We reverse stuff all the time

I don't even get the rage over EOLed questions
we get like, a handful on occasion
but we get swamped in bug reports and those seem to get nothing but upvotes, lol

lol, a petty joke got magnified. that's all
@JorgeCastro heh, that works like "are you affected by this bug?"

6:02 PM
@TheLordofTime MY other point is that given the habit of a bunch of Unity developers ignoring bug reports having a guy who actually cared is a big +1 to me.
Sorry I missed when you posted that

Hola.

@GeorgeEdison hola hombre, los caballos estan listos.

What that...?
spanish now?

@RolandiXor I recognize one other word in that sentence: "hombre". That's "man", right?

Si, senor.

6:07 PM
So the sentence reads "Hello man, ..." followed by something I can't read :P

¿Hermano, por que tan serio?

"Brother, why do you have [something]?"

(My Spanish is quite rusty.)

so is mine lol

Hey, I just realized I can write:
if(some_function_that_returns_0_on_success())
    goto error;
if(some_other_similar_function())
    goto error;
As:
if(some_function_that_returns_0_on_success() || some_other_similar_function())
    goto error;

@GeorgeEdison you are the burro!! yeah

Method-chaining (sort-of) FTW!
I'm really tempted to write an article on my blog titled "Why We Should Bring Back goto."

Q: Bug in close vote display?

DaedalusWell, I believe this to be a tad minor.. but still a bug nonetheless. I recall that sometime today, a new display method for close votes was enabled.. next to the close button, instead of close 1, it now displayed close (1/5), or similar.. The problem comes in voting to close on a question that...

Yup, it's a known bug.

7:03 PM
Hi everybody!

Hey man :)

I saw your spanish post :D
hilarious :P

haha yes :D

you know, to say "haha" in spanish is "jaja", that is useful!
If you know that, you are done :)
Any mexican will recognize you jaja

lol so true :D

7:09 PM
@RolandiXor Maybe you can help me with this question
The error is solved, but new errors (differents) with the same command has appear.

En espanol?

jaja no, no, better in english

Oh the first answer is correct
install python-dev

@RolandiXor So what should I do, accept it and create a new question, modify the question adding the new error or.. what?
@RolandiXor yes :)

I would just update the question

7:11 PM
I searched this in meta but nothing is related
@JorgeCastro Note that the answer is 100% correct.

oh, you get a different error?

right

yeah new question, but I would link back to the old one for reference too

different errors appear in the same command
@JorgeCastro Oh, that is a good idea
I'll do that :)

@Lucio what Jorge said (I was doing something else, sorry for the delay)

7:14 PM
@RolandiXor @JorgeCastro Later I will create a meta post with this issue where you can participate there.
Because I didn't find anything there
Thanks to both! Gracias amigos :D

Q: Asking questions while using ubuntu+1

iBelieveCan I ask questions while using ubuntu+1 (in this case, Kubuntu 13.04) that are general questions about how to do stuff (that I believe are not specific to Raring), such as how to change settings in KDE, how to install software, etc. , not about problems and bugs? For example, I want to ask a qu...

NorthstarI'm using Linux (Ubuntu 12.04). I'm trying to know how 'find' command works. My question is, how can I run and test the C files for 'find' which I downloaded from the GNU findutils ?

@RolandiXor @JorgeCastro Now! Here is the post with your answer, fell free to modify it, criticize it and create new answers/comments :)

Nice :)
I edited the answer a bit.

@RolandiXor Thanks

@RolandiXor Hey! I almost forget of something..

Q: What should I do when a issue is solved but brings me a new issue in the same context?

LucioTrying to install from source a program I get an error in the ./configure command. I created a question (here) with this error and it was correctly answered and this error is now gone. But after that, in the same command, I get new/different errors. So, what should I do in such a case?

@Oli That is awesome!

Q: What could the "disable touchpad" Fn+F5 button disable? My touchpad does not work anymore even after reboot

d3kOk, I am getting crazy around this. I pressed Fn+F5 button that in my Samsung 9 laptop disables touchpad. It worked. Then I pressed it again. Clicks (and even click through tapping!) work, but pointer does not move. What is driving me mad is that: cat /dev/input/mice shows output when i use the t...

@guntbert the world ends.

C macros FTW. I've just eliminated untold number of lines from my source files and replaced them with macros.

10:47 PM
@MarcoCeppi i owe ya an apology, I've had a crappy day and I shouldn't have vented on ya.
Anyways, now whenever I see any support questions in #ubuntu on IRC, i can tell them to upgrade and pull !eol :P
also, TRIPLE SCREENING!
(three separate computers all together, with my laptop in the center xD)
LOTS of computing power.

11:08 PM
Hmm... these macros are now biting me.
Oh GCC. When will you improve your error messages???
How am I supposed to know that:
jni/jg_commit.c:30:50: error: expected ')' before '(' token
Means:
undeclared macro

which also means Your Code sucks?
nah, just kidding, but at least you don't have useless error messages like THAT

11:29 PM
error: Some error happened. Don't call tech support. They can't help you.

11:40 PM
@AbrahamVanHelpsing That's Apple :P

We're going to have to send it to the service center. Hope you bought Applecare. Have a nice day.
^^ That is apple

Which is basically "Don't call tech support, because you're screwed".
therefore it's still apple in both cases.

okay. time to put the torches and pitchforks away.

so, did I mention I have 3 systems all right next to each other right here in front of me?
