@AshRj - Sometimes it can be difficult to find an answer to a question through a web search if you don't know what you are looking for.
If you just put "How can I detect the edge of a table?" into google then only two answers on the first page of results are robot related, the rest are about computer vision, so are easy to miss.
Early in the life of a stack exchange site it's fine to allow basic questions - it allows people to build up rep and helps set a welcoming tone for the site, so that's why I thought this question was good enough to be worth answering.
