Woo Hoo! I got the "God" Badge. Hopefully no blasphemy there...

@AffableGeek LOL.

Salutations!
"Today is the day the Lord has made. Rejoice! And be glad in it!"

@aeoril Is that specific to today, or just a general statement?

@Tr
@TriG Both?
@TriG Are you a Christian?

11:06 AM
@aeoril Nope.

Do you claim any particular descriptive label like agnosticism, atheism, buddhism, hindi, humanism, etc. that would give me insight into your world view?
@TriG ^^

People tell lies. That happens.
Christians are people. Some Christians tell lies. No surprise.
And, in some circumstances, that's the right thing to do.
Rarely.
And people in politics lie. Partisan hacks lie. Frequently. No surprise there either.
But why does mainstream Christianity give such respect to shameless lying partisan hacks?
Charisma is not a minor publication. Stephen Strang is not a nameless unimportant figure. He has influence and respect.
Why do Christians give him that respect, given that he's a shameless hypocritical no-good lying political hack?

I've been on a kick to delete some posts that are low quality and just plain factually wrong. Rather than relying on mods, could we as a community get these deleted? Thanks!

A: Can an atheist go to heaven?

Steely DanThe idea that justification comes from faith alone, while being espoused pretty loudly in most of the responses to your question, is far from being the position taken by the majority of Christians. It is almost exclusively a Western Protestant doctrine. demonstrably false Both Roman Catholics a...

A: Which is hell: punishment, or revenge?

Steely DanFor the majority of the world's Christians (obviously we're talking about theistic Christians here), God doesn't "send people to Hell." Hell is not a physical place in universe, but rather the despair one experiences from not embracing a relationship with God. The suffering one experiences is n...

A: Are there any denominations that teach a Hell that is not a place?

Steely DanYes. One particular form of Christian atheism, (held by at least one person who exists, and which apparently does not have a name), at least, holds that Hell is "the feeling of despair and loneliness that comes from not feeling love for (and therefore loved by) one's fellow men."

Q: What is the minimum bar for a "denomination" / sect / tradition / etc...?

Affable GeekAccording to the FAQ, Christianity.StackExchange is for "any group that identifies themselves as Christian are to be considered on-topic" Additionally, it seems to pretty well established that we care about theology, and that: Theological claims must be backed by an external corpus that ...

@steelydan Besides the ones linked above, you've got a bunch of answers that have or are going to fall below a minimum standard. Particularly the ones that have had comments on them for months asking for references or challenging the assertions are going to be fair game for cleanup. I highly recommend doing some of the cleanup yourself, removing anything you don't plan on bringing up to par.
If you have another idea about how the site should function, now would be the time to air it out in a response of your own to Affables new meta post.

@AffableGeek I'm much happier to have the community delete these than have mods do it.

@waxeagle Me too, although I did do a couple of them today before I saw Affable's call here. There are several more that could be similarly reviewed.
I can't wait till we get C.SE in the DataExplorer.
I think that will make it easier to do site cleanup without picking on individual users.

The DataExplorer?

The entire corpus of data for graduated sites is available for query via SQL.

That is wicked cool. Thanks! I'm going to play now. The nice part about being sick is that I can play...

2:46 PM
Unfortunatly they don't do data dumps for sites still in beta, so we'll just have to bide our time.
Speaking of graduating, does anybody know which sites are ahead of us in the go-for-launch line?
I remember Jin said there was one or two ahead of us, but don't recall asking which ones we should watch out for.

Hey, @Caleb
This chat room but more importantly the Christian StackExchange site is a wonderful thing. Thanks to those involved in getting it going and keeping it going!

4:03 PM
@aeoril I'm glad you enjoy it! Of course, you can be a part of keeping it going by asking and answering questions and voting on other people's posts.

@aeoril So, what's specific about today?

4:30 PM
@Caleb Jin only said one. He didn't say which one it was though.

4:44 PM
@El'endiaStarman tried to figure it out from some stats and meta posts, but honestly have no clue cc @Caleb

@waxeagle I figure chat rooms would be a better way to go.

@El'endiaStarman hmmm I could stalk Jin's chat activity :) that's brilliant :)

@waxeagle ...that's even better than what I was thinking of. I was thinking of just going into each main chat room and doing a search for "graduat".

Looks like travel?
in You Are Here, Jul 24 at 16:52, by Jin
Travel SE is scheduled for graduation soon

@waxeagle July 24th.

4:55 PM
@El'endiaStarman still not graduated

in You Are Here, Oct 30 at 10:54, by hippietrail
@Dirty-flow: actually they've told us we're graduating and showed us the initial design, and now we don't know what the holdup is

@El'endiaStarman SE only has one designer, getting a full site design done (on top of the other work he has to do) takes quite a lot of time
and the fact that he works on more than one at a time...

Travel is my second favorite SE...
(No Offense, Jon!)

@AffableGeek :) you're in for an awesome 2013 then :)

Yup... Even more of my time shot to heck...

5:02 PM
@AffableGeek None taken!

TriG: "Today is the day the Lord has made. Rejoice, and be glad in it!"
Specific about today? I got up, the sun came up, the air was still here, I was alive.
Non-specific? That through Christ all things were made that were made, and without him not one thing was made that was made.
If you want a deeper argument than that?
Proverbs 3:5-6:

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

@TriG For more on the specific day, I have personally experienced the indwelling of hte Holy Spirit within me as a palpable, euphoric or joyful or comforting presence. I see signs and miracles not just now and then, but daily. The miracle of the universe, the world, nature and my own awareness which I cannot explain tells me of God's presence.
The point is, I know as reality that the God plays a daily role in every aspect of the universe in a palpable and meaningful manner, suffusing all existence with his Spirit, presence and infuence. So, each day I wake up and experience is indeed palpably a day the Lord has made both from the perspective of setting it all in motion and actively guiding and miraculously and constantly creating reality as he interacts with the universe and our souls.

@TRiG I'd never heard of Stephen Strang before this, but it looks like he belongs to the particular strand of American conservative Christianity that is more loyal to its conservatism than to its Christianity.
I may have just found a topic for my November blog post on church and state.

Q: What should we do with answers that don't meet the minimum threshhold of Christian *group*?

Affable GeekOne "feature" of Stack Exchange is that it is just as easy to post a "wrong" answer as it is a right one. The beauty of crowd-sourcing is that many eyeballs should push the "cream" to the top and the "chaff" to the bottom. The mechanism for this, of course, is the vote. This is still and alwa...
