nevermind - youtube.com/watch?v=hdK4vPz0qaI a couple minutes in

11:10 AM
@badp What was the problem with them losing on purpose, exactly?
... they don't get paid by the minute and tried to extend the match duration, do they?

@MartinSojka Disrespecting either your opponents, the organization or the olympic spirit
or all of the above
mainly the olympic spirit, though, at least in my eyes.

@badp So they're morally challenged losers. Still losers, though, so what's the problem again?

If you get second in a round Robin, you play the second in the other groups, so you have an easier match.

@RonanForman I see. And why didn't it change it to "next round's pairings will be determined at random"? This would solve the issue quickly.

11:15 AM
How it's done in football is first from one group plays second in the other, so winning is better.

@MartinSojka Because if you catch someone cheating the proper response isn't changing the rules to accommodate them. You remove them from the game.
2

@RonanForman It wasn't that simple either - if both Chinese couples won their groups, they would have had to face each other in the quarters

Q: What items provide quick heals in dota 2?

ThePlanI'm quite a beginner in dota 2, have gotten used to the game and I understand some basics of healing,I used to buy a bottle in every game because I always run out of mana/health or both very quickly but refilling it is difficult as I need to be on a constant lookout for runes or sometimes even te...

On January 27, 1994, the Barbados national football team and Grenada national football team played against each other as part of the qualification round for the 1994 Caribbean Cup. The result was later described as "one of the strangest football matches ever". The organizers of the tournament had chosen an unusual variant of the golden goal rule, which meant that the first goal scored in extra-time not only won the match, but also counted as double. The final score was 4−2, but only one goal was scored after the regular 90 minutes because of the rule. Barbados started the match needing to...
Barbados had to win by a 2-goal advantage to qualify over Grenada. They were leading 2-0 then Grenada scored in the fifth to last minute or so. Rather than looking for a 3-1 goal in 5 minutes, they scored an own goal bringing the match to the 2-2. This would have brought the game into extra-time with the golden goal rule variation where golden goals are worth two goals, not one. They picked scoring a goal in 15 minutes over scoring a goal in 5 minutes.

@badp I heard the problem was the Danish team had beaten the other Chinese team so they weren't first seated.

11:24 AM
The Grenada players caught on and started attempting to score an own goal of their own in order to lose 2-3 and still qualify. Soon each team had to defend the opponent's net for those 5 minutes.
(As you can see Barbados got their double golden goal and proceeded to the quarter finals, where they lost to the tourney winners.)
You just can't make this shit up.

11:38 AM
I'm pretty sure you can, I mean they did.
The players that is.

Italian arts and stuff

Proposed Q&A site for surfer dudes that like to think and stuff

Currently in definition.

@LessPop_MoreFizz closed as poorly defined by warren, WikiSpeedia hang-around, DJClayworth, Robert Cartaino♦ 2 days ago
I saw that the first time btw :)

@LessPop_MoreFizz It's like they looked at existing sites, without realizing WHY the existing sites worked.

besides, pretty much none of the seas around Italy is any good for surfing

Malta, perhaps?

Geek-GirlFriend-Handling

Proposed Q&A site for geek men who don't understand women, and want to spend more time with their projects, StarCraft2, board games and such.

Currently in definition.

12:14 PM
@Wipqozn I'm a game dev, so ... my first instinct is to "fix the game, not the player". :)

> What's the formula for [ the optimal time I should spend with girlfriend to keep her happy while maximizing my gaming time ] ?

@Wipqozn Playing to win isn't cheating. The tournament organizers should be embarrassed. I don't blame the players at all.

> “Because when you order a Papa John’s pizza, it’s only after you’ve reached a state of such desperate, gnawing hunger that you would eat the ass off a raccoon that drowned in your bird bath. And even then, only after making absolutely sure that you’re all out of drowned raccoon ass. And now Obama expects you to shell out almost three extra nickels for this hot turd pie? Fuck that, eat the nickels, you have your dignity.”

@StrixVaria Simple. If you want more sex, spend more time with the girlfriend. Otherwise, spend time gaming.

FAE
12:19 PM
@fbueckert For some girls, the answer is spend more time gaming.

@StrixVaria It's cheating the spirit of the competition. The objective in the Olympic games isn't winning.

@badp News to me.

@FAE I need one of those. They're a very rare breed.

If the spirit of the competition and winning require playing differently, the organizing agency is to blame.
I do not blame the badminton players at all.

> The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.

12:20 PM
@badp Then they might as well not give out medals.

FAE
@fbueckert I'm personally fond of combining the two. :P

Or give out medals for trying your best.

@StrixVaria The fact that he talks about what he describes as a 'kingmaker' problem and doesn't recognize it manifesting itself in the Badminton situation ruins his credibility here for me.

meh - if you want to disrespect your opposition, the people working for your chance of glory or what the olympics stand for then showing you the door is entirely appropriate if you ask me

It's a competition, whatever moral high ground some people take. If you're not playing to win, you don't deserve to be there. If you organize a tournament that's so shitty that you can get an advantage by losing, then you'd be stupid to not try to lose.

12:21 PM
There's no way you can organize a tourney where there's no advantage in losing ever

@FAE You're not helping. :P

(By throwing matches, the Chinese teams weren't just giving themselves 'easier' opponents - they were guaranteeing that they'd never face each other in anything other than a gold medal match - it was the only way they could preserve an opportunity for a 1-2/gold-silver finish for China.)

@badp Then at least minimize it. The Badminton tournament rules were received critically before the tournament even started because it made losing advantageous more than normal.

@OrigamiRobot sdflkseapofksdolaksf
How did that shitty proposal get 30 followers?

Q: Is it viable to play Annie as a tank?

edemI started playing Annie lately and I just realized that Annie has everything that a tank needs: She has a decent defensive steroid which is almost permanent with 40% CDR She has almost spammable AOE stun which is great for initiating teamfights and CC-ing people My question is: assuming that ...

FAE
12:23 PM
@fbueckert Sure I am, I'm helping you figure out what you want in life. :D?

@Wipqozn TypicalStackOverflowUsers.

Morning, Bridge.

We already have a relationships proposal. We don't need a relationship proposal for every specific type of relationship problem you come across.

@FAE I know what I want already. :P

@StrixVaria That's a different matter, but at the end of the day judges are judges and players are players aren't judges. When you sign up to the tourney you accept the rules

FAE
12:24 PM
@fbueckert In what manner am I not helping then? <<

If a tourney official tells you to stop fucking around and play the damn game and you keep fucking around then you probably aren't going to get your way.

Relationships

Proposed Q&A site for people seeking answers to questions about dating, long term relationships, love, marriage or other commitments, and everything else typically considered a "relationship". (Intended to encompass the Love and Dating sites and extend them.)

Currently in commitment.

@FAE Well, first off, a girlfriend who can keep up with me.

There it is, but it was closed due to sitting around for two years.

12:25 PM
This is harder to find than a gamer girl.

@badp The tournament, to me, has no credibility at this point. And it shouldn't to those players either.
If they disqualify you for doing your best to win the tournament, they have no business running a tournament.
Anyway, I have to go get ready for work.

Also, the obvious answer is have sex with your girlfriend while gaming. It's like that episode of Seinfeld where George tries eating and watching TV during sex.

@StrixVaria "doing your best to win the tournament" includes cheating, doping, etc

@Wipqozn "It appears that "Relationships" will fail due to commitment issues."

@Koviko Yes.

12:27 PM
@Koviko Hehehe

Coffee

Proposed Q&A site for consumers of coffee, coffee growers, baristas, coffee connoisseurs, and experts on coffee and espresso beverages.

Currently in definition.

soooo many shitty proposals.

You could kill everybody else who takes part in a tourney in a best effort to win it

SEriously. ARea 51 is like TV Tropes for me. Once I get on there I can't stop, because I need to find and complain about all the shitty proposals. Which is 90% of them.

It turns out that to win a tourney you also need to not be disqualified from it. Who woulda thunk?

@Wipqozn That said... Wtf IS Area 51? Because apparently, they have dating questions.

12:28 PM
@Koviko IT's a site for proposing Stack Exchange sites.

FAE
@fbueckert Obviously, you just need to find a lovely dancer who moves fast enough to keep up with your frenzied feet.

Area 51 is how new SE sites are made.

@Wipqozn ... How many do we need? Tiny communities are weird.

@FAE ALSO hard to find one of those.

How is Stack Exchange sites formed?
@Koviko The A51 process is there to make sure there's at least enough people to get a site going
That's why there's the two phases before the site goes into beta

12:30 PM
@YiJiang But that doesn't stop people from proposing sites that will obviously never work in the first place.

@Wipqozn There is no defense against stupidity

@Wipqozn Coffee is about the least shitty shitty proposal tbqh. Like, it's a dupe of cooking, but if it weren't, it'd be entirely legit.

FAE
@fbueckert You should show us youtube videos of you dancing!

Or ignorance for that matter

There's a serious hobbyist community there.

12:31 PM
@Wipqozn I'm going to propose a SE site for the Final Fantasy universe.

Also:

Atheism/Agnosticism

Proposed Q&A site for those who in their search for the truth about a deity or deities have found insufficient evidence to establish belief, or have found sufficient evidence to establish disbelief in a deity or deities.

Proposed Q&A site for networking professionals, system administrators and power users who seek to deploy IPv6 in their networks.

Currently in definition.

@Wipqozn I haven't read the proposal... But why?

@FAE Actually, I've got a performance in about a month. The idea is to film that.

12:32 PM

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Proposed Q&A site for pastafarians and other fellow Flying Spaghetti Monster believers

Currently in definition.

FAE
@fbueckert Oh cool, you totally should!

@Koviko I don't know. I'm a fairly proud Atheist and all, but I don't see that site will fair any better than the old one.

@Koviko You do realize that there was an atheism proposal that actually went into beta, then floundered and failed

Lists

Proposed Q&A site for those who ask for lists (which are not allowed on Stackexchange) - from a list of languages in the world to a list of all planets in Star Wars!

Currently in definition.

@YiJiang Sounds like what I'd expect.

12:33 PM
Yeah, the most popular tag there was [debate-points], which is hilarious

A site about Atheism would be less about learning about Atheism and more about learning flaws in other religions.
@YiJiang Yup, fucking this.
The only purpose would be to educate them to better argue with the "hopelessly religious"

@Koviko There's nothing to learn about Atheism. All atheism says is "You don't believe in God".

Well, there are a lot of high level philosophical stuff which might prove interesting, but there's a Philosophy.SE already

@Wipqozn Exactly. There's a reason we don't have an Atheist church.

@Wipqozn One of my top 5 favorites.

12:35 PM
Church teaches the Holy Book on a weekly basis.

@badp Doping is generally explicitly against the rules. Any reasonable tournament has a forefeit option. I don't see what the disqualified teams did that is "cheating".
Clearly I won't be able to convince you, though.
So I'm going to just step out of the conversation here.

@StrixVaria The referees told the sides to play for real, they didn't. I'm pretty sure "follow the direction" is part of the rules

What if they were just having a bad day?
"You told us to try. We totally did."

@badp That doesn't mean the refs direction was correct to begin with.

Honestly, I would do the same thing as those players, because it proves a point and brings to light issues with the whole tournament. I would gladly get disqualified to cause that controversy, because the tournament is stupid.

12:37 PM
I think it is, and that they should be playing to win each game instead of gaming the system, but just wanted to point that out.

> In the name of all the competitors I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, committing ourselves to a sport without doping and without drugs, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams.

Still waiting for you to offer a counter to lists @LessPop_MoreFizz.

> In the name of all the coaches and other members of the athletes' entourage, I promise that we shall commit ourselves to ensuring that the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play is fully adhered to and upheld in accordance with the fundamental principles of Olympism

@Wipqozn Keep waiting, I gotta go to work. Though I seem to recall 'funny' and 'humor' and 'off-topic' all being there.

@badp So, instead of addressing the issue, they are just going to live with it "in good spirit"?

12:40 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz Okay, well, someone should post one, because I already have my next one lined up. It will be hilarious.

That's a bullshit way to approach a set of rules that glorifies losers.

@Koviko Punishing people for breaking the spirit of the rules and the events you signed up for doesn't seem this outlandish to me

@Wipqozn Is it New World Order?

@badp They should fix that. Nowadays it's should end with "... for the glory of the advertising companies who paid us and in honour of their partners."

@LessPop_MoreFizz Oh my no.

12:40 PM
It ought to be New World Order.

Science Fiction & Fantasyscifi.stackexchange.com

Launched Q&A site for people addicted to science fiction and fantasy, be it in the form of books, tv series, or movies.

@Wipqozn ZING

@badp The "spirit" of the rules aren't the rules.
Unless it says in the rules that you can't play badly
Then it's not against the rules.

IMO they got what they deserved

Also:
You can tell it's me because I'm giving someone a brohoof.

12:44 PM
@Koviko Well, I'm no badminton rule expert, but it seems they got punished anyway.

@Koviko Well, "you should play each match to your best ability" and "follow the orders of the referee" is somewhere in there. I'd say the rules themselves are broken, and protesting broken rules (and law) by intentionally breaking them in the most visible way possible, as an act of civil disobedience, is totally a good idea.

@badp I thought the issue was whether it was justified, not whether it happened.
@MartinSojka I think they just need a good lawyer.
Olympic quality.

@MartinSojka So if you believe people have a right to kill other people you should uphold it by killing as many people as possible in the most graphic, visible way possible and then claim civil disobedience?

@badp Exactly. Keep in mind the concept of "civil disobedience" includes "... being punished by doing so to the full extent of the law."

12:47 PM
Playing fields are not the place to lawyer around broken rules

@RedRiderX They look like the covers a rental service would use.

@RavenDreamer Ahh, I thought it was weird you wanted to visit on a Tuesday. The weekend before is actually not good for me - I have another friend visiting (I'm so popular, apparently)

@Wipqozn I wish rental places around here would use these covers:

@badp But if they didn't actually break any laws / rules, then I don't see how this metaphor fits

If there were any video game rental places out in the sticks.

12:49 PM
Our system luckily accounts for all of the murder loopholes.

@Koviko the referee warned them about continuing an action he did not deem right, they broke his ruling

@Blem Yes, but if the referees ruling was unjust then they shouldn't need to obey it. What if the ref told them to intentionally throw the game?

@Blem As an Olympian, I can see them looking down on some random referee.
Being in the Olympics is probably a huge ego booster.

@Koviko I would hope so.

A huge ego boosters for both sides, probably ;)
You don't just wake up one day and become an olympic referee.

12:51 PM
@badp You totally do.

Although apparently you can just wake up one day and become an olympic timekeeper. cough epee cough

@Wipqozn if they felt the ruling was unjust they should have filed a complaint there, not keep going like nothing happened

@badp We don't know that. I assume Olympic referees are just regular referees.
Just like our Olympic basketball stars are just regular NBA stars.

@Koviko Basing myself off what I know about other sports, the referees are totally not chosen at random. Only the "best" referees make it there

12:53 PM
@badp But what if the truly best referees don't do "regular sports"?

@Blem Okay, fair enough. The point I was making was that just because the referee told them not to do something doesn't mean that makes the ruling correct.

I hear plenty of guys who yell at umpires, telling them how much better they could do it

@Koviko wat

But that they sare saving their skills for the Olympics.

@Koviko wat
"Please don't ask me to close too many questions, I need to save up my judging skills for when I'll ban Koviko"
- no one ever

FAE
12:54 PM
@Lazers Haha, @Oak, I figured you were having some issues after seeing you restart so many times.

@Wipqozn I agree with that, but just because you don't agree with a refs ruling don't mean you can ignore it

@badp Keep asking him questions!
@Blem Was the referee fat or balding?

@Koviko bald iirc

@Blem Instant respect-loss.

12:56 PM
Does anyone else agree that this should be closed in its current state:

Q: How can one correctly judge how aggressively to play, particularly in public games?

BinaryMageI tend to have a hard time deciding how aggressive to be, mostly in-lane, in MOBA-style public games. Sometimes, I will go in for a easy first blood and my lane partner will just sit farming creeps. Other times they tower dive every other minute. Private games are not an option for me. Should...

Well this is one match, there's that other one with the other two teams.

FAE
@StrixVaria Yes.
It's going to differ from game to game.

46 secs ago, by FAE
@StrixVaria Yes.

@FAE ...so if he changed the question to target one game...

FAE
@badp It would be a lot more answerable. As it is, it's too broad to be useful and too broad for someone to give a good answer to, IMO.

12:58 PM

I think it's probably too vague or open-ended, but not because it asks about MOBAs in general. The question's probably open enough choosing a specific game wouldn't really make it much better.

@FAE It's still a sketchy question, but I don't think close-worthy if limited to one game.
I think it can be reworked into a "How can I dynamically adapt to my lane partner?" question.

It seems like the kind of question you'd need to write a book in order to answer fully

FAE
@StrixVaria I agree.
@StrixVaria This would work much better.

1:03 PM
btw
A player shall not:
16.6.1 deliberately cause delay in, or suspension of, play;
16.6.2 deliberately modify or damage the shuttle in order to change its speed or its flight;
16.6.3 behave in an offensive manner; or
16.6.4 be guilty of misconduct not otherwise covered by the Laws of Badminton.
Administration of breach
The umpire shall administer any breach of Law 16.4.1, 16.5.2 or 16.6 by:
16.7.1.1 issuing a warning to the offending side;
16.7.1.2 faulting the offending side, if previously warned. Two such faults by a side shall be considered to be a persistent offence; or in cases of flagran
16.6.4 + 16.7.1.2, for the forum lawyers amongst us

who shall have the power to disqualify the offending side from the match
That's what the players wanted.
They were using the rules to their advantage.

@StrixVaria they wanted to get themselves disqualified?

Dammit I need to stop responding to this.

@StrixVaria oh, you think a match DQ doesn't translate in a tourney DQ? I dunno if it does but it sounds reasonable for the DQ to carry over

1:07 PM
49 mins ago, by StrixVaria
@Wipqozn Playing to win isn't cheating. The tournament organizers should be embarrassed. I don't blame the players at all.
gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawd @Sterno, try to keep up. Jeez. :P

@Wipqozn That's what I get for waking up late!

@Sterno yup!

I blame @Wipqozn

@Sterno I've read that, I still disagree completely. If you really do want to play to win at least do make sure you don't get disqualified up in the process!
Be less obvious about your throwing the match away!

I think the main point is that the tournament structure is ridiculous

1:09 PM
@Sterno I prefer the term "broken by design".

@Sterno The argument isn't very valid; the author doesn't present a tourney structure without lame ducks and king makers.

I could have sworn he discussed that it needed to have "you lose, you get knocked out" rules
But I might be thinking of another article

@badp "You can't argument against something unless you can do better." has never been a valid counter-argument.

@MartinSojka "This tourney sucks, they should make it better. Look at this alternative: boy it sucks. Here's that other alternative: god it is terrible." isn't an argument to begin with

@badp elimination?

1:13 PM
@badp It's a criticism; he points out where the rules are broken and why, and also presents an argument about why other alternatives shouldn't be used either, and why. Last I checked, a critic doesn't have to be a creator.

@murgatroid99 Sure, you could do that, but pretty much no team sport does that for... I have no idea, human factors?

See also: Film critics not usually being film producers.

I mean, soccer has groups + elimination, all US sports have groups + elimination, etc.

@badp Advertising money.

@MartinSojka By this logic no sport should be purely elimination.
Counter-example: fencing.

1:15 PM
@badp People grow tired after a while; you want to strike a balance where you'll get the most views overall, thus the most profit.

Fencing could do excellent elimination style. Just remove the padding and blunt tips
2

Leagues can get away with not having eliminations by virtue of having long pauses between matches.

@Sterno Fencing at the olympics is purely elimination

@badp I'm saying they can spice it up!
I would totally watch that.

@Sterno Use real swords too!
Man, I need to take up fencing again. I haven't gone fencing since high school.

1:17 PM
And of course shooting can bring back duels - 2 men in, 1 man out

Just sharpen the tips of the foils and you're there. I fenced in college and damn near got killed once when one broke
I always liked fencing with epee best though. Felt more adventurous!

Eh. If they're going to be using swords, at least use ones that can cause proper gashes.

@Sterno Agreed.

Rapiers are all about poking. Hard to chop an arm off in that sense.

Hated the sabre. It felt like a slap fight.

1:22 PM
@Sterno I never played saber. I only foil and epee.
Man, I really want to take up fencing again.
Which reminds me, I haven't played squash in months.

@Wipqozn Racquetball is superior to squash.
Although squash is fun...

@StrixVaria I've never played Racquetball before, only Squash.

@Wipqozn You probably want to wait until the world of fencing discovers this new fangled technological discovery called fractions of a second

I only played squash in a phys ed course during college, so not very much at all.
It completely ruined my next few racquetball games, though.
I forgot how high that ball bounced.

Q: How can I get rid of the Falmer tome misc objective?

kotekzotI've found Unknown Book, Vol. 1 and sold it to Urag, but the objective 'Bring Ancient Falmer Tome to Urag-gro Shub' is still active. How can I get rid of it?

@badp Epee doesn't have priority, so problem solved!

I do have to admit, when both teams are competing to lose, that makes for an interesting game

@StrixVaria Squash is great. Although yeah, going back to tennis you spend a lot of time chasing balls...
@Sterno This is a fun way to play chess.
You make the rule that if an opponent can take a piece, they must take a piece.
Likewise you must take moves that place your opponent in check/mate

Man, I need to start playing Chess again too.

Antichess, also called losing chess, zero chess, giveaway chess, suicide chess, take-me chess, reverse chess, or shmess is a chess variant in which the objective of the participants is to get all of their pieces captured. The most widely played variation, as described in the book Popular Chess Variants by D.B. Pritchard, is described below. My word. Squash, Fencing, Chess. There are no end to the activities I need to resume playing.

@Wipqozn Meh. Forget old hobbies. Take up new ones!

@QAdley Thomas has finally updated the server.

@fbueckert I've always wanted to take up Mountain climbing!

@RonanForman I noticed. I am looking forward to actually being able to afford high-rep enchants

@Wipqozn You've got to play all those Steam games you just bought, too

1:39 PM
@Wipqozn There you go!

@Sterno I know! Bah, life is too short.

@MartinSojka That's the one

Good luck finding one of those on a peninsula, though.

I blame @Wipqozn.

@QAdley Find a spawner. Work for some half an hour to set up a mob grinder. Done.

1:39 PM
@MartinSojka We have an enderman farm

@fbueckert I'll just move to Saskatchewan. There are loads of mountains there, right?

added to the list of GIFs I need to find a use for

But it still takes took ages to actually get enough rep

@Wipqozn Pfft. It's flatland. Completely.

1:40 PM

@badp I like it. It's got a good rhythm to it

@StrixVaria granted

@QAdley I don't know. I usually set up a "fall damage" grinder for such - mobs get transported up from the spawner by water, fall down to the spawner level (but outside the actual "spawn exclusion zone") again, able to get killed by a single un-armed hit. I stay near the killing zone for a while (so hundreds of mobs accumulate, eventually), then grab my XP/drops in minutes.

@MartinSojka That's what we have, but even killing endermen as fast as you can click, 50 levels of rep took a good quarter of an hour
RSI 'o clock

Who's the biggest WoW fan in the room who doesn't have access to the beta?

@IvoFlipse Not I. I'm staying away from that game, permanently.
Also, Legends of Pegasus is released today! Yay!

2:01 PM
@IvoFlipse Have a beta key?

What have those idiots done to my beautiful nether stronghold?

@Wipqozn Yeah, I just won one

@Wipqozn Yay for Corner Gas reference!

@IvoFlipse I think @LessPop_MoreFizz is a big WoW player, but I think he's already in.
@RedRiderX Go Canada! highfive
@Blem I love Dorkly.

2:05 PM
@RonanForman Oh dear, what's happenned?

@IvoFlipse I could use a beta key,but my account is currently frozen

@QAdley Cobblestone everywhere.

@RonanForman :-(
@RonanForman @ThomasMcDonald may be able to revert it for you

Blem you don’t need a working account to participate I think. Tempted myself, but I'm going on vacation

I'M GONNA PUNCH THE TURTLE IN THE SHELL.
5

2:13 PM
@IvoFlipse I will gladly take it then

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. kicks Wipqozn's shell off

@Mana That's going to hurt.

also good morning.

@Mana You're so mean.
Also, you can't just remove a turtles shell. It's attached to them
This isn't mario @Mana, this is real life.

I just did. What now, turtle?!

2:17 PM
@Wipqozn You mean...Mario isn't real!? All I have learned, for nothing!

@fbueckert Mario is real. He was a plumber on an acid trip.
Seemed to be an accurate depiction, to me.

@Mana Well, I'm in an incredible amount of pain, because you just ripped off my shell like some barbarian.

@Koviko Man, the carnage around him when he came down would've been epic.

@Wipqozn good.

@fbueckert "The princess is in another castle" wakes up OH GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE?!

2:19 PM
Also, I had a dream the other night that my boss was a master assassin.

@Wipqozn So sad.
Maybe that's a bit much.
How can I make the image not display immediately?
Much better. I can't look at that image for very long.

@Wipqozn That doesn't sound like fun.
@Koviko Dead guards all around. Bowser turned out to be nothing more than one of those chinese dragons people wave around at festivals.

@fbueckert A bunch of children have been smashed by his buttocks and he's littered the streets with broken lamp posts that he's been punching from underneath.

@Blem you've got mail

@Koviko Gotta admit, while it's going on, that's going to be an epic acid trip.

2:25 PM
@IvoFlipse Thanks, added it and started copying my DK

@fbueckert Especially since he's winning in it. Most people aren't as fortunate.

@Blem Enjoy and start asking questions :P

I haven't played WoW for nearly a year (exept 1 week free resurection) and wasnt sure what char to play in MoP

@wipqozn FUCK YOU I'M 16 MONTHS CLEAN.

@LessPop_MoreFizz You've gone 16 months without killing anyone? Congratulations.

2:28 PM
COPY COMPLET! guess it is time to call it a weekend and go home

@LessPop_MoreFizz Didn't you just replace WoW with TSW though?

@Wipqozn It's like replacing cocaine with marijuana.
WoW refuses to let you go. TSW is EA and will inevitably disappoint in the end.

@Koviko So no Happy Ending with TSW?

@Wipqozn Depends on what you enjoy in your games. It definitely seem grinder-friendly.

2:47 PM
Also, my zeus. The number of terrible image hosting sites is increasing everyday.

‘SRP’ Won’t Protect Blizzard’s Stolen Passwords: opine.me/blizzards-battle-net-hack
8

@YiJiang So the 2-way auth and everything is useless?

Not sure about two way auth, but the article states that you should assume the attacker has your plaintext password

@IvoFlipse That wasn't the point of the article. It's saying that even if they can't get into your WoW account, they can get into, for example, your e-mail if you use the same password.

2:52 PM
@YiJiang That's just regular security practice.
Don't rely on encryption to protect your password if it gets stolen.

@Wipqozn RIP another bit of hope for humanity.
And turtanitly.

@fbueckert Blizzard's statement makes it seem like the attacker would not be able to obtain that, and this article is calling them out on that

@YiJiang For the most part, encryption only increases the amount of time it takes to pull your password. If a database gets hacked, you should change it regardless.
And Blizzard's statement says it's tough encryption, but you should change your password anyways.

Seems like it would be relevant to your interests. I know you like your speed runs.

@Wipqozn Now I'm going to have that cartoon playing through my head all day...
I blame you @Wipqozn.

@Wipqozn That's old news.

@fbueckert Oh, it is. Well shit.

@YiJiang Blizzard basically said that they won't be able to get everyone's password this quickly.

Q: If I purchase digitally, then redeem a collector's edition key, can I get reimbursed?

McKayI've already preordered my copy of the Mists of Pandaria Collector's edition, the physical version from Amazon, but I don't want to wait until the mail comes to play. What happens if I buy a digital version, then redeem a physical edition? Do I get reimbursed for any of the digital purchase?

They said it's computationally expensive, meaning that they may have cracked some but not all.
