J.M. reminds here that it may be useful to check, whether some tags that already had been removed are not being used again.
Perhaps a list of such tags could be useful.
I'll mention here at least the ones I am aware of.
Instead of algebra we use algebra-precalculus and abstract-algebra. See meta here and here.

When I look at new tags: Is variables really useful? (Maybe it is; one thing that I can imagine are questions related to free variables and bound variables in logic.) It would be nice if we had tag-excerpt and tag-wiki explaining the intended usage of this tag, but it's probably no easy to clarify.
