Trac team is working hard on dumping PyGIT for their GitPlugin.
hopefully they'll get there soon enough and the performance will be adequate for wp-plugins sized repo

8:41 AM
@lkraav that didn't uqite make sense to me, could you elaborate please?

well perhaps wp hasn't embraced git at least in parallel to svn because their issue tracker would completely choke on it right now
maybe it has been a factor

I mean what about that PyGIT / GitPlugin ?..

Trac has GitPlugin to display git repos
which internally uses PyGIT, which is awful
not sure where the confusion is

so what is trac team doing with it and what for? I hadn't heard a word git is even being seriously considered so far

9:15 AM
gitplugin was just recently adopted into core
@cboos has been active with libgit2 on github

ah, I think I got it where you confused me - "trac team" as in team that develops Trac and not WP folks who run trac for WP, right?

yes

Q: How to remove a filter that is an anonymous object?

Mike JonasIn my functions.php file I would like to remove the below filter, but I'm not sure how to do it since it's in a class. What should remove_filter() look like? add_filter('comments_array',array( &$this, 'FbComments' )); It's on line 88 here.

Who voted this question down? Unbelievable.

yeah, great one
that is why I much prefer static classes as wrappers, having to deal with specific object is a mess and you don't need multiple instances of wrapper

You don’t even need a static class. $GLOBALS['my_unique_name'] = new My_Class does it already.

static is still better... just refer to it by name and no objects whatsoever

afternoon chaps

Hello guys! I need to make a site that uses carousels heavily. it needs to be updated often, actually, just one particular page needs updating often. Too lazy to code from scratch, and want to rely on a existing CMS. Should I choose wordpress?

anu
@mahesh if you like wordpress, then sure, choose wordpress.

A basic question. Just a handful of pages that remain static, plus one page that needs to be updated atleast twice a week, so will CMS be a overkill?

@Mahesh Don’t mix real static pages with dynamic pages. Your search will not work then. Use a caching plugin like W3 Total Cache for performance.

That plugin is worth a try... :)
thanks for the tip, but my question remains... will CMS be an overkill for just a single dynamic page?

anu
12:00 PM
@mahesh there is no definitive answer to that question

agreed.. Trying to answer it can start a never ending debate. I can use your opinions, though.:)

anu
OK, Yes
but many other people might say No

hmm...
And currently, i am of the impression that wordpress is a bit difficult to customize.. What do you say about that?

anu
then why do you want to use it?
again, some people find it very difficult, some people find it very easy.
whether YOU would find it hard or easy depends on you and your capabilities
Are you familiar with PHP?
Can what you need be done just with plugins?
Are you familiar with CSS?

I am familiar with PHP and CSS.
I am comparing it to drupal, which i have tinkered with a bit.

anu
12:09 PM
well if you've used drupal, do it in drupal

I'm totally new to wordpress, so that may also be a reason.
@anu And I want to use it because i love to explore and discover new things.

Create a local test installation. If you need more than one hour to get used to it, don’t use it.

anu
@mahesh, then use WP

i have a local install. To do what WP is designed for.. blogging.. I find it extremely useful and easy.
To get something totally different out of it, I find that a bit not so easy. :)
@anu and I was expecting that. :)

A: How do I customize my WordPress shortlink structure in link-template.php without a plugin?

Christopher DavisOkay, so, as mentioned in my comment to you: altering core files is not a good idea. But here is a plugin solution. First we're going to create our own rewrite rules that rewrite s/123 (replace 123 with a post ID) to index.php?short=123. We'll also have to filter the WordPress query variables ...

Does the code do two redirects? I mean from http://example.com/s/121 to http://example.com/?p=121 to the actual permalink structure?

1:30 PM
> re-releasing under a GPL compatible license kills any copyright claim...
facepalm

1:49 PM
6 points to 16k. hnnnnng

1:59 PM
@AahanKrish the second is WP's canonical redirect

oh, I was totally wrong. I have just 15,104 … need more coffee.

@StephenHarris What do you think about this? wordpress.stackexchange.com/a/57099/10691

@AahanKrish Think I prefer using WordPress' rewrites. In any case - you can add rules to .htaccess through WordPress rather than manually editing it.

@StephenHarris But isn't it an advantage that htaccess rules never break, while a plugin can?

@AahanKrish how to do you mean a plug-in can break?

2:09 PM
@StephenHarris incompatibilities with other plugins, bugs, incompatibilities with newer WP versions, etc
also a redirect handled by the webserver takes less resources, afaik

@AahanKrish if the plug-in is coded well enough it won't have bugs, and be future proof :)

.htaccess is always much faster than WordPress

Can I leave my answer as it is or delete it? wordpress.stackexchange.com/a/57099/10691

@AahanKrish leave it, it seems a perfectly good answer :)

okie! :)

2:15 PM
I have added an example with mod_alias
This works even when mod_rewrite is not available

nice, thanks!
@toscho now I canN'T upvote your answer :(

hm?

@toscho You 've missed your chances of stealing some points by including your answer in mine. :)
*I meant "Can't upvote"

I don’t care enough about rep. :)

good

2:21 PM
@AahanKrish toscho sleeps on a pile of rep

sure does

I cannot get more privileges anyway. :)

"saturation point of rep value"

So is deleting questions different from closing them?
yes to answer my own question. Just reading up on the privileges of 'trusted users' - I wasn't aware that questions could be manually deleted

I deleted more than 100 questions yesterday manually.
So we can safely say: it works. :)

2:37 PM
@toscho Deleted, closed questions?

yes, closed at least two weeks ago.
and no answers
I want to get this empty. :)
This list had more than 1000 entries once.

Don't they get automatically deleted anyway? I

Not without downvotes
And I need my daily 40 votes for better things than closed questions. :)

@toscho mmm seems odd to have closed questions just floating around the place...

exactly

2:46 PM
@toscho 3?

3 what?

How many downvotes are required for a question to be automatically deleted by the garbage collector? 3?

1 downvote, or: more downvotes than upvotes

A: Auto-deleting old, unanswered zero-score questions after a year?

Jeff AtwoodJust to formally document the exact policies we have in place to remove old abandoned / dead questions: If the question is more than 30 days old, and ... has -1 or lower score has no answers is not locked ... it will be automatically deleted. If the question is more than 365 days old, and ....

hmm

3:07 PM
#BoycottApple is exploding on G+. :)

@toscho what did they do again?

@toscho why? I mean I avoid Apple stuff because its expensive. Now apparently its a fashion...

Because people cannot buy the product they wish to buy anymore.

@toscho That does annoy me. But they're all at it.
Just some more successfully than others...

3:12 PM
I never bought an Apple product.

@toscho they seem desperate with this suing everywhere

With 100 billion in bank that's what a company would do

They are the oppsite of cool
If you manage your music with iTunes, Apple replaces all your files with cleaned versions: bad words are scratched out. Even the files you bought elsewhere. How stupid is that?
My grandma is cooler than Apple.

Wanting to deprecate a class - do you reckon the best way of handling it would be to use _deprecated_file inside the constructor method?
not file, function, obviously

3:19 PM
"if you don't see download link then you have product installed and don't need it" this is most retarded thing from microsoft in a while
this is one long sunday...

@Rarst don't need the download link, or don't need the product?

@StephenHarris link
it pained me but I had to buy Office for work :)
trying to reinstall it to get rid of stupid virtualization layer

Racism alone is a reason to stay away from Apple …

it's a pity that building a cult is better business model than simply producing good stuff
btw I've read that they failed to sue and stop sales of new Galaxy S3, it got covered on US TV and now selling like crazy :)

3:51 PM
Is there anyone who can take a look to my question? (please don't blame me It's 3 days that I'm stuck!)
http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/q/57094/10067

@maisdesign well, your code seems sound - retrieve array and loop through it?..

yes
I know it isn't perfect
it's my first journey in coloumn vs array stuff .-)
:-)

so what is your output right now and how you want to adjust it?

actually it only writes: Array
and nothing else

@maisdesign It's serialised

3:55 PM
really? this does?
// Separate our comma separated list into an array
$sesso_occupanti = explode(",", $sesso_occupanti);
//loop through our new array
foreach ($sesso_occupanti as $sesso)
{
  echo $sesso ;
}

I would like to output the value stored by the checkbox

ah, wait...

You'll need this to return it as an array: codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/maybe_unserialize

yes

what if you comment out this line $sesso_occupanti = explode(",", $sesso_occupanti); ?

3:55 PM
let's try
do you know what happens? it happened that I LOVE YOU!
now it works!
what a stupid thing it was! 3 days wasted for a copy/paste error!

@maisdesign if you are storing array then you get back array as well and don't need to explode it

as told I am a newbie, still studing :-)

try not to include so much code - code is always hard to read... sometimes a lot is needed, but in this case actual issue was only about output

ok, now I have: UomoDonna but I would like to have:
<ul><li>uomo</li><li>donna</li></ul>

do $sesso_occupanti[0] $sesso_occupanti[1] instead of foreach... this is more of basic PHP than WP
@maisdesign required reading: php.net/manual/en/language.types.array.php

4:00 PM
ok, I'll study it, promis :-)
Ok, now I have what I needed, <ul>.. and stuff
thank you very much!
if you would like to came on Holiday in Sicily (Italy) you'll have a bedroom free.

4 hours later…
7:37 PM
@toscho what are you gossiping about me on twitter about already?

@Rarst Just some made up anecdotes from your imagined youth. :P

not that small of a city... well, depending on what to compare to

@Rarst I live in a small city. I just said I am happy with that because we will never see a big football game.

ah... translate sucks

Q: Can we suggest a user to delete his/her own Question?

brasofiloQuestion in case: why are theme styles loaded in the admin? Q: Please add a notification for new accounts from an existing IP address of a suspended user

KortukThe title gets it mostly. On EE.SE we have recently given out a few suspensions and in almost every case they attempted to make a sock puppet and continue with their previous behavior. If a flag had been raised for moderators of the existence of the account we could have been watching and prepar...
