@IvoFlipse I decided to take CS253 as well...

4 hours later…
6:09 AM
but I should do some working first actually :P

@IvoFlipse hehe

@Sathya I need to do homework for my 3 Udacity courses :(
now it got into the installer :D

@IvoFlipse no slacking! chop! chop!

heej I started up Eclipse already :P

what courses, btw

6:13 AM
Design of Computer Programs (by Peter Norvig), Web Apps (by Steve Huffman) and Programming Languages

link to the 2nd?

Great @KronoS, now @Sathya is going to join us :P

no way!
so um... I have a question for HW1

go right ahead :)

hola

6:15 AM
I just downloaded appengine, and went to run and now I get this error:
>Unable to assign value 'helloUdacity' to attribute 'application':
Value 'helloUdacity' for application does not match expression '^(?:[a-z\d\-]{1,100}\~)?(?:(?!\-)[a-z\d\-\.]{1,100}:)?(?!-)[a-z\d\-]{1,100}$'
in "F:\Users\Kronos\Dropbox\Dropbox\Academics\Summer 2012\CS2

@Sathya you should be able to start the course just fine and even get a certificate, because the homework isn't really graded
getting it to run is an achievement in itself :P

@IvoFlipse sounds good, will do.. :P

@KronoS what's in your main.py?

whatever is automatically generated, except for changing "Hello World" to "Hello Udacity"

hi @StrixVaria
@KronoS clearly the wrong part :P

6:17 AM
(O_o)

that regex is probably that bottom row
where it says app = webapp2.WSGIAPplication...

 '^(?:[a-z\d\-]{1,100}\~)?(?:(?!\-)[a-z\d\-\.]{1,100}:)?(?!-)[a-z\d\-]{1,100}$'
well that's a nice regex =.=

its looking for a form, which is basically a piece of html. Which in that example is created by simply writing one word of html: Hello Udacity

here's the rest of that error: 32 (Web Application Engineering)\helloUdacity\app.yaml", line 1, column 14
2012-05-14 23:13:18 (Process exited with code 1)

ah an error in app.yaml, paste that one into pastebin or something
that's like your config file, rather important
or paste both in there

6:20 AM
hang on... I just deleted and thought to try again

hehe, that's fine too
simply use App Engine to create a new project somewhere
then open main.py
change the string, nothing else and press run

also when running locally, you may not even have libraries like webapp2 and whatnot

ya still same error

I think its the capital in your apps name
AppEngine doesn't like that capital most likely

6:22 AM
really?

'^(?:[a-z\d\-]{1,100}\~)?(?:(?!\-)[a-z\d\-\.]{1,100}:)?(?!-)[a-z\d\-]{1,100}$' <- no caps in here

Hmmmm... how weird
that worked fine

see, getting it working is a challenge in itself :)

lol ya
uh... so how do you deploy to the app engine?

create an account
press deploy in the app engine launcher

6:32 AM
I did.. and created a site and a name

fill in your credentials
pray that you don't have 2 way authentication on :P
make sure the name of your app matches that of your url (I believe)

oh dear..
I do

note that your apps in app launcher all have the same name
@Sathya so do I, just keep that page at hand to fill in the app specific passwords

@IvoFlipse ya I'm seeing that

@IvoFlipse ah k

6:33 AM
@Sathya but its annoying if you quickly want to do multiple deploys
and have copy pasted something in the mean time :P

w00t
congrats
on to week 2 :P

lol well actually on to bed. I'm getting the wisdom teeth out tomorrow

auch

so I guess I have to get a good nights rest

6:37 AM
well good luck then

thanks. depending on how drugged up I am, I'll probably get on and work on this a little more
and I need to get going on 373

@KronoS good night

@Sathya CS253 is quite interesting
and a lot more accessible than the berkeley one

253 is the webapps thing right?

@Sathya yeah

6:42 AM
I like weeks 2-5 syllabus
a little skeptical about week 6 i.e. caching and all, but given how I love reading about that, should be fun

@Sathya what do you mean skeptical?

@IvoFlipse as in not sure how much you can learn from that

@Sathya its a bit premature probably, though you can also cache database results and other stuff, which will prevent you from doing duplicate work
its not necessarily meant to deal with traffic
I have to write a decorator function that caches results for my current hw assignment

ah nice

you'll like CS212 too
if only to watch the video's
Peter Norvig makes code look like poetry

6:49 AM
nice
@IvoFlipse you know about this right? se-suggested-edits.heroku.com

I had seen it
that should be pretty easy to make

yep

especially after this current week, which is about APIs

I have so/sf/su toggles for that too

lol we both made the same edit on that newest one

6:53 AM
:D

btw diablo is installed
and I haven't even had breakfast yet

go, go go
you have <5 minutes

down for maintenance :P
