@ClarkKent Darn.

user19161
@Mahnax Work later?

@ClarkKent No, yay!
@ClarkKent To cool down.

user19161
@Mahnax I know, but what happened?

@ClarkKent He was getting too hot, it would seem.
I looked through his activity and found nothing bad, so it was probably removed.
Comments of a rude nature, most likely.
But one can't be certain.

user19161
@Mahnax If it was because of his answers, they are not much worse than say Kris's. But that is just my humble opinion.

12:07 AM
@ClarkKent He has actually contributed some great answers.

user19161
@Mahnax Exactly, I think he is eager to learn and progress.

@ClarkKent Unfortunately, he is rude, and has a bad attitude sometimes. He is rather condescending, and as such, I do not like him.

user19161
@Mahnax I just finished giving out presents to a user on Site X and then another on Site Y, hehe.

@ClarkKent Shh!

user19161
@Mahnax Maybe I will tell you about it if I meet you in future!

12:12 AM
@ClarkKent Maybe.
I have my doubts, though.
Singapore is far away.

user19161
@Mahnax This reminds me that Carlo said he would offer me dinner if I went to Italy.

@ClarkKent I would offer you dinner if you came here, but my parents would not approve at this age.

user19161
@Mahnax And maybe I might not be alive when you come, hehe.

@ClarkKent Hey, don't say that.

user19161
@Mahnax I am drinking some coffee now. You?

12:15 AM
Have a happy puppy album to cheer yourself up.
@ClarkKent I'm not drinking anything at the moment.

user19161
@Mahnax Good. Don't waste your money. Just save up for university to get lots and lots of books, hehe.

user19161
Seriously I think math textbooks are terribly expensive.

@ClarkKent Ah yes, books.
@ClarkKent All textbooks are expensive.

user19161
But there is often a cheaper international or paperback edition, though maybe not in your country.

Hm, I have not seen any.
Textbooks can be hundreds of dollars here.

user19161
12:17 AM
But I can tell you that amazon has about the best prices when it comes to textbooks that are not "international editions".

user19161
At least it is so for the US amazon.

@ClarkKent I got two great French books from there.

user19161
@Mahnax Yes, I know your mum got them.

user19161
So for normal editions, I look at amazon.com. For international editions, I look at abebooks.com.

Hm, OK.
I should study, good day to you!

12:55 AM
That studying was blegh, so I got a Russian e-mail account.

1:21 AM
Good evening friends

Good evening, Mr. Shiny.

Holla.

I cannot believe how fickle this site is for reputation. A shitty not-too-good question comes along, and I post a glib answer, and I get 18 upvotes for it. But I have many better, more interesting answers on worthier questions, and I get diddly.
This is exactly like the time that Peter Jackson won the Oscar for "Return of the King" when that was the worst of the three films, and he should have won it for "Fellowship of the Ring".

Totally. Just like that.

It's the gosh-darned MultiCollider™.

1:32 AM
well, at least it's colliding in my favour. The collider is colluding with me.

Hmm. I like collusions.
I don't care for colloids though.

Ugh, colloids.
Colloids and suspensions, which is which? Nobody knows.
I'm pretty sure colloids are the ones that can't be separated.

Colloids are subsets of suspensions, I thought?

Reminds me of the old saying

Fat globs.

1:33 AM
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

That's awful.
Awful funny!

@MrShinyandNew安宇 One of the Chem teachers at my school has that written on his door.

so how is your evening, Kit? kids in bed?

He also has the ten commandments of chemistry.
> Remember mole day, and keep it moley.

Yes. I have a sore throat and I am working on the Chart From Hell™.
How do you do the TM?

1:35 AM
@Mahnax I think, to be a chemistry teacher in high school requires that you subscribe to the chemistry-humour-newsletter.
the TM?

Trademark superscript.

@KitFox ™ <- that?
Oh.
I press alt+2.

@Mahnax Yes.

Alt-2 switches me to the 2nd tab in FF

alt+0153 for you Windows users.

1:36 AM

oooooh right you have a mac

I see.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Yep.

shucks I'm on Linux right now, no alt-blah blah magic for me

It's telling that the trademark superscript is Alt+2 on a Mac, don't you think?

1:37 AM
So that people can write "Sent from my iMac™" in their messages

@MrShinyandNew安宇 I hate that.
My new Russian e-mail does that.

what, the advertising in messages now? yeah, it's annoying
My android phone was configured to do that out of the box.... at least, some of the programs on it were. I turned that shite off.

I sign mine "Sent from my Anus™."

did I mention that I love my android phone? and my android tablet? I like having them near me, even if I'm not using them.

@KitFox Charming.

1:38 AM
When people complain, I claim it just does that and I don't know how to get rid of it.
I get a lot of sceptical looks.

Oh, I'm also drinking sparkling red grape drink from the bottle.
chugs

but do you get septical looks?

But noöne has called me out on it yet.

(to me, the word "septic" should be spelled "sceptic" and the word "sceptic" should always be spelled "skeptic")
sceptic, like sceptre.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Sepulchral looks, yes. Septical, no.
That's not right. Damn it.

1:40 AM
damn the sepulchre?

Sepulchre seplucher seplutura
frigga
That still doesn't look right.
Whatever. Chart From Hell™ beckons.

does it have an adjectival form like that?

Yes.

Look over there! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's... Jasper.

1:43 AM
dun dun-dun-dun dunnnn DUN Dun dun! dun dun-dun-dun dunnnn, DA Da-DA!

user19161
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Hey, that looks like me!

didn't you hear me singing your theme song?

user19161
I was trying to figure out from the lyrics.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 I've played too much Lego Star Wars. That just won't turn into the Superman theme.

Hey, I've got exactly 5.9×10³ reps on EL&U now.
Just 10 more upvotes until I reach a nice, even 6k.

user19161
1:52 AM
I just gave out 3+3+2 presents to three people. Shh...

I had my suspicions, but you really shouldn't say such things.

user19161
@Mahnax Why the sudden use of scientific notation?

@ClarkKent I happen to be doing Physics.
Which, in IB for sure, and probably regular stream as well, requires proper scientific notation.

user19161
@Mahnax I guess you use it quite a lot in chemistry too. Oh and usually I don't capitalise subject names. At least that is what reading style guides tells me.

@ClarkKent Whatever floats ya boat, man.

2:02 AM
slew of expletives

@KitFox hands cup of tea, takes chart away and attempts to finish it

user19161
@KitFox Why the sudden cursing?

Here, you can have this easy Physics and I'll take the chart.

Oh no! I can't do physics!

It's easy stuff right now.
Wavelengths and such.

2:05 AM
Oh. I kind of remember harmonics.

All you need are two formulae: 1/T = 𝑓, and λ = v/𝑓.

I liked physics in high school. I even remember a bit of it.
but I must be off. bye everyone!

I love my Physics. But it is so boring sometimes, particularly when doing things like this.
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Bye!

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Bye!

user19161
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Bye!

Q: What's the difference between these terms: old-fashioned, out of fashion,unfashionable and outdated?

atseaWhat's the difference between these terms: old-fashioned, out of fashion,unfashionable and outdated? She wears old-fashioned clothes. She wears unfashionable clothes. She wears outdated clothes. The clothes she wears are out of fashion. Thanks.

What, no passé? No "that is so 27 seconds ago"?

user19161
@Mahnax Why bye twice? To make four instead of three consecutive byes?

Like, ugh. Gag me with a spoon.
@ClarkKent My methods are and will be the way they are.

user19161
@Mahnax Very deep.

@ClarkKent No, it's as shallow as saying "the sky is blue".

user19161
2:15 AM
@Mahnax Shallow is deep. When the sea is shallow, the sky is deep. When the sea is deep, the sky is shallow.

@ClarkKent When Jasper is deep, he is shallow, and when he is shallow, he is deep. QED.

user19161
@Mahnax That's just crap. QED.

@ClarkKent You're just crap, oh snap. I rhyme, but not lime, QED.
No offence, but I had to. It rhymed.

user19161
@Mahnax Do you find lime juice bitter sometimes? I think it is sour and bitter at the same time.

user19161
I think that's called astringent or something.

2:19 AM
@ClarkKent Hm, I find it sour, but not bitter.

Good night, boys!

Night!

So Jasper's advice comes for free
He'll suit you with it to a T.
It's always the season
For finding a reason
To end posts like this: QED.

5:15 AM
Hi guys!
Here's my order of the day: Suppose if someone would say "Do you cook yourself?" Would it mean as if he is asking that "I cook myself?".

It could mean "are you the person who cooks?", or "do you cook your own body?".
You will have to rely on context to determine which meaning is intended.
If the accent is on cook, that means that this word has focus: it contains the salient information.
Example: "I like to take a hot bath, of around 50 °C." — "What, are you crazy? Do you cook yourself?"
Example two: "The servants are all sick, so I will cook something for myself." — "What, do you cook yourself? How plebeian."
In the second example, focus is on yourself, because the asker already knew that someone cooked: he just wanted to know who it was that cooked.

5:40 AM
Hello.

Evening.
Although I suppose this counts as night.

Yeah, I guess.

@Meysamرهادربند Good evening!

@Mahnax Evening!

5:43 AM
Morn!
So when will your trip to Europe be? In a bit over a year? Or two years?

I decided on a reason not to use Chrome or Firefox as my main browser.

I always forget when high school ends.
Oh?

@Cerberus In two years.

Ah OK.

@Cerberus Their full-screen modes are too jerky.

5:44 AM
Could you please rephrase this sentence to make it better? "Notifying system's admin by voice or light alarms"

It just struck me that it must be hard to be saving for something so far into the future.
@Meysamرهادربند That's not a sentence, it is a fragment.

That may seem small, but my browser is always in full screen, and I want it to look and feel right.

Hmm and Safari's is better?

Oh yes.

@Cerberus I am in habit of calling any sequence of words in English a sentence :D

5:45 AM
So what is it that feels jerky?
@Meysamرهادربند Oh, dear! pretends not to hear

@Cerberus Is it possible to make that fragment sound better?

In full screen in Chrome, the page content, by default, fills the entire screen, and then when you hover over an area near the top, the bar comes down quite quickly.
It looks jerky.
Same thing with FF.

@Meysamرهادربند It is very hard to say anything about text without context. But for starters I would say system administrator.

@Cerberus Thanks :)

@Mahnax And what happens in S?

5:49 AM
@Mahnax FF is becoming slower by every version!

@Cerberus A small bar stays at the top and slides smoothly when hovered over.

In my experience, it has got faster since v. 7 or 9 or so.
@Meysamرهادربند Always test it in an empty profile if you want to get a good impression of speed. 99 % of the time it is the add-ons that determine speed.
@Mahnax But that means that you have to wait longer.

@Cerberus I don't mind, and it looks better.

All right.

Yep.

5:53 AM
I prefer functionality over anything.
Speed comes second.

Well, yeah. I'm going to bed soon, I think.
In 20 minutes or so, as usual.

That makes quarter past 1?

No, quarter past 12.

Ohh.

Yeah, it takes me 15 minutes or less to fall asleep.

5:59 AM
jealous

Heh.

I read that 14 minutes is average.

Sounds accurate enough.

Night!

Night
@Mahnax Try not to fall asleep just the moment it is going to happen
If you are lucky enough, and after some trial and error, you will have a lucid dream

6:14 AM
@Meysamرهادربند What?
Oh, that.
Well, I'm off to bed for real now.
Night all!

Bye!

@Mahnax Lucid dream. It's sort of dream that you are dreaming, but you are aware of that. You are asleep, but you are awake

2 hours later…
8:04 AM
lol
The ORC is has just appeared. Deleting the old avatar worked

8:20 AM
Whis avatar is unnatural?

I'm all natural
I'm tempted to vote NARQ

@MattЭллен Then what are those muscles there?

There's a valid question in there. But the fluff needs thrown away.

How about the first two words and the last two?
And what is ORC?
I have just found out a very easy way of measuring how long things take on my computer, in a very accurate way.
Like 0,4587792 ms.
It uses a combo of AHK and native DLL calls (well, AHK does the DLL calls).

There. Edited it into something edible.

8:29 AM
Whis?

@RegDwightΒВBẞ8 Huh...
What is that about?
I see a question. I have read it.
Oh, I get it.
How did you and Matt know you were talking about this question, btw?

Um, what?
We knew it because of the "whis"?
Someone needs coffee!

You knew Matt had seen that question?

Whis isn't a word in English. — Matt Эллен 20 mins ago
And now you can know it, too!

8:39 AM
If I need coffee, then my life sucks, because I don't drink it.

Haha.
@RegDwightΒВBẞ8 Ahh OK, this was the missing bit of info, thanks.

I came in here 54 seconds after Matt had posted the comment.
Yo @Matt I still don't get the creepy gravatar part. What's with the creepy gravatar part? I don't get it.
Who are the ORC and why is has they appeared?

Funneh.

I was just shouting Orc. My avatar is an Orc.
An orc () is one of a race of mythical human-like creatures, generally described as fierce and combative, with grotesque features and often black, grey or greenish skin. This mythology has its origins in the writings of J. R. R. Tolkien. These creatures have since become popular figures in other fantasy and science fiction literature as well as many types of fantasy games. They are variously portrayed as physically stronger or weaker than humans, but always high in numbers. They often ride boars, wolves and wargs. In many role-playing and computer games, orcs have green or ...
but less JRR, more War Hammer

8:54 AM
OIC
I don't like the looks of that one.

Orcs are one of the races in Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy universe, and are related to goblins. The brutish orcs, though less intelligent, tend to dominate the meeker goblins. In Warhammer Fantasy Battle, rules for using orcs are covered in the book Warhammer Armies: Orcs & Goblins. Orcs in Warhammer are not very intelligent or knowledgeable but are capable of cunning. In combat they can transform even the most common object into a lethal killing instrument. They are extremely warlike, with a society geared towards constant warfare, living in small tribal groups with a strong chain...
@Cerberus I work hard to get this physique!

Nice work.
I wonder what % of people go to gyms.

I am in the % that don't :D
I think my parents do
I don't think my brother does
so, 50%!

9:09 AM
hi every one ..is my first time to enter into chat ..pls every one welcome me and wish be good luck

Welcome, and good luck.

thank you..and can i ask any type of question here regarding english?

You can. But we must insist that you spell the word "English" correctly. :P

ha ha thanks a lot ..
and sure I will

@MattЭллен Your parents, really? That is funny.

9:14 AM
They like to keep in shape :D

Hello User!
I wish my parents did that.

Hi Cerberus

@Cerberus Why so?

My father cycles to work, but it isn't helping.

Hi User!

9:15 AM
Well, let's say they could lose a couple of pounds.

Hi Matt

@Cerberus I cycle to work. It helps me.

I usually just eat (way) more when I exercise.

I suppose he's no hills to traverse

Not really, no. You have?

9:17 AM
I go over one that I estimate has a 10% gradient

(I always try to use have as an auxiliary/modal verb, but it often looks odd.)

(That looked OK to me)

10 % is quite a lot. They put warning signs up for cars and all.

Well, then maybe it's not that steep. there aren't any signs
It feels like it goes up 10m over 100m
maybe it's longer than 100m
@Cerberus I've been eating more since I've been cycling to work everyday. But not loads more.

@MattЭллен Perhaps they don't put up signs for 10 % here. Remember, we are elevation sissies.
The highest things we have are dikes.
@MattЭллен I guess you are a moderate person!

9:23 AM
I'm moderate a moderate amount

That is immoderately moderate.

I need to immediately moderate my immoderate moderation

What a moderate idea!
I am moderately baffled.

Hmm. I think my weekly food costs have gone up from £25 - £30 to £35 - £40 since I've been cycling
I'm not sure how much of that is due to the recession

9:46 AM
Oh that's funny.
How do you measure that?
And why does the recession make them go up?
I spend an average of € 150 a month on "groceries", which includes everything I buy at supermarkets and other similar shops.
So also garbage bags and toothpaste, which I buy at the supermarket.
So € 5 a day, € 35 a week.

@Cerberus just by how much I used to spend vs what I spend currently
@Cerberus inflation
food costs more to produce because a whole bunch of things have got more expensive, not least of which is petrol

@MattЭллен How do you measure how much you spend?

@Cerberus it's at the bottom of the receipt :D

You add up all receipts every week?
So that includes non-food too, like my number?

I have 1 receipt.
but yeah, it would include non-food. I rarely buy non-food

9:52 AM
Good morning.

non-food gets bought in bulk

@MattЭллен Really? How high is inflation now?

good morning, @Robusto :)

@MattЭллен Just 1 receipt?

@Cerberus I don't know. I haven't been looking :(
@Cerberus pretty much. I mean I have a fast food treat on the weekend, but that price has stayed the same

9:54 AM
I am asking because I usually come up with a much lower number if I try to roughly calculate this myself.

I get all my food from one supermarket

Did you know the word receipt used to mean recipe in America?

Your inflation is higher than ours, but it's still quite low. But of course it could be that foodprices have risen much faster. In fact, it is quite possible, since houses have become much cheaper, probably.

@Robusto interesting.
@Cerberus yeah, my parents recently sold their house and had to accept a price much lower than they were expecting

9:58 AM
@MattЭллен How much less in percentage?

Yeah, that sucks.

@Robusto I'm not sure, maybe 10%
maybe more

So the average price increase for non-houses must be significantly higher.

Was there a subprime slaughter in England like there was in America?

Though it could be that it is mostly energy costs that have risen.

9:59 AM
@Robusto Yeah. it was pretty bad
