4:00 PM
Quite literally

@KevinvanderVelden I WAS WAITING FOR YOU, SINCE I COULD NOT KNOW IF YOU WEREN'T BLOWN OUT OF SAID COUNTRY.

@Yuuki font-style: normal

Though I was also that a few weeks ago with indoor skydiving

@KevinvanderVelden I should give that a try some time.

It's fun!

4:01 PM
Although isn't it like $300 for 7 minutes?

I doubt it, it was a company trip =p

Ugh, I have a Game of Thrones pun but it's spoilerrific.

3 skydives (1 minute each) + instructions and everything is 65 euros
It's far less if you've got a certificate that you have experience and don't need instructions and things
@Yuuki also it's a pun

@ToxicFrog Once you have ligatures in your programming font, you never go back

It's really quite nice
Now I want a terminal emulator that supports them >:(

4:18 PM
Then build one, lazy

@KevinvanderVelden Konsole and Yakuake do

Part of me wants to install one now
Hmm
a font that is

@ToxicFrog also I'm on windows :(
I'm using mintty to preserve my sanity

@fredley it's super nice. I looked at Fira Code but didn't like the rest of the font, so I modified Ligaturizer to support all the Fira Code ligatures (and the ligature inhibition for long runs of identical characters) and multiple font weights, then used that to copy all the Fira Code ligatures into Cousine.
@KevinvanderVelden oh :(
Yean, mintty and rxvt don't support ligatures.
Comedy option: run KDE on windows?

Heh, sadly work

4:22 PM
(ligatures are confirmed to work in MSVS, which is neat)

Meh I'll probably try it on my personal environment so I don't have to figure out how to do it in Visual Studio (since doing it in Visual Studio Code looks super easy)

@ToxicFrog Nice. I'm just using Fira Code like a pleb, I'm just used to it now.

@ToxicFrog yeah, I use fira code in it

innit

@fredley yeah, that's what I started out doing, but quickly decided I didn't like Fira Code (or Hasklig) nearly as much as Cousine.

4:25 PM

So then I found Ligaturizer, but it didn't support most of the ligatures, or bold face, or ligature inhibition.
So then things kind of escalated from there.

Game Industry: People are turning on lootboxes, what do we do? Nintendo: Let's play with the boxes.

@Unionhawk Literally just add two settings.

@fredley 3british5me

And maybe download the font files and install them, which is just extracting a folder, select all, right-click, install.

4:26 PM
I've now mostly rewritten Ligaturizer, but the original author didn't bother to put a license on it >.<

@Yuuki Fine then my next excuse is I don't want to risk Infosec calling me even though they didn't when I installed Node outside their pipeline

@ToxicFrog 😩
@ToxicFrog pester them to licence it?

@Unionhawk As the Feds I am now forced to report you for Computer Crimes

@fredley yeah, I did
We'll see if they respond

@Maximillian If you sell the box, you're always outside of it.

4:28 PM
In the meantime it does look like I can distribute the generated fonts, since Cousine is Apache2 and Fira is OFL

@TimStone I literally got a call from them for stupid bullshit a couple years ago and I don't remember what, maybe "plugged a USB device in without thinking"

@Unionhawk I mean, that's how you do it in VS Code.
Have no clue about Visual Studio, haven't messed with that in a long time.

@Yuuki Oh, I'm talking about Visual Studio Regular, yeah
Though it sounds like it Just Works maybe

So if anyone wants to try ligaturized cousine, it's at funkyhorror.ancilla.ca/toxicfrog/fonts/

@Unionhawk The Feds incidentally recently deployed DLP software to laptops

4:31 PM
'ligaturized cousine'. That's a big word.

(and all attempted uses of non-authorized USB devices create a ticket in ServiceNow, or something)

@TimStone Sounds like an attack surface to me

All attempted uses of any USB storage devices at all immediately set off alarms or some shit

@RFC abbreviate "ligaturization" to "l12n"

And you get a phone call and a strong information security response
That's how they caught one of the red teamers who came in last year

4:33 PM
@Maximillian the font itself is called "couslig" because I am bad at naming things.
Possibly "Firasine" would have been better.

@ToxicFrog Oh good, == looks different from ===.

@Yuuki yarp

@Yuuki yeah, I don't like Fira Code in general but the ligatures specifically are really nice
And they're all fixedwidth-correct too.

As in === becomes one three-wide character or as in it becomes one-wide

@Unionhawk the former

4:35 PM
nice

Real question: How is having ligatures actually an improvement while coding?

Each ligature takes up the same amount of space as the individual letters making it up.

Since the language syntax requires != for example, seeing something other than != as a literal would be weird even though it is != technically.

@StrixVaria it makes the code look prettier, without actually affecting the content of the file on disk (which, e.g., replacing -> with UNICODE RIGHT ARROW would)

@ToxicFrog Right, I get what it's doing on a technical level, but I don't understand why you'd want that.

4:37 PM
it looks nicer, some people find it legitimately easier/faster to read

@StrixVaria Fake answer: it makes all of your coworkers go "how'd you do that" and so you're doing work while they're looking at your screen and therefore you do more work than they do and so you look more impressive at end-of-year review.

@ToxicFrog I mean, I don't care what makes other people productive, but I think seeing something different from what I would have to type to reproduce that code would just be confusing.

shrugs
I like it.

Ok :)

Ave
@KevinvanderVelden terminator supports it but I can't disable it and it drives me crazy

4:41 PM
Ave: I mean, you can "disable" it by using an equivalent non-ligaturized font, neh?

@ToxicFrog I hate this type of abbreviation but mostly because "internationalization" is one of the most fun words to type.

Ave
@ToxicFrog I guess I can compile iosevka
without ligatures

@Ave woooow that looks bad
Even if you're using a ligaturized font that does not look like it's doing the right thing

Ave
I'll try and install konsole and urxvt when I finish jdk update and see if it's any better

nods
I'm not sure whether to blame the font there or the terminal. I am making the possibly unwarranted assumption that no typographer would do that intentionally.

4:45 PM
What if they're on a lot of drugs though?

Ave
specifically, from left to right, xfce-terminal, urxvt, terminator and gnome-terminal

5:04 PM
You know, in hindsight, the Mario Cereal amiibo really should've clued us in to how much Nintendo likes distributing content using cardboard boxes.

@Ave weiiiiird. What font is that?

Ave

@Ave ok, so that is ligaturized...I know that at least some of those terminal emulators don't support ligatures, but maybe they half-assedly support them
Like, the CALT substitution for = intended for => is getting triggered whenever there's non-whitespace next to the = or something.

Ave
5:19 PM
well, I'm compiling alacritty now

Q: Is Damage taken impacted by durability of a piece of armor?

Zero StackI have seen this question and this spreadsheet, but I am looking for clarification. I want to know if a heavily damaged, higher level piece of armor will offer more protection than a lower level piece of armor with no damage to it. Example: If I have a level 3 helmet with 1 durability (heav...

5:35 PM
@GodEmperorDune It's the last part of The Second Dream quest where you have to do the carrying thing (trying not to spoil) - I couldn't figure out how to do what it wanted and walk, because the onscreen instruction was for mouse, no gamepad buttons seemed to do it

Uugh, that bit is annoying to control even with KB+M =p

@Ash it might be a while before i catch up to that but i will figure it out once i get there

user15026
@KevinvanderVelden Yes, yes it is, I got stuck and couldn't get not-stuck so I had to give up and it had taken me SO LONG

user15026
@GodEmperorDune No worries, I suspect tonight I am just going to try again with a fresh me and see if I can summon all my calm to do it

user15026
I don't think I can die, so I think if I just go through it very, very slowly

Q: What does linking my Xbox live account to my EpicGames account do?

ChildishforlifeI recently started playing Fortnite on the PC and XBox one. I have 2 separate accounts for the games, but bought the battle pass for the Xbox one. The PC and XBox one accounts use different email addresses. When I log into my PC account, I have an option to "Link XBox account". When I try to lin...

@John nice starbait

Ave
alacritty seems to work fine, I'll stick with it

Food time!
What to food, hmmm...

5:56 PM
You shouldn't food sushi

Not in this weather, no. It’s too cold.
Too cold for Houston, that is.
I guess I haven’t had pho in a while.

@Ash Oooooh. That one? You found the pod thingy?

@Yuuki just in general
Oh, another fieldron offensive

I really need to start farming mutagen samples.
Masses are easy enough to get. Samples require way more work than detonite and fieldron samples.

@Maximillian where do they drop?
also i made too many formas and now i need more neural sensors

6:10 PM
Orokin Derelict and Eris.
Neural Sensors? Do Alad V runs on Jupiter.

yeah imma do that after finishing simaris

user15026
@Maximillian Yes

Mutagen samples are rare on eris, uncommon on orokin derelict. Thing is, you can't get pub groups on derelict. :(

dear warframe, why is it easier to collect/deploy extractors in your mobile app than in the full game?
@Maximillian thats the one where you have to build nav keys to get there?

user15026
I wanted to enjoy the story aspect of it but it was super frustrating. Hoping I can try tonight and go through it very slowly and calmly now that I know what to expect

6:14 PM
@Ash You're going through one of the prettiest parts of the game with very vivid music, once you touch the pod, get the thing and get out. If you find it difficult once you get back to your ship, my advice is focus on getting to 'the thing' over the other obstacle. Vague now, will make sense later.
Well, about to go through.
@GodEmperorDune Yes. Keys to get in, but good rewards in there.

Also a chance at orokin vaults on the derelict which let you find corrupted mods.

oooh i need to farm corrupted vor for a mod i want

Corrupted mods up one aspect of your powers and decrease another.

i suspect i'm far away from that tho

6:16 PM
Eventually everyone has to go there, as killing Lephantis is a gate requirement around.... Pluto, I think
Your first time fighting Lephantis is not fun
The game doesn't prepare you for gimmick boss fights

user15026
@Maximillian yeah, it was just doing the carrying of the thing and walking using KBM that was hard. I know what you mean, so I know how to go about it I think

Yeah that part can be a little nerve wracking. The story reasoning is your warframe is very weak during that segment.
But the good news is you're about to have a long segment of self-paced puzzle solving.
I liked it because when I needed to take a break, I could stand on a clear safe spot and think about it. There will be very few foes there.
It's a spot of the game the developers are super proud of and put a lot of polish into how it's presented.
By the way, if warframe players are wondering what's possible from the daily login rewards, there's a list here: warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Daily_Tribute
Generally you shouldn't be buying platinum without a coupon. Best deal honestly.
Unless the odds are against you, you're very likely to at least see one coupon within a two week span.

user15026
@Maximillian nods I think just attempting it at like midnight last night and unexpectedly getting to have to do KBM for sections just overwhelmed me

Best of luck, that's a part the game makes you do alone, no matter what.

@Maximillian daaaaaaaaang, primed shred
and primed fury is awesome too

6:26 PM
Primed mods are great in general (Exception: nothing makes archwing good)

user15026
@Maximillian Yep, that I discovered

user15026
Also Orthos Prime is amazing, thank you

Oh did you get it built?
I figured the wide sweep and allowance for multi-target hits would be your thing

@Ash oh nice you got the prime
orthos is super fun, i'm farming the prime for it too

I went farming for parts, got the orthos prime parts, and realized I had one from a few years ago.

user15026
6:28 PM
@Maximillian It's amazing and fun and I feel like a super magic ninja when I use it

user15026
(also it looks awesome in my pink/yellow/blue colour scheme)

lesion feels like orthos as well, could be that they are both polearms and i use the same stance with them

Orthos gets just plain silly with a reach mod (or primed reach)

6:41 PM
Oooh new augments soon-ish

ughhhhhhkljhklsjdh

I need to clone more Kavats till I get a Smeeta Kavat
Should get to build Nekros Prime soon.

user15026
I think once I get Rhino fully leveled I might work on Valkyr Prime for my next frame maybe

We've got the research for it in the clan

user15026
Excellent :D

user15026
6:45 PM
I should really remember to check there more often

checks Yeah I'm currently building regular valkyr

user15026
Also, I've probably asked this before, so apologies (my memory is terrible) - anyone have any good recs for something to replace the Lato?

Also we don't have the research for prime (because there's no such thing)

user15026
@KevinvanderVelden Makes sense

user15026
I just keep forgetting in general to check clan stuff :P

6:47 PM
Lato.. So needing a good secondary? Do you prefer rapid fire weapons or single shot high damage weapons?

Aklato if you just want more of the same :D

Yeah, keep the lato around to build Aklato, it's treated as a separate weapon. Grind that one to level 30 like all the others for those sweet mastery points.

user15026
@Maximillian I prefer things where I can hold buttons down (so rapid fire)

If you want high damage pistol, try a Lex or a Magnus. If you want rapid fire, maybe a Stiletto or a Furis.

user15026
The repeated button pressing is super hard on my hands :(

6:49 PM
Unfortunately, that's an expected part of the game for some techniques.

Though if you don't want to do super top tier it doesn't really matter =p

user15026
@KevinvanderVelden That's reassuring :)

The Furis worked alright for me. Really needs a Pistol Gambit mod to do any serious shooty work and ammo management is a thing.
Oh yeah, short of level 50~60 enemy quests, most guns will do the job.

Sonicor is also fun, it's not full auto but it only has a clip size of 15 anyway

user15026
I have no plans for that really, I just like chilling and being a murdery space ninja with my husband and whoever else

6:51 PM
It's more a "Push button, everything ragdolls for a few seconds"

My goal is to finish unlocking the solar system and do the remaining quests Ordis and Lotus keep telling me I have.

I should probably make some ciphers because the hacking is starting to get annoying.
That last mastery test was dumb.

user15026
@Yuuki I highly recommend them. They make life so much easier

Any of them where it's a full grid of security fiddly bits, cipher.
If it's just 3 or 5 fiddly parts, I can usually handle it.

Grineer ones are annoying, corpus I don't think I've ever failed?

7:04 PM
Grineer is the one with a rotating pin and you have to push down all the nodes?
And Corpus is the connect-the-lines puzzle?

Yes to both

Grineer is the spinny cursor, corpus are the hex tiles.

I haven't failed any but I have yet to figure out how to solve a Corpus puzzle without INTRUSION DETECTED.

Grineer ones suck on raids or sorties (a quest type you get after War Within). If you unpin 3 seconds after pinning them, that's also a fail.

user15026
@KevinvanderVelden I'm your opposite

7:05 PM
Corpus puzzles must have connecting lines.

@Yuuki basically irrelevant as far as I can tell?
> After having rotated half the tiles on Corpus consoles, the 'INTRUSION DETECTED' alert will appear. Currently it is almost impossible to solve the Hacker Challenge without it (the use of ciphers will prevent the 'INTRUSION DETECTED' alert from appearing). This effect will make time go twice as fast.
Oh time goes faster

Yeah, when it beeps at you during solving.
Key to corpus ones is to solve the outer ring before spinning the cente.r

Yup
Generally half the outer ring only has one option anyway

@Maximillian Huh. I find it easier to spin the center one since it has spokes to the outer hexes.

Yeah but the center one is basically irrelevant most of the time

7:09 PM
My son put this name on something once and now he gets a lot of mail here.

If the outer ring lines up you just spin the center till it clicks

My strategy: Connect all the outside bits up together (ones with 3 pins only have one way they can be pointed) and then ^

Grineer ones where the cursor changes direction on click can be figured out with a timing pattern. Takes practice.

Yeah, they're annoying

@Maximillian Those are annoying because I try to get all of the nodes in one pass and there's no clue to whether the cursor will change direction or not.

7:12 PM
@Yuuki it's level based I think, 30+ is it changes?

Yep. Higher the level, harder it is.

About the Nintendo Labo piano:
> There are even tiny cardboard knobs, separate from the slider, that you can slot into to completely alter what sounds come out. One turns the on-screen keys into a choir of cute meowing cats.
cc @Ash

user15026
7:32 PM
@Yuuki eeeeee yes good

user15026
I need me a Switch. For kitties.

And presumably maybe also for games?

goddammit
passed the mastery test in practice then failed the qualifying
ugh
stupid platforming

Disappearing platforms one?

it's one IRL day not a utc day?! shit
nah the bullet jumps one
shoot target, jump to platform

7:43 PM
12 was a pain for me, it's a run and gun with bullet jumps

i always overshoot

target, jump, two targets, jump, target, large vertical jump, elevator, six targets, maze, 4 targets.

although TIL you can bullet jump up

Yeah I learned that for Rhino. if you bullet jump up and double jump, your impact-landing will be set off. Useful for stunning a horde.

Also with the impact-landing mod

user15026
7:53 PM
I have a feeling I am going to hit a point where MR tests are nigh impossible for me :(

user15026
Yikes, MR 6 is going to be tricky :(

You could just kick your husband to do them for you =p

My local IT admin (who is not whom I complain about when cursing IT) just told me the server that my SVN repo is on may die soon. 🤔

They are thematically very fitting but it's not like they have much gameplay value

user15026
That's likely what will happen if I struggle too much

7:55 PM
dammit, Win7, and your lack of emoji support

And practicing is free (doing them is as well ubt time limited)

You practice down at Cephalon Simaris right? That annoys me because on completion you're put back at the start of the station. You can fast travel back though.

user15026
2 messages moved from This Is Fine

So apparently on Master Mode BOTW guardians can slightly alter the shot pattern such that if you go by the normal parry timing you will miss it? Which lol

@MBraedley shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame

8:01 PM
@KevinvanderVelden I said I felt it, you don't have to rub it in

This is the bridge, I'm fairly sure I'm contractually obligated to do so

I have reviewed the contract and that is indeed the case

It is all written in crayon by @badp so it's hard to read sometimes but still, that bit is pretty clear

Wait you don't have a transcribed version?
The Court made us type it up in 2013

8:27 PM
Must have gotten lost in the mail, damned pneumatic lazer tubes. Always incinerating important mail
I like the fact that this alert got 3,000 nanospores from the alert. And 19k from the mission itself

Ave
In my life I did many dumb stuff
But the dumbest has to be getting two ears pierced at once as someone who can only sleep sideways

user15026
@Ave :(

I think the dumbest thing I did was upgrade to Vista at launch, because it was free for me as a student.
Right during the migration from 32 to 64bit processors.
Ewww.. Mastery Rank 15 test is doing an interception mission alone.
16 is one-man defense.
