@KeshavSrinivasan haha lol.. 'benefits of getting insulted'...
@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok.. Thanks for sending it...

1:27 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan also it prescribes to wander in masses like lunatics...

1:42 AM
@Tezz Haha yeah, a lot of it is similar to Vamachari practices.

@KeshavSrinivasan btw I think Shiva also does these types of lunatic behaviours... like going nude in Daruka vana and making wifes of Rishi follow him and getting cursed... etc.. etc...
@KeshavSrinivasan but Vamacharas are those who focus on Pancha Makaras.. but here in case of Pasupatas they are told just to pretend...

@Tezz Yeah, a lot of Vamachari practices imitate practices of Shiva. Like Aghoris dwell in cremation grounds to imitate Shiva, Kapalikas drink out of human skulls to imitate Kalabhairava, etc.

@KeshavSrinivasan maybe there are also some who try to hold poison in throat... 😀😀

@Tezz Haha

@KeshavSrinivasan btw there are Hatha yogic practices where you have to drink water or take food and try to hold it in throat....

1:51 AM
@Tezz Oh ok, some Hatha Yoga practices are weird, like in Khechari Mudra you cut off the frenulum of the tongue.

@KeshavSrinivasan it isn't compulsory to cut... but cutting makes it easier.. also it is cut very slowly day after day after the wound heals...

@Tezz Well, Adinatha's Khechari Vidya doesn't say it's optional, and I think it says just do it at once, not little by little.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh I had read one book a year back and it told to cut slowly under instruction of Guru... it also gave instructions like applying some ayurvedic remedies in wound...
@KeshavSrinivasan btw there is another Hatha Yoga exercise called Dhauti where one has to chew a piece if cloth and pass it towards intestine...

@Tezz Haha

@KeshavSrinivasan see here for how to do it.. yogicwayoflife.com/…

2:07 AM
@Tezz By the way, I just checked the Khechari Vidya again. You're right, it is done gradually:

2:32 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok!...

2:58 AM
@LakshmiNarayanan Kaalai Vanakkam !

@SS Kaalai Vanakkam! :)

@Tezz @RohitSinghRathore I just emailed you guys an expanded version of the PDF of Utpaladeva's Vivriti on the Ishwara Pratyabhijna Karika. The number of pages has increased from 45 to 76 as I've found more fragments.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok!....

@Tezz @RohitSinghRathore I've contacted two Western Indologists to try to find more surviving fragments. There's one more Indologist I'd like to contact, but I can't seem to find his contact information. His name is Yohei Kawajiri.

@KeshavSrinivasan these indologists search fragment from where?... Kashmir?...

3:14 AM
If anyone can find contact information for an Indologist named Yohei Kawajiri, I'd greatly appreciate it. He's affiliated with a Japanese university called Chikushi Jogakuen University.
@Tezz One of the main sources for Utpaladeva's Vivriti is a fragment of a palm leaf manuscript preserved in the National Archives of India.
@Tezz The other source where people are finding parts of the Vivriti is annotations on manuscripts of the Ishwara Pratyabhijna Karika. Like some ancient student would have a manuscript of the Ishwara Pratyabhijna Karika and then they would write down some text from the Vivriti on the margins of the manuscript just to help them understand it.
@Tezz By the way, the reason why the Vivriti got lost is because Abhinavagupta's Vimarshini got popular and so people stopped trying to preserve the Vivriti. Ironically, the Vimarshini is technically a commentary on the Vivriti. The full name of Abhinavagupta's work is Ishwara Pratyabhijna Vivriti Vimarshini.
@Tezz But the problem is that Abhinavagupta does not quote the actual verses of the Vivriti in his work. That's how the Vivriti got lost.

Why is Vanchulavalli ThAyAr also called Neela Devi Nachiyar?

@LakshmiNarayanan Good question, that's actually on the list of questions I'm planning to ask.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok, i was planning to post as well if chat couldn't answer
@KeshavSrinivasan btw check out my DP :D

@LakshmiNarayanan I got the information that Vanchulavali Thayar is associated with Nila Devi in a post by Velukkudi Krishnan. He says that the Sri Devi, Bhu Devi, and Nila Devi are each associated with one Divya Desam. And Nila Devi is associated with Nachiyar Koil, i.e. the temple where Vanchulavali Thayar is.
@LakshmiNarayanan Oh, is that Kal Garudan of Nachiyar Koil?

@KeshavSrinivasan Which DivyaDesams are Sri Devi and Bhu Devi associated with? SriRangam and SriMooshnam?

3:27 AM
@LakshmiNarayanan Not Sri Rangam, they're both associated with obscure Divya Desams. Let me find that Velukkudi Krishnan post.

@KeshavSrinivasan yes, Narayur Nambi on Utsavam carried by Kal Garudan

@LakshmiNarayanan Oh ok, have you been there?

@KeshavSrinivasan Sadly, not yet.
@KeshavSrinivasan I had a question regarding story of Sage Medhavi as well

@LakshmiNarayanan Oh ok, that's a great temple. It's where Thirumangai Alwar received Samashrayanam from Vishnu. And Narayur Nambi is the subject of Thirumangai Alwar's two Thirumadals, which we discussed earlier.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh! I have to visit soon.

3:33 AM
@LakshmiNarayanan I posted a question about the story of Medhavi, Vanchulavalli Thayar, and Narayur Nambi here:
4
Q: What scriptures describe the story of Vishnu's "subservience" to Lakshmi in the Nachiyar Koil temple?

Keshav SrinivasanIn most Vishnu temples, the statue of Vishnu is in the center of the shrine, with his wife Lakshmi (and sometimes his wife Bhumidevi) at his side. But I recently went to a famous Vishnu temple near Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu that's quite different. It's technically called the Narayur Nambi Vishnu...

@KeshavSrinivasan I think i read it a while back, amnesia again. Did you find the TTD version of the reference in the posted answer? You can talk to @Yogi he may be able to help with getting that version of Brahmanda Purana

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok.... !..

@LakshmiNarayanan Why would @Yogi in particular be able to help?

S S
3:49 AM
Late message: OMG! I didn't recognise you for a moment. Perumal on Garudalwar! @LakshmiNarayanan

4:06 AM
@SS Haha yes :D

4:20 AM
@Tezz I just posted a question on Academia.SE to find that Indologist:
0
Q: How do you find the contact info of a professor in a foreign country?

Keshav SrinivasanI'd like to read the paper "New Fragments of the Ishvarapratyabhijna-vivriti" by Yohei Kawajiri. I can't seem to find it online, so I thought I'd contact the author and ask him for a copy. But I can't seem to find his contact information; he's affiliated with Chikushi Jogakuen University, but ...

4:58 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok...

@KeshavSrinivasan @SS @Tezz Lost legends new episode released.

5:17 AM
@TheDestroyer Oh ok, I haven't started watching Lost Legends yet.

@KeshavSrinivasan ohh ok.

@TheDestroyer Bahubali Lost legends?...
@TheDestroyer I have watched part 1 only...

@Tezz Yes. 3rd episode.

@TheDestroyer Oh ok...

@TheDestroyer I'm planning to watch it, though, but first I have a few other TV shows I want to catch up on. By the way, here is a list of essentially all the live-actions TV shows I've watched live in my life: docs.google.com/document/d/…

5:31 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan You document everything you do?

@KeshavSrinivasan Haha I should have guessed you'd have this list :D
@KeshavSrinivasan check ping

@LakshmiNarayanan i have TTd's Brahmanda Purana (Sanskrit in Telugu lipi). I have Venkatachala Mahatyam stories from all Puranas (TTD's version).

@TheDestroyer Haha no, I'm actually not that organized a person in general. But I made this list because I was having trouble keeping track of which TV shows I was watching had been canceled and which shows had been renewed. A lot of TV shows I've watched have been canceled.

@TheDestroyer Do you have English as well?

@KeshavSrinivasan For us this problem won't arise as we watch in Laptops and would delete immediately particular episode after watching it.
@LakshmiNarayanan No. English is difficult to find. But i think you can get it in Tamil
Go to tirumala ebooks.

5:37 AM
@TheDestroyer ok cool, let me take a look

@LakshmiNarayanan Tirumala ebooks is a great site. Check it out.

@TheDestroyer cool

5:58 AM
@TheDestroyer What does deleting episodes after you watch it have to do with anything?

@KeshavSrinivasan I used to download them as complete season. So, deleting would help me to remember.

A: What is the duty of Indra? What is Indraloka?

Jayesh DengadaAs described in the Shiva Purana, Indra's duty was managing all kind of activity of world(Brahmand). Indraloka is the center of World and Capital of world. Who sits on Indrasan (seat of Indra) they get the power of Indra. That's why all asuras want to win Indraloka.

@TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan ^^^ No sources except shiva purana. Isn't this low quality?

@SS Added post notice. Let him give time. We can decide later.

@TheDestroyer Oh ok

6:57 AM
@TheDestroyer I'm searching one of your posts in which you questioned/answered something like in Shaivates believe Shiva is supreme, Vaishnavas believe in Vishnu and Shaktas in Shakti.... But I'm unable to find it now..

7:16 AM
@KrishnShweta He did post that question? When?

I dunno when he did.
And I'm not sure it was his question or answer.

8:14 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan what will you do if i dont delete? ban me from the website?

@RakeshJoshi Why? What happened?

@KrishnShweta i would answer that question soon and let you know.

Ok but why you said "what will you do if i dont delete? ban me from the website?"

yes because he is forcing me to change the DP...

Oh!! Why?

u can see previous chat messages

A J
I got an offensive/spam flag alert on one of your message, @RakeshJoshi

@AJ which message ?
what do you find offensive in this /

A J
Nothing. That's why I invalidated the flag.

@AJ some people here are forcing me to change my profile picture.
i think its misuse of their moderator powers

@RakeshJoshi people flagged it, all +10K users get a notification to review it. You need to show some "restraint" on certain subjects on SE network. Otherwise you might get a temporary chat ban. If a mod intervenes, you might get longer bans.

8:31 AM
@HamZa you should take care of unwanted flags too .. if the flag is not genuine

A J
@RakeshJoshi They're not wrong. I am Hindu also. You should better use that traditional Swastika with dots in it.

@AJ but is it a rule ? why am i forced to use ?

A J
@RakeshJoshi This is not a rule, but this can be offensive for some people. And they might flag it.

@AJ dots are not related to swastika

@RakeshJoshi stop being a "smart boy". We're just warning you as long SE users. Go ahead, keep that attitude, you'll eventually see

A J
8:34 AM
I see no harm in using Swastika. But not all users are Hindu here.

@HamZa let me know what offensive i spoke against hindus ...

@KrishnShweta i think this question.

Q: Supreme Brahman in Hinduism

The DestroyerHere is What i understood after reading various stories from Puranas and Mahabharatha and theories of Creationism. Vishnu Purana states Vishnu is Supreme God or Supreme Brahman. @RakeshJoshi I'm talking about your general attitude against defying the rules with your avatar and this message

@RakeshJoshi After talking to higher-ups, I have removed your profile pic. Do not change it back.

@KeshavSrinivasan What about this message

8:43 AM
@AJ I think not offensive. He has his opinion on Nazis and Jews. There are even sympathizers for Ravana here.

If anyone can find contact information for an Indologist named Yohei Kawajiri, I'd greatly appreciate it. He's affiliated with a Japanese university called Chikushi Jogakuen University.
@RohitSinghRathore This person apparently has an additional fragment, if I can find his contact information.

Okay I will try to approach him via social networks or via some reputed professors from reputed indian universities.

@RohitSinghRathore The problem is that the website for Chikushi Jogakuen University is in Japanese, so it's hard to find his email address from the website.

@KeshavSrinivasan what is the page link?

@LakshmiNarayanan Here: chikushi.ac.jp
@LakshmiNarayanan There's an English version of the site, but it's quite limited.

@LakshmiNarayanan I don't have a Facebook.
@RohitSinghRathore Do you have an email address for him?
@RohitSinghRathore I don't want to make an international call.

@KeshavSrinivasan

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok

@RohitSinghRathore Thanks, I can email them and ask them for his email address.

9:03 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Sure, although I am not sure with this mail.
found here.

@KeshavSrinivasan - Have u listened the audio book- A Child's History of England by Charles Dickens - librivox.org/a-childs-history-of-england-by-charles-dickens - and is their any similar incident happened over here as that of Thomas Becket. & yes your question on england is nice , I think movie inspired you 👉 king Arthur💂💂💂💂👉👱

@RohitSinghRathore OK, I emailed them.

Btw, You must have read Anne Frank diary? :P @KeshavSrinivasan

@SwiftPushkar No, I've never heard of that book.
@RohitSinghRathore Yeah, I have.
@SwiftPushkar No, I've never watched the 2004 movie King Arthur. I've watched other movies based on King Arthur though, including the 1981 movie Excalibur which is fantastic.

Do you believe Nazis had found Hollow earth?

9:13 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan - ok , you can download that with the link , its the history of england in very detail with very simple & lucid language , you can listen to that while doing other work also 🎧

@SwiftPushkar I posted a question on King Arthur movies here:
3
Q: What King Arthur adaptations depict the story of Uther Pendragon and Igrayne?

Keshav SrinivasanThomas Malory's book Le Morte D'Arthur, which is the definitive account of King Arthur's life, starts off with the story of how King Arthur's father Uther Pendragon desires Igrayne, the wife of the Duke of Cornwall. So Uther invites the Duke and his wife to his castle, but they soon realize Uthe...

@RohitSinghRathore No, I don't believe in Hollow Earth.

But what about Patal lokas of purans then ?

@KeshavSrinivasan - oh ok , that is also a nice movie ,I assumed you watched latest release

9:33 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan - BTW , I also found your midget question very interesting - the playwriters like kalidasa call them Vidushaka (malvikagnimitra) but we don't have sufficient info.about all or some of them were dwarf's or not .😀👍👍

9:48 AM
What is the story of shree Ramanujacharya & snake ⬆ @LakshmiNarayanan @SS @Yogi @KeshavSrinivasan 😃

10:00 AM
@SwiftPushkar maybe it is about Adhyāsa?

@LakshmiNarayanan - ok 😊 What's the story ?

@SwiftPushkar I meant it might be a reference or metaphor to the Rope-Snake analogy. I too don't know any story of Ramanuja specifically encountering a snake.

@LakshmiNarayanan - Yes , i got that ,but that analogy is mostly related to Advaita , I think from pic.it seems that he pacified the snake OR related to previous birth of someone etc.

@SwiftPushkar Oh, i'm not aware of any story like that, let me dig around.

@LakshmiNarayanan - Ok , take your time 😊👍👍

S S
10:14 AM
@SwiftPushkar It looks like the site at Melkote where Ramanuja finds idol of Lord Vishnu. The deity is called Cheluva Narayana swamy. It is found under an ant hill.

@SwiftPushkar the book itself doesn't explain this picture?

@SS - oh ok , i don't know much about shree Ramanujacharya's life history though , but is very much interested in his story , do you know a good reliable e book ?
Madam welcome 👏💐 , busy nowadays ?

@SwiftPushkar I found this at BhaktiList Archives: Embar saw a painful snake with a thorn stuck to its mouth. He went near the snake, pulled out the thorn unminding the danger, and had hisbath. Embar sets example for a Srivaishnava "

@KeshavSrinivasan I just saw a tilted Swastik on Temple.

@KrishnShweta Oh nice find!... @RakeshJoshi ^^^

10:19 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan I was searching the name and location of that temple.
@SwiftPushkar Hello.....

@KrishnShweta Good find, what is written under the vimana?

@KrishnShweta - 😀 👍👍 nice find

@KrishnShweta in buddhism also there is a reverse swastika .. but westerners fails to understand this ... i find it useless to argue with such foreigners.
but soon i will clear this topic with references from other cultures and ancient civilization.
swastika has more occult and esoteric meaning which is not known by common people.,

@LakshmiNarayanan - Shiva-Mandir

10:23 AM
@RakeshJoshi I know you will clear it.

thanks

@LakshmiNarayanan - can u pls.give me the link⛓

Btw, 1 more pic.

@RohitSinghRathore are you going to hyderabad ?

@KrishnShweta Wow! Nice Find.

@RakeshJoshi Why Hyderabad?

i.stack.imgur.com/21Zps.png same search also gives results like this @KrishnShweta

so reverse swastika is not bad but tilted swastika is evil !! :D what a great logic by vaishnavas
@TheDestroyer i think he has an interview there ..

10:26 AM
@RakeshJoshi ok.

@RakeshJoshi don't use Vaishnavas or anything. We are users of SE here.

cos they are tghe one who are targeting

Please don't do this

ok let me continue in other room. bye .

@RakeshJoshi Yes. it's not good to generalize.

10:27 AM
@RakeshJoshi How is this got anything to do with SriVaishnavas? I am happy to accept tilted Swastika (or whatever it is called) if you give scriptural or reliable evidence. so please stop trying to bait SriVaishnavas, it is unbecoming.
@KrishnShweta Thank you.

@LakshmiNarayanan It's black. He used saffron.

@KrishnShweta I think the point there is that it is tilted vs it is upright. maybe saffron vs black also has significance, problem is burden of proof is unfortunately on us to prove it. That seems to be the issue here.

@LakshmiNarayanan swastik is as old as neolethic age.. how can u find scripture reference for that ?

@RakeshJoshi Please waise words math use karo. Aur kuch nahi...
C ya...

@LakshmiNarayanan - " Embar saw a painful snake with a thorn stuck to its mouth. He went
near the snake, pulled out the thorn unminding the danger, and had his
bath. Embar sets example for a Srivaishnava " help anyone in need.
Sorrow / pain of others must be unbearable to a srivaishnava."=20" is this story related to Ramanujacharya , or to Ember , ( sorry i don't know much ,but just started to know)

10:32 AM
@RakeshJoshi It is enough to show reference documenting its powers and symbolism that is independent of nazi origin and predates them.
@SwiftPushkar It is about Embar only, the person holding the snake in the photo is Embar, the Sannyasin next to him is RamanujAcharya, I think.

then why you talk of scriptures ?
swastika is not based on one religion. no one has copyright over it.
its used acroess different cultures and civilizations as a symbol of auspociousness

@LakshmiNarayanan - oh ok 😊👍👍

@RakeshJoshi yes, scriptural reference is what i meant. Scripture is not just vedas right?

ok so stone carving is accepted as scripture ?

@RakeshJoshi Scripture - A body of work that is considered sacred and authoritative.

10:35 AM
no it should be quoted from history rather

@RakeshJoshi whatever your choice, go for max impact and authenticity, try to remember that your post is a reflection of the community as well. best of luck.

S S
@SwiftPushkar Here is a book I have found. It has a brief description of Life of Ramanujacharya. You can read it.

@SS - ok , good book 😊 surely read it धन्यवादं बंधो: 👍👍
@RakeshJoshi - May be the workers who created that swastika just titled the swastika for artistic reason , unknowingly , and may be there is no any special meaning or significance to that , they just tilted the swastika for artistic reason (my guess though)

yes aesthetic reason

10:50 AM
* tilted

yes @RakeshJoshi Hyderabad is the location.

@SS @LakshmiNarayanan - What is this 👉 " Vinatavividhabhutavratarakshaikadheekshe" is this a bhajan composed by him? Do you know this ?

S S
@SwiftPushkar Is this from that song?

@SS - No its given in preface of your book 😊
@SS - oh ok ,its from shree bhasya ,opening verse , missed that :-D

S S
@SwiftPushkar Meaning is also given. It means The one who has taken a vow(deeksha) to guard all the bhutas.

11:08 AM

I think the name should be "Sanskrit & Hindi" on area51. Because pure Hindi vocabulary is same as Sanskrit vocabulary. @Pandya @TheDestroyer @SS @SwiftPushkar @Tezz @LakshmiNarayanan. What say? Or if not how can I propose for Hindi stackexchange?

S S
@RohitSinghRathore There used to a proposal for Hindi stack exchange. It was closed because there was no proper attention.

Hindi speaking people don't know about Stackexchange.

@RohitSinghRathore I had seen there were proposals like "Hindi Language" & "Indian Languages" in addition to "Sanskrit Language"

Can't we append Hindi with Sanskrit. Like " Hindi & Sanskrit"
Where is indian language se?

S S
@RohitSinghRathore There was indian language proposal. It was closed.

2:32 PM
Can we propose again?

S S
@RohitSinghRathore You can raise a discussion question on Sanskrit proposal. Mods will take care if there is proper attention.

Is there any official fb page & twitter account for HSE?

S S
@RohitSinghRathore We can propose. Gathering followers is important
No. Official account is not maintained now. There used to be in the site early days.

To gather followers first we need to make fb page & twitter account otherwise people won't know.

S S
Also asking good questions is also important.

2:35 PM
Okay, then we should make a fb page as well. Posting questions & answers there is enough to gather immense followers.
A
Even a page with unauthorised Hindu contents have millions of followers. An official HSE page will gather users exponentially. Moreover, answers here are all authoritative & reliable.

Q: How do we promote our site?

Mr. AlienThe only question left to be discussed from The 7 Essential Meta Questions of Every Beta is that how do we promote our site? As the site has entered Private Beta, I wish more and more users join the website which will not only help our site graduate but will also help out by asking fascinating q...

Where is the page?

@RohitSinghRathore Yes, you cam propose one proposal per day. Btw, check out FAQ of area51 to predict the sustainability of proposal.

I think we don't have.

S S
2:41 PM
twitter.com/Hinduism_SE This is the twitter account of the site.

@RohitSinghRathore why Hindi bro?

There is a Quora fb page which posts any random question & answer, has many followers. All they do is only redirection.

S S
Reviving the Twitter account would do.

@TheDestroyer I badly failed with pure Hindi while reading Shaiva scripture in Hindi.

@RohitSinghRathore Sanskrit will help Hindi automatically.

2:43 PM
@RohitSinghRathore Though Sanskrit & Hindi shares similar (Devanagari) scripts, there would be major difference between languages.

@RohitSinghRathore I understand classical telugu now with ease.

Read this page. Is page ne mere Jivan mein sikhi hui poora Hindi ka aur spiritual gyaan nichod dala.
This page drew my attention for Hindi proposal.

@RohitSinghRathore There are many proposals. You can check Indian languages proposal.

Okay Bro. 👍

S S
@RohitSinghRathore True. that was classical hindi which we are forgetting these days.

2:54 PM
@SS This is very important too, i feel we need to hold chat events like Q&A on Hinduism regularly to promote site among the SE userbase itself first! @RohitSinghRathore
@TheDestroyer Who maintains the H.SE Twitter feed?

@RohitSinghRathore @SS @LakshmiNarayanan If we can maintain constant 10 QPD, there are very high chances of graduation.
@LakshmiNarayanan I think Ankit.
@AnkitSharma Are you maintaining Twitter account of Hinduism SE?

@TheDestroyer Can we make a bot to post good answers and good questions onto the twitter directly? @Pandya please weigh in. Good being some minimum votes as threshold

@LakshmiNarayanan Yep. We can do that.

S S
@LakshmiNarayanan Yes. A bot can be created.

@TheDestroyer @SS That is the first task on our Promotion list
Let me create a question on Meta and list promotion strategies and discuss there? what say @TheDestroyer @SS @Pandya

2:59 PM
@LakshmiNarayanan Right now, our site is good in no of views. We need more questions per day. At least 10 per day.

@TheDestroyer More people => more questions?

@LakshmiNarayanan But answers (with sources)?

@TheDestroyer QPD means with Answers as well?

@LakshmiNarayanan I think many Twitter profile of SE communities do that.

@LakshmiNarayanan No need actually. But SE doesn't say exact rules. They may even see %of answered questions. But rule of thumb is QPD. But this is not only criteria,

3:01 PM
@TheDestroyer we need to delegate work amongst us, i know reading is interest based but if we can all do some small Yagna(sacrifice) for the sake of the site by forming groups to systematically study and discuss some key texts, i know we will get good questions with good answers to add to them as well
@SS @SwiftPushkar whta say? ^

@LakshmiNarayanan Yes. Self answering can be used by knowledgeable users.

@TheDestroyer How to gain this knowledge? Group Yagna is the way i feel

@LakshmiNarayanan Some users already do that, like Tezz.

@LakshmiNarayanan Keshav and Rickross also self answer.

3:03 PM
@TheDestroyer no, Alien was doing it I suppose

I can't imagine Hinduism.SE without @Keshav & @Tezz! Haha

I was looking into facebook page but no time for it anymore either

@SS @SwiftPushkar @TheDestroyer @Pandya Do you think a concerted group effort piggybacking on these self answer leaders guiding a group is viable option?
@Pandya even a n00b like me understands this :D They are resources for sure.
@AnkitSharma Hi

@TheDestroyer Btw, we may no need to concentrate on graduation much as beta sites like this are unlikely to be closed.

@LakshmiNarayanan hi

3:06 PM
@Pandya But there are also chances of remaining in perpetual beta stage.

@TheDestroyer Yes but what are we missing as as beta site currently?

@AnkitSharma Are you into Sci Fi?

@Pandya what are we missing for graduation?

@TheDestroyer no, I mean what things/features we are missing of graduation (since having a beta site)?

@KeshavSrinivasan Would you be interested in guiding a reading seminar? Would you have firstly 1) the Time, 2) the Interest. It will be a great Yagna!

3:09 PM
@LakshmiNarayanan Yes and no. I have differences with how they work and with a mod.

@AnkitSharma I meant the genre, not the SE :D

@Pandya From meta SE post i read QPD is major factor in graduation.

@LakshmiNarayanan lol, ok
Not much
I don't care about genre much

@AnkitSharma :...(

@LakshmiNarayanan what happen

3:11 PM
@TheDestroyer I mean currently why do we need graduation soon? (If our beta is unlikely to be closed)

@AnkitSharma Nothing, i thought given your scifi rep you would have interest. Even @SS is not into scifi

@Pandya to get cool design and more mainstream presence
@LakshmiNarayanan I have seen many but that's not my focus point

@LakshmiNarayanan What do you mean by guiding a reading seminar? Do you mean suggesting books for people to read?

@KeshavSrinivasan Guiding a group in reading a particular text and having regular discussion to make Q&A posts on H.SE. Like a course reading seminar. what say?
@AnkitSharma ok
@Tezz Would you be interested in guiding a group reading seminar?

@AnkitSharma Yes, it sounds good but we should also check if it is required really at present since I found (from views of some users) that we shouldn't force users to ask questions just for the shake of increasing QPD.

3:18 PM
@LakshmiNarayanan Yeah, that sounds fine. I have plenty of time on my hands. But what do you mean by "having regular discussion to make Q&A posts"? I understand the regular discussion part, but how do Q&A posts fit in?

@KeshavSrinivasan we were discussing about graduation and the problem seems to be QPD. So this will help that as well as make the site systematically show up in Google Searches and help with promotion. Most importantly, it will give knowledge and depth in a particular topic one by one.
@KeshavSrinivasan Like we can have Duties as a reader to make sure we come up with a question and answer each week based off the text perhaps? Haven't thought out all the details of interaction. Feel free to modify/suggest.

Q: Let's make our site an excellent repository of frequently asked significant questions about Hinduism!

PandyaInternet has become a repository of information today. Though there are many question-answers about Hinduism on websites and forums but the quality & reliability of StackExchange surpasses that of other sites. Many people are looking for the information on various topics of Hinduism on the web b...

@Pandya hmmm

@LakshmiNarayanan "guiding a group reading seminar?"... I don't understand this clearly... can you make me clear...
@Pandya haha... I'm sure you can at least imagine...😀😀😂

@Pandya I don't like that idea

3:22 PM
@LakshmiNarayanan Oh, you mean a question and a simultaneous answer to share something the reader has learned from that part of the book?

@KeshavSrinivasan actually, exactly like that.
@Tezz We choose a text, study it carefully and you will guide discussions based on what seems interesting or important regularly on say a separate chatroom for this purpose
@Tezz Then readers in the group will come up with Q&A posts that serve as community wikis

@RohitSinghRathore I don't think the proposal of adding Hindi and making 'Sanskrit and Hindi' will be accepted...

@LakshmiNarayanan Or we could do it like this: we could have people read a part of a book, and then the readers could ask about all the doubts they had in the discussion, and then whatever doubts no one can resolve in the discussion can be posted as questions on the site.

@LakshmiNarayanan Oh ok nice idea!.. But I think I won't have time to do all these... maybe @KeshavSrinivasan or @TheDestroyer do as guiding a group...

@KeshavSrinivasan yeah, it will help create a repository of good questions. what about Q&A posts? Do you think such a thing is not admissible? It will help with collecting good sourced info onto the site na so why not both!
@KeshavSrinivasan we can have a regular chat event set up for this if we can get a group going!
@KeshavSrinivasan Cool, where do we begin? @All Please inform interest for Keshav's Seminar!
@Tezz Ok, @TheDestroyer What say?

3:29 PM
But at least we should have one official Facebook page...

@LakshmiNarayanan Yeah, we could do both, assuming we find information in a text and that info is not easily available through Google searching from other sites.
@LakshmiNarayanan Well, I think the first step is to select a book which both I and other people would find interesting.

@KeshavSrinivasan makes sense. We will have good coverage of a topic this way as well with different approaches, one for each reader.
@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah, this is the hard part - we can pick a text with good commentaries from different perspectives? This way, people will get a flavor for all kinds of thinking. PurvaPaksha being the least common denominator if it comes to that!

@LakshmiNarayanan Well, reading multiple commentaries might require too much work. I was thinking, reading something like the Shabara Bhashya or the Sri Bhashya.

@KeshavSrinivasan We can have people summarise the commentary of their choice and use that as a starting point to discuss that commentary, with each commentary once before moving to next topic in the moola text and repeat?
@KeshavSrinivasan I vote for Shabara Bhashya first!

@LakshmiNarayanan Yeah, Shabara Bhashya would be a good choice, assuming we can get enough takers.

3:37 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan How to take polls in site?

@LakshmiNarayanan Then you will know some secret things like animals fast in eighth day of a month...😁😁 // @KeshavSrinivasan

@Tezz Haha

@LakshmiNarayanan I can post a poll in Meta.

@KeshavSrinivasan I'm thinking google form, this would be better i guess.

@LakshmiNarayanan OK, I don't know how to do Google forms.

3:41 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan google.com/forms I can create as well.

@LakshmiNarayanan OK, let's think of more possible texts first.
@LakshmiNarayanan You can look through my Meta answer here and see which texts you think people might be interested in:

A: Which texts have you read?

Keshav SrinivasanNote: I don't generally read Hindu scriptures and works linearly from beginning to end. So here is a list of some of the texts I've read, in whole or in part: Samhitas of the Vedas: Rig Veda Samhita Taittiriya Samhita of the Yajur Veda Vajasaneyi Samhita of the Yajur Veda Sama Veda Samhita At...

@KeshavSrinivasan I'll make a shortlist but i don't know which of these texts have prerequisites, which ones are interesting in their scope for first time readers, which ones need commentaries to understand.

@LakshmiNarayanan OK, make a list and I'll tell you which, if any, I think would be good.

Adi Shankaracharya's Vivekachudamani
Commentaries on the Upanishads by a particular commentator
Sri Bhashya
Ramanujacharya's Vedanta Sara
Shabara Swami's Mimamsa Sutra Bhashya
Tirumular's Tirumantiram
BG with all the commentaries
Madhvacharya's Brahma Sutra Bhashya
Adi Shankaracharya's Brahma Sutra Bhashya
Principal Upanishads
Haritayana's Tripura Rahasya

4:05 PM
@LakshmiNarayanan OK, none of them seem like good choices apart from Shabara Bhashya and Sri Bhashya. Why don't you do this: put a poll with four choices. "Shabara Bhashya", "Sri Bhashya", "I'm not interested in participating", and "Other", and then for other allow them to suggest another text.

Q: Navagrahas directions

Parthasarathy RaghavanNavagrahas do not face each other. They will not see each other. What is the religious reason for this? Any specifics in puranas?

4:25 PM
@RakeshJoshi - Thanks , actually i am very much interested in knowing about great guru's and acharyas & rushi's , and their philosophy , life-story etc. that is a good book 👍👍

S S
@SwiftPushkar Question closed. But I am not satisfied with those answers

@SS - Yes , ok , I just pointed out that , sorry i was responsible for your 1 question closing & one answer deleting 😀 , I am not feeling ok , but anyway nice question , you can ask another one 👍👍

4:40 PM
@All please check out this form if you are interested in participating in a Reading Seminar. @KeshavSrinivasan has agreed to lead discussions in this effort -> goo.gl/forms/3tMgKMa86Tf8Vi5v2
Note that email login is required for response to ensure one response per user but it is not stored in the form.

@LakshmiNarayanan why can't we do it here instead of other site?

@TheDestroyer I can do it, i just don't know how to create a poll here.
