A: How to tell what sub-folder an images is stored default **Gallery App** application?

beeshyamsCamera pics are stored in DCIM folder whose path is /storage/emulated/0/DCIM How to find full path Using a file explorer , say Solid Explorer, browse and search for DCIM folder and click on 3 button menu → Properties → Folder Information and you will find the path under Parent folder Similarly...

The images we are looking at are not in /storage/emulated/0/DCIM. That is where the pictures are placed when they are first snapped from the camera. But they are not there now. That is the first place we looked to try to find them. The Gallery App shows images that are on the Internal sdcard , images that are on the exterminal sdcard, it shows images that are in the Download, directory. It shows images that are in many folders all over the phone and attached sdcard.... (continued)
... ...(continued) There are quiet a few images in the folder you mentioned, but none of the images we want to copy are in that folder. They are showing in the Gallery App but we can't figure out how to locate them while browsing the 128Gig Sdcard, and the huge space available on the phone itself. We can't even tell if they are on the phone or the SDCard. Browsing around we can see images on both, but we hare having problems finding the actual location of the particular images in question.

Sorry, Misunderstood that part. Never mind, browse for jpg pictures on say external SD card(assuming that is the format) and follow the same directions in answer to locate the directory !

I browse the folders. I use the USB cable to browse all the folders. The problem is that we don't know which folder to look in. My client has hundreds of images on his phone, from years of copying and sorting. The only application he has ever used is Gallery. He shows them to me in Gallery. Now I want to copy those files from the phone. But I don't know which folder to look in to find the images. The question is how to get the full path from the Gallery App. Is it possible that you can look at the Gallery App on your phone and identify a method from that app?

There is no direct path to gallery app - either there is a path to gallery icon or empty folder. Fact that you are using USB cable to browse should be a part of your question, I assumed that it is your phone and you can install an app in it. Suggest you edit your question accordingly, so that others can pitch in with a solution. I would then delete my answer since my understanding of problem was incorrect
Also doesn't right clicking the picture in the explorer (assuming you are using windows) not reveal path?

My question is specific. I don't use the Gallery App. I use a number of other applications on my phone. But I mainly use my computer. I don't store/sort images on my phone, I download them to my computer and handle them there. If asked the question you are suggesting , the answer would be the things that I already know, and am very proficient with. I'm trying not to have to install a different app on my client's phone, if I can. So my question is very specific. How to use the Gallery App. This is so that users who are familiar with the default Gallery App can chime in.
I edited the question to try to make it clearer. Thanks again for the input.

I am afraid that time has been spent without truly understanding the problem. Here is the last attempt that hopefully can help. On my device Moto X Play running 6.0.1- this is the situation. I don't create folders but I can see albums such as phone, sd card, screenshots, WhatsApp images etc

I understand if you don't know (as I don't know) how to look at an image in the "Gallery App" and be able to identify (from the Gallery App) where on the device (the actual path) the item is located. It might not be possible. I spent a lot of time trying to find the path of the image, using the "Gallery App". When I couldn't do it, I posted the question to other Android Enthusiast in hope, that someone that is more familiar with it could chime in.
I don't mean to wasted your time. I just hope that someone that knows enough of the particular app will answer the question... I also understand the answer might be that it's not possible. If it's not possible, then I can stop trying to figure out how to display this information from the Gallery App. If it's possible, then on my clients next appointment, I'll allow him to point to the images, then I'll get the path and browse to it from my USB connection and grab the images.

When I open any of them and select a pic, a tick mark appears and from the 3 dot menu > details > scrolling down i can see the path as /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/camera

We ran out of time. I'm hoping to be prepared for how to use his app on the next appointment.
You are seeing this in the default Gallery App?
Thanks. I'm trying to find this what you described in mine.

For those on external SD the path is similar except instead of 0 , it is the sd card name - yes, I see this in default gallery app

Is the Gallery App the one that you are seeing the three dots in?

5:51 PM
Yes, default gallery app

I don't see 3 dots in my gallery app. I couldn't find that option in his either. Spent nearly an hour trying to find a way (from the Gallery App).
Thanks.. I'm looking harder.

Moto X is supposed to be close to stock. If your client is using other model, like Samsung or Huawei, it may well be different and could also vary as per the Android version . Adding those details to the question would help.
Sorry i couldn't help further and an deleting my answer. Which probably would delete this chat too, since it is under the answer, so you may make a note of key points

I did add the details. Samsung Galaxy X7 was in the original topic. I cleaned the topic and put it in bold in the actual question.

Then let's hope for a Samsung user to pitch in :)
All the best

You're welcome... Thanks a bunch for the input. I tried to send image in case that would help you to point out what I might be missing. But I'll let you go. I have the key points. Have a great day!

Also mention in your Q that you can't install a file browser and next that you are browsing from a PC - else you may find similar replies !
Your image was not uploaded

I don't want to restrict it to browsing from a PC. I just want to know how to get the file location if possible. I was browsing from the PC. But if I call my client on the phone, he'll be browsing from the "Gallery App" and he'll give me the full pathane. The I can give him an interactive link to process further.

Point seen

I believe the question has some merit. It really about using the Gallery App. As I mentioned, it might not be possible. If it is I hope to learn. In the meantime, I'm going to enable the ADB on his phone on the next appointment and issue a "adb shell find" command and look for the Folders with the Albums he points out.
Point seen?
Oh... I understand your reference.
I really appreciate the time you took to try to help. I
I'm preparing for my clients next visit. I'm gong to use "find" and "pull" to get the folders he points out.

All the best.. Signing off

I'm also going to do as you suggested, and try to make my question clear about the "Gallery App" on the Samsung. Because I'm sure I'll have this issue in the future at some meetings...
Ok... have a good day!

Thanks again for the time and attention to the question. If your answer had not been deleted I would mark it as accepted as well as an upvote for the merit. Hitting the menu key was invaluable. The problem was finding the menu key. I acknowledged in the answer my appreciation to you input, where the steps came from.
