Q: Rav Chaim Volozhiner and Nittelnacht

Mark A.In discussing the minhagim of Nittelnacht with a few people, I was told that Rav Chaim Volozhin "abolished" Nittelnacht. I don't know why Chaim Volozhiner would have any shaychis to Nittelnacht at all, that he would have to "abolish" it, but does anyone know of any sources that discuss Rav Chaim ...

Is wax eagle retiring too? He hasn't been online since September.

@curiousdannii No, just David for now. But his current activity level (he's okay by the way, just in a personal transition for a while) was a factor in opening up two mod slots.

@Nathaniel I think your edit of the question christianity.stackexchange.com/questions/18017/… is inappropriate. "Catholic" is Christianity in general not Catholicism in particular. If there is an issue here it is with the question and it should be given to the OP to restate the question in the terms acceptable to you. Your edit clearly is not what the OP intended.

@RevelationLad I'd be happy to address this, but I think it may be better suited for the general chat room, not the election chat room. Mind if I move your comment?

It does concern me when moderators may seem to allow their personal religious views intrude into moderation. However, in the above instance, and regardless of the theology, I don't think Nathaniel was showing any bias in his edit.

8:48 PM
@Nathaniel can we really support a moderator who makes spelling mistakes in his nomination blurb? :P

@Birdie I have no idea what you're talking about. And since the edit history isn't exposed, you haven't any proof! ;)

Hahahah

9:21 PM
@Nathaniel I can though. ;)

@El'endiaStarman Haha oh welll, I guess ultiamtely I was bound to be found out.

Also, in your questionnaire:
> Poor defense a view, such as with "this is what my pastor said" or "I'm Lutheran and here's what I think [about your question on Lutheranism]" moves the question into bad/incorrect.
Two errors here.

hmm, I see a missing "of"; what else?

"moves the [answer] into bad/incorrect"
NO, SE chat, this is NOT the time to quick-link that!

ah, gotcha; it's an answer, duh

Oh sweet, escaping the brackets works!

well, I'm glad to know that someone at least is reading that monstrosity

@All Do you know where I can find a file (TXT, CSV, SQL) with the Greek TR (Stephanus, Scrivener, etc.) with accents?

@Nathaniel Not at all.

@RevelationLad Great, thanks! I've just moved the conversation to the main Christianity.SE chat room. Now, to respond:
@RevelationLad The OP of that question actually did update his own question, back in July 2013, after it was closed for being "primarily opinion based." He changed the body of the question to ask for the "Catholic" (capital C) teaching, and this was understood as referring to Catholicism, not "catholic" (universal) Christianity. This is confirmed by a) the subsequent tag edit by a moderator and b) the fact that the question was reopened.
All this can be seen by taking a look at the revisions for the question.
Admittedly, it seems that the OP didn't really want to make this change, because he did originally ask for the views of Christianity generally. But such questions don't work well in our format, so when the question was closed and he had to decide what to do, he apparently felt that getting the view of Catholicism was better than nothing.
I added that scope to the question title because I felt that it clarified the question and made it less likely that it would be confused for a general "what does Christianity think" question.
Hope this makes sense! I'm glad to explain further if it would be helpful.

@RevelationLad Just to follow up, even though I handled that post a little while ago I just cleaned up the rest of the obsolete comments on the question. If you have any questions about how we handle stuff be sure to ask. Our meta has assorted posts on this issue of matching perspectives. I know this is a pretty big switch up from what you may be used to on the hermeneutics site which has a different MO.
