@ArtOfCode Oh. Depends which one. The Bayesian one is a fork of some years old smokey rev, not sure if I even still have it. The neural network one is pretty similar, forked and not very pretty. Neither have been published on GH.

Reaching for the Moon (Portuguese: Flores Raras, "Rare Flowers") is a 2013 Brazilian biographical drama film directed by Bruno Barreto. The film is based on the book Flores Raras e Banalíssimas (in English, Rare and Commonplace Flowers), by Carmem Lucia de Oliveira. The film dramatizes the love story of the American poet Elizabeth Bishop and the Brazilian architect Lota de Macedo Soares. Set largely in Petrópolis between the years 1951 and 1967, the film tells the story of Bishop’s passionate and often tumultuous life with Soares in Brazil. == Cast == Glória Pires as Lota de Macedo Soares Miranda...

I once visited the Pisa cathedral with a friend who was wearing a sleeveless top. The staff gave her (for free) a horrible large sky blue paper "tunic" to wear over her clothes: basically, a large sheet of crepe paper with a hole in it. It felt a lot like an item of clothing especially designed for shaming people who entered with a 'sinful' attire. — Federico Poloni Oct 20 '14 at 7:25

@Undo well I reverse image searched the image he was using. stock image from 2011.

He has since edited the listing to "late 2008" and added real pictures (offerupnow.com/item/detail/178874248/macbook-13-inch-late-2009). still worth it? Is 2008 still supported by Apple? It's not too important that it is, but I'd like to know (how would I find out for myself?)

10:18 PM
I mean I guess it's $45 lol

@Seth Yeah, that's significantly less appealing.

You'd look at a page like support.apple.com/en-us/HT201475.
@Seth awesome deal, stolen, or kidnapping attempt. Maybe all three.

yeah.
Does Apple do stolen device reporting?

The image is lifted from pbcomputershop.com/15-17-laptops
@Seth IIRC they'll record that it's stolen and try to get it back if it shows up at a store.

10:26 PM
@Undo hhu, Google didn't return that.

@Seth Honestly, for $45 I'd probably wait and put it towards an '09 or better when it comes up.

@Undo fair enough.

It'd probably be a fine machine, but now you've stepped down to 2GB RAM and we've established that the owner is a liar.

@Seth Oh, missed the ram part.

That $45 is half of a 275GB MX300.

interesting, he posted on Craigslist too: seattle.craigslist.org/see/sys/5838267213.html

yeah, 2008 is quickly getting into "ancient relic" territory.

yeah, 8 years old.

You said you're wanting to use this for school?
I.e. as an actual portable?

truth is I don't have the budget for a decent Mac, but I'm getting desperate.
@Undo yes. Just something that can run VMWare and be portable (not Windows)

10:31 PM
Chromebook?
I hear good things about some of those

No VMWare.

I've got an '09 Pro sitting here, but at least the HDD controller (maybe just the SATA cable) and possibly the screen are dead.

and Chromebooks require constant internet connection (last I checked) and are run by Google.

And I've taken most of the parts off of it and it has all the bad keycaps.

Windows laptop, dual-boot Ubuntu?

10:32 PM
@ArtOfCode Already have. I refuse to use Windows 10.
And I can't go back to 8 -.-

or just an ubuntu laptop for that matter

@ArtOfCode The VMWare server they use at school won't let me log in from VMWare Workstation and the people there aren't being helpful about it.
@Undo can you be more specific?

Dell XPS 13 Developer edition, comes running Ubuntu. 13.3" screen.
4
A: What netbook runs GNU/Linux?

cybermonkeyThere are a variety of notebooks that are capable of running Linux, and some even have it pre-installed by the manufacturer: Dell XPS 13- Developer edition A lightweight notebook, but its 13.3" screen size may be too large for you. It does however come with Ubuntu 14.04 pre-installed, so hard...

@Seth Missing a hard drive, optical drive, only 4GB RAM and I don't know if the screen works.

ThinkPad X240 also listed in an answer there

10:35 PM
@ArtOfCode you're missing large chunks of the story ;)

Hyyypothetically, if I could get the screen to work it might be a decent machine. May require an external USB thing to run.

I'm broke, can't use Linux, already tried, refuse to use 10. Right now the vSphere web client works about half the time on Ubuntu, so I'm surviving. Just looking around to see what's out there in the Apple world. Deceiving myself that I could afford something.

@ArtOfCode this'll be a fun one.

@Undo this was also in the wrong room

@Undo hm. I can come up with a HDD and maybe replace the screen.
what do you mean "external USB thing" to run?

10:38 PM
@Seth I think the hard drive controller might be bad, I had issues running it with an internal drive.
I know it works with a USB/FW drive.
And may work with a drive in the optical bay

@Undo ooh, okay.

... also it looks like the AirPort connector got pulled off the board. Possibly solderable, but iffy

what's so terrible about WX?

@Undo you'll have to enlighten me about Apple terminology lol. What's AirPort?

@Seth Wifi/Bluetooth card.

Ah. Raaaather important haha

Yeah
Although it's in a decent place to solder.
SMC still works
Or at least the battery charger/meter part of it

@Seth budget?

... hey, suddenly the screen works after a few years of sitting

@ArtOfCode pretty much nonexistent. I wasn't looking at anything over $150, but I'd be hard pressed to spend that. Like I said, can't really afford anything atm, but I'm angry :p

10:44 PM
what the heck. I must have just not connected it right
Before the backlight wouldn't run. Now it's fine.
So now we're pretty much looking at just the AirPort cable and HDD problem

totally legit

I can still read that number

@ArtOfCode I don't care that much

10:46 PM
Working '09s seem to sell for about $200-$300 on Ebay

@Undo are you offering to sell it to me then?

@Seth Not that far along yet.

okay! Just wasn't sure where you were going with this :)
I'm not in too big of a rush, for obvious reasons.

Mostly just grabbed it off the shelf to see if it'd run. And it does, so now I'm kinda exploring possibilities.
oh, that's the subwoofer connector, not the airport connector
