@AnkitSharma @KeshavSrinivasan I think this would be useful for this. /cc @TheDestroyer @Tezz
@TheDestroyer I've also found shankaracharya.org, celextel.org and vedarahasya.net as useful. How about it? /cc @Tezz

@Pandya is there anyway to prepare FAQs by tag? for example, under [shiva] tag we can add questions such as "Why shiva is worshipped in Linga form?" and some other most frequently asked questions. We can add "resources answer " and " FAQs answer" to help centre.
@AnkitSharma @KeshavSrinivasan
'@Tezz
@Pandya wow. they are great resources. Add them.

@TheDestroyer Every tag has two parts 1.Excerpt(Usage Guidance) and 2.Wiki(Information). I think you can add that in 2nd part.

@Pandya ok. A newbie should get max information about a particular "topic" (under tag Shiva or Vishnu or Mahabharatha or ..) with these FAQs / @KeshavSrinivasan @Tezz @AnkitSharma
@Pandya ok. I'm adding them to the answer.

5:18 AM
@TheDestroyer I was also trying... you've done. good.

Q: What are the some books that relate Hinduism to science?

DhevathirajanI was reading a book by Dalai Lama called "The universe in a single atom" which relates Buddhism to science. Similarly, it would be great to know of some books that relate Hinduism to science. Some books, which can give me some cognitive and theoretical understanding of the religion of Hindui...

@TheDestroyer what is that...?

@Tezz that is 4G services by Reliance . It uses data for all operations. So, free calls and unlimited internet for dec 31

@TheDestroyer oh here is not 4G... though I have 4G mobile...

@TheDestroyer I think you can add hinduism.stackexchange.com/q/8304/277 in your question.

@Tezz ok. I think Reliance didn't launch it for Nepal. but everyone is here struggling a lot to get JIO Sim.
@Tezz i will add this link
@Pandya But that is unanswered.

5:55 AM
@TheDestroyer @Tezz do you know any web-resource that provides Hindi+English along with Sanskrit Vedas? as expected in Q. hinduism.stackexchange.com/q/8304/277
I've one draft on that question:

@Pandya Getting them in these three languages in difficult.

Getting them in these three languages together in is difficult.

@Pandya yeah.

@TheDestroyer ok...
@Pandya No, I don't know any such sites...

i should add kamakoti.org

6:03 AM
BTW, FYI: I've contacted @Pops for explaining how ॐ is perfect for our site and how Buddhism & Jainism is not an issue at all and hence is incorrect decision) He has replied after long-time telling he will think again if needed.
Update:
On @Pops's request, we're having another community manager look into this for a second opinion. Stay tuned! — hairboat ♦ 13 hours ago

@Pandya To be frank I am not into that section but if you really want that suggest in meta and if it got good response I will implement it

@AnkitSharma Welcome, you looks serious in your new avatar!
@AnkitSharma ok.

@Pandya yes Buddhism or Jainism shouldn't be issue on Hindus using Om... Om precedes Buddhism and Jainism both scriptually and in Indologist dating also...

@Pandya lol.. that answer got 5 downvotes

@Pandya I look like this only ;D

6:06 AM
actually 7 down + 2 up

@Pandya wow

@Tezz Actually Buddhism & Jainism are Nastik schools of Hindu philosophy. - Explained

@TheDestroyer and what is your name? (if you don't mind)

Hmm.

6:19 AM
@TheDestroyer Maruti comes from Marut which are wind Gods ...

@TheDestroyer From hi.wikipedia.org/wiki/…:
> मारुत (संस्कृत: मरुत्) का अर्थ हवा है। नंदन का अर्थ बेटा है। हिंदू पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार हनुमान "मारुति" अर्थात "मरुत-नंदन" (हवा का बेटा) हैं।

@TheDestroyer you are Kartikeya..

@Tezz lol.. how?

@TheDestroyer solve it yourself... It's a puzzle...

@Tezz It is good if my name is same as karikeya who is Shiva's son. Do you mean Vayu is Shiva Himself?

6:25 AM
@TheDestroyer Anil means Agni and Kumar is son... Agni Kumar is Kartikeya...

@Tezz ohh.. how Anil is Agni? AFAIK, Anil is wind
@Tezz Is Agni Kumara due to Agni carrying seed of Shiva?

@TheDestroyer oh you made me confused... I read Somewhere where Anila was used as Fire...
@TheDestroyer yes due to carrying seed of Shiva....

@Tezz Anyways, my name implies hanuman and thereby Shiva.. So, i'm happy

@TheDestroyer haha... and Shiva entered in Vayu in his AshtaMurti form also ..

@Tezz ohh.. i don't much about this Asta murthy form

6:33 AM
@Tezz (Tejasvi) By the way our names are related

@TheDestroyer read that chapter of Satapatha Brahmana...
@Pandya haha yes.. Deep ki Tejaswita...

6:51 AM
By the way I know following two mantras but don't know scriptural source for it:
> शुभं करोतु कल्याणमारोग्यं धनसंपदः ।
शत्रुबुद्धिविनाशाय दीपज्योतिर्नमोस्तु ते ॥
> दीप ज्योतिः परब्रह्म दीप ज्योतिर्जनादनः ।
दीपो हरतु मे पापं दीपज्तोतिर्नमोस्तु ते ॥
Do you've any idea about which scripture does it come from? @Tezz

7:25 AM
@Pandya I don't know... maybe it is in Puranas in places like Deepa Mahatmya...

@Tezz What is Deepa Mahatmya?
@Tezz Should we answer this?

Q: Resurrection stories in Hindu sciptures?

Pythagorean MysticChristians claim the resurrection story to be very unique. Is there any story in Puranas , where anyone died and resurrected after dying. And also is there is any parallel story of someone raising people from the dead.

2 hours later…
9:54 AM
@TheDestroyer - yes , i think kaamdeva and rati is famous Resurrection story , we can use that in answer.

10:25 AM
I've recently found very good question by Ankit Sharma:
9
Q: Do we have experts here?

Ankit SharmaDo we have experts here? I mean do we have theorists, historicists, or researchers of Hinduism here? Some professionals like pundits/etc. who have better knowledge of Hinduism. For community growth, that will be helpful.

@AnkitSharma I've been thinking (for about 6 month) sabout Aacharyas/Pundits of Ved Shala who knows Vedas and KarmaKanda well can be very helpful for the growth and quality of site.

@Pandya hmmm

@AnkitSharma - Do we need to remove the TAG Christianity frm this Q.? Or is it ok

12:46 PM
Seems not necessary
remove it

@AnkitSharma - ok

2 hours later…
2:54 PM
@Pandya Swami Vishwananda is 66 yrs old. He may not like to chat..

3:40 PM
@TheDestroyer Mahatmya means Glory and Deepa Mahatmya means Glory Of Deepa (Light)....

3:51 PM
@TheDestroyer how did you know his age?..

@TheDestroyer @Tezz - i also was curious about him , i think he is devotee of shree Ramakrishna paramhans :) i guessed that from answers ,

1 hour later…
5:02 PM
@TheDestroyer Oh.. Ok..

@Tezz i can understand meaning of Deepa mahatmya but it belongs to which scripture?

@Tezz - we were discussing about the same , some days ago :) vedas and variants

Sep 24 at 17:03, by The Destroyer
@KeshavSrinivasan Agni Purana says 15 Sakhas of Yajurveda will be existing at end of kalki. But I'm not clear after Buddha or before kalki.
@Tezz

I think even at the time of Buddha we have same Sakhas of Vedas..
as mentioned in your answer.

@Tezz - actually this is very nice information , i also came across names of some lost shakhas , while searching , like kukla yajurveda etc.

@TheDestroyer I don't know... I'm just guessing it might be in some Puranas...

5:09 PM
@TheDestroyer @Tezz - is kalki purana exsists ?

@SwiftPushkar Yes.

@SwiftPushkar yes...

do you people have link , of that ,just give me pls.

@SwiftPushkar oh I didn't knew about that discussion....

@Tezz - ohh , u me and keshav shrinivasan were discussing abt , lost shakas that day , exactly , as you said in ans. :) will try t search ,

@SwiftPushkar oh... You were talking about that day conversation... I remember it... I was thinking of another discussion...
@SwiftPushkar I have answered Several questions here based on Kalki Puranas like this:
7
A: Kali and Kaliyug

TezzIn Hinduism (or Sanatana Dharma), there is a beautiful concept where even the non living things and abstract ideas also exist in personified form. It is because Consciousness runs everything as Shrutis/ Vedas state: प्रज्ञानं ब्रह्म (Aitreya Upanishad 3.3) Prajnam Brahman ie. Pure Consc...

@SwiftPushkar me too..

@Tezz - yes , abt lost shakas , and not abt kalki purana :)

A: Will Parashurama reappear in Kaliyuga?

The DestroyerYes. According to Kalki Purana, Parasurama will teach Vedas to Lord Kalki who is upcoming Avatar of Lord Vishnu during transition times of Kali Yuga and Satya Yuga. suta uvdca tato vastum gurukule yantam kalkim ninksya sah mahendradn sthito ramah samaniya asramam prabhuh Suta Gosvami s...

@TheDestroyer but we have only six Shakhas of Yajurveda now... maybe some come and revive the Shakhas...before Kalki comes...

5:16 PM
@Tezz Why to revive Sakhas before Kalki? After loosing these Sakhas completely, Kalki may come.

@TheDestroyer then why does Agni Purana says 15 Shakhas of YajurVeda will be surviving before Kalki...? (Presently only 6 Shakhas are surviving)...

@Tezz No.. i think Agni Purana says before buddha 15 Sakhas are there.. as Kalki has not yet come.

@TheDestroyer Oh ok...

@Tezz @TheDestroyer - wht i think is the knowledge of those lost shakas are here itself , only one can get that or revive that through TAPA or sadhana etc. i mean the knowledge of those lost shakas is present in universe but only we need to , revive or find tht through effort
@Tezz @TheDestroyer - yes , seen your answers , already gone through that before :) 👍

@SwiftPushkar yes they are present as Vibrations .. but Some scripture say One Can't hear Veda Mantras in Kaliyuga (in meditation)... so we may not get from Tapa that fruit...

5:23 PM
@SwiftPushkar Yeah.. but i doubt that.. Truth appears as different for different personas.. For Adi Shankara it is Advaita, for Ramanuja Visitaadvaita,.... I also doubt whether normal people can revive Vedas. Just after beginning of Satya Yuga, 7 sages come to earth and teach all Vedas and scriptures.

@Tezz - yes agree , we may need lots of sadhana and goodwill toward world in order to achieve that , but its very rare in kaliyuga :0

@Tezz Which scriptures say we can't hear Veda in Kaliyuga during Tapa?

@TheDestroyer there is one question by @KeshavSrinivasan ... wait I search...

@TheDestroyer - no iam not talking about normal persons but , a few who are \will be very very grt. personalities , just like those rushies , and will do same tapa as those rushies have done in ancient times :)

Q: Was Shwetaketu born in a previous Kali Yuga?

Keshav SrinivasanAs I discuss in this answer, how the Vedas originated is that from time immemorial, sages known as Dhrishtas heard sacred verses directly from the gods during a state of Tapasya (deep meditation), and then in the Dwapara Yuga they were compiled into the four books we call the Vedas. But this cha...

But this chapter of the Apastamba Dharma Sutras, a text associated with the Yajur Veda, says that such sages are not born in the Kali Yuga: @TheDestroyer

5:27 PM
@SwiftPushkar Any Jeeva will have limitations. But even i want to revive lost Sakhas... Your method is good.. But i guess those sages are rare these days..

@TheDestroyer @Tezz - also that persons must have grt previous karma

@SwiftPushkar yes ..

@SwiftPushkar yeah..

@TheDestroyer - yes , very rare , cause humans lost their teja , good karma , devotion , goodwill etc in kaliyuga , so its a very very rare virtue to find among todays people

@Tezz I think this is destined to happen..

5:30 PM
@TheDestroyer what?... lost Shakhas?

@Tezz Yeah..

@TheDestroyer yes it is Destined... I guess that many of these lost Shakhas contained Vast ideas Science and Knowledge... and Kali caused those texts disappear... so that he succeds in his mission...of spreading atheism and violence...

@Tezz Kali Dharma is successful in making Mlecha countries superior creating multiple faiths and confusing people.. But finally every action happens according to Karma and all those nations will be wiped out due to their Bad Karma..

@TheDestroyer yes... all is Law of Karma... no need to worry...

@TheDestroyer - only shakas are lost not the knowledge, that mean only people who were reciting those mantras in those perticular shakas are no more or their group but the knowledge is present with supreme god , only he will tell that to some very selected few , who shows , some grt characteristic and do grt efforts , and grand wish IMO

5:35 PM
@Tezz Mass termination.. It seems Russia is preparing for world war 3.. lol

@TheDestroyer haha...

@Tezz I think this can't be neglected..

@TheDestroyer ... also... what is present condition of India Pakistan...?

@Tezz Pakistan got isolated internationally.. we are waging diplomatic and economic war,

@TheDestroyer oh ok... I fear of nuclear attacks....

5:38 PM
@Tezz - some tensions do arose during recent attacks , but its mostly diplomatic

@Tezz US needs India to counter China and India needs investments to create Jobs.. So, US is supporting India.. Also, Obama and Modi friendship is working..
@Tezz No.. Unless pakistan attacks India.. If Pakis attack first, Pakistana will be wiped out from Earth.
@Tezz If war comes, go to Himalayas..
:p

@TheDestroyer @Tezz - does the meaning of "Meditation " is different for diff. people \ religions ? or the core principle is same ?, i dont know much abt meditation , or how to do that etc.

@SwiftPushkar Do you mean Mediation and Yoga or just Mediation?

just meditation
@TheDestroyer @Tezz - whats diff. btw. doing meditation on gods name and chanting or Nama japa , are both terms same ?

@SwiftPushkar Mediation is just stopping thoughts.. sitting without thinking anything.. it doesn't necessarily mean to chant Gayatri Mantra or OM or Om Namah Shivaya..
@SwiftPushkar I think second kind is doing Tapasya..

5:49 PM
@Tezz I found a piece of evidence against the two Kapilas theory: vedabase.com/en/sb/1/3/10 "The fifth incarnation, named Lord Kapila, is foremost among perfected beings. He gave an exposition of the creative elements and metaphysics to Āsuri Brāhmaṇa, for in course of time this knowledge had been lost."
@Tezz Asuri is a shishya of the Kapila who founded the Samkhya school. Asuri is mentioned in Ishwara Krishna's Samkhya Karika, which is the defining text of the Samkhya school.

@TheDestroyer - oh ok - "Mediation is just stopping thoughts." i heard that :)

@SwiftPushkar generally in movies and serials, they show Sages chanting Mantras.. That is Rajasic or Tamasic Tapasya i think.. mediating on a GOD to get materialistic benefits.

@TheDestroyer - will take Someonce Guidance in that (guru) :)

@SwiftPushkar ok..

@TheDestroyer - ohh ok - "generally in movies and serials, they show Sages chanting Mantras.. That is Rajasic or Tamasic Tapasya i think.. mediating on a GOD to get materialistic benefits." 👍 got that

5:53 PM
@TheDestroyer "Mediation is just stopping thoughts.. sitting without thinking anything.. it doesn't necessarily mean to chant Gayatri Mantra or OM or Om Namah Shivaya.." No, it isn't. It's certainly possible to meditate on a god. Hindu scripture is full of Dhyana Shlokas for that exact purpose.

@KeshavSrinivasan Not necessarily... that is other kind of mediation..

@TheDestroyer And the Brahma Sutras give very detailed instructions on meditating on very specific attributes of Brahman.
@TheDestroyer Yes, there are other kinds of meditation, I'm just saying that not all meditation involves stopping all thoughts.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah.. even i say the same.. not all meditation involves stopping all thoughts..

@TheDestroyer And meditating on a god using mantras is certainly not Rajasic or Tamasic. It's certainly true that you can use meditation to achieve materialistic results. But it's also possible to meditate upon a god using mantras out of Bhakti, not out of any impure motives.

@KeshavSrinivasan @TheDestroyer - whts the 1 st step in starting of meditation , do we need to to do some sankalpa , mental /physical fitness before practicing meditation etc ?

5:58 PM
@SwiftPushkar read books of Swami Sivanada and his site.. The site has good info of Yoga and Pranayama and all related stuff..
@KeshavSrinivasan Again, i was not clear.. what you say is Satvic Tapasya.. for materialistic benefits and for destroying others it is Rajasic and Tamasic Tapasya..
@KeshavSrinivasan ok.. BTW, what does Brahmasutra say about Meditating on Shiva?

@TheDestroyer - swami shivananda , of devine life society

@TheDestroyer - yes thanks :)

6:14 PM
@SwiftPushkar @TriyugiNarayanMani Bye! GN..

@TheDestroyer - also you can add , his name and link in books abt upanishada , and bhramasutras etc
@TheDestroyer - yes , GN \bye TC :)

6:39 PM
@TheDestroyer good night

@KeshavSrinivasan - GD \bye :)

1 hour later…
7:55 PM
@TheDestroyer The Brahma Sutras don't discuss meditating upon Shiva. Meditation on the gods was mainly discussed in Kasakritsna's now-lost Devata Kanda Sutras, which I discuss in my answer here:
5
A: Why did Vedvyasa mention his shishya Jamini's opinion/saying in Brahma Sutra?

Keshav SrinivasanIt's because Vyasa and Jaimini were working together. Vyasa and two of his disciples, Jaimini and Kasakritsna, together composed a unified work called the Mimamsa Shastra, designed to analyze the meaning of the Vedas in all its aspects. It consisted of 20 Adhyayas or chapters: the 12 Adhyayas of...

@TheDestroyer But meditation on Shiva is discussed in the Srikantha Bhashya, the Shaiva Siddhanta commentary on the Brahma Sutras.
