@Shalvenay Shake your behind at me?

12:50 AM
@Asmyldof nah. I could run a dungeon for you though if you were up for that

1:34 AM
Noh. My imaginary bedroom friends are putting up a cabaret for me

Hi, Can I ask about esp8266 ?

@Shalvenay My thought would have been a small lookup table (16 or 256 entries) and loop over the nibbles or bytes of the input. But that option isn't given on bithacks. Any idea why not?
Oh wait, maybe that is what they're doing.
Or actually they're binary searching over the bytes and doing lookup in a 256-entry table.

I'm trying to design a GUI and I can't decide what to do with those RUN and STOP buttons.. Obviously it will either run or stop, not both.. So should I keep both of the buttons on the screen or make a big fat RUN/STOP button?
Or, maybe I should put only the RUN button to the right. When it is pressed, it will turn into a STOP button and I will add a progressbar on the left side of the button that will show up only when the thing is running

@abdullahkahraman Don't do that - makes it a pain if you register a "glitch"
Sounds more like "run" and "abort"

@abdullahkahraman Are you replacing some existing panel with mechanical switches? In that case I'd make it look like the old layout as much as possible.

@ThePhoton Nope, this is a fresh new design
But nice tip, thanks for that, I will keep that in my when I re-design an existing panel
@W5VO So you suggest I leave it the way it is?

What happens if the computer crashes while the system is running?
Do you need to have an external mechanical "stop" switch anyway?

4:42 PM
@ThePhoton Good point.. I will discuss this with the guy I'm designing the GUI and firmware for.

@abdullahkahraman ux.se

Wow, I liked that se!

Q: Should error messages apologize?

JoelFanWe are having a discussion on our team about an error message that says "Sorry, you do not have permission to access this feature. Please contact your administrator for assistance." Is it appropriate to use language of "apology" in this instance? The rationale against it is that it would be mo...

10 AM Monday, is it nap time yet?

Every time boss isn't looking is nap time

@PlasmaHH You're thinking of beer time.
Nap time comes after the 3rd beer time.
@PlasmaHH Also, my boss is on a different continent and won't be at work for another 7 hours.

5:29 PM
@ThePhoton so 7 beers

5:48 PM
@PlasmaHH 3 beers, nap, 3 more beers.

@ThePhoton Shall I quickly make you a SPISlave that stores commands and leave you to the rest?
I won't be testing it, tbh, because that's deffo not in my time budget

1 hour later…
8:20 PM
@Asmyldof So, you'll write code; I'll drink beer and sleep?
Seems like a reasonable division of labor to me.

1 hour later…
9:32 PM
@ThePhoton You see, what happened here, is that you just gave me a better plan

10:02 PM
@Asmyldof, got time for a pinmuxing question?
The port function multiplex table has columns A, B, C, D, E, F, H, I (why no G?). Do these correspond to setting the pinmux bits to 0, 1, 2, ... 7?
Nevermind, found where the docs actually say this.
...
Finally found the typo where I was configuring the pinmux for one port, but configuring the SERCOM that isn't connected to that port.
And it's only 3 o'clock, so I've got time to have a beer before the end of the day

@ThePhoton Some new code was pushed.
Didn't finish the slave, but got a ways.
Stupid documented coding cost at least 10% completion
