Q: VBA code - Store Row Number as a Variable

Jacob BischoffI am copying data, that is one long list, into an excel sheet and I want to use a macro to organize it visually. The problem is that the data I am copying has empty cells that are unnecessary and will inhibit my code later in the macro and I want to get rid of them. I was thinking that I could ...

@CaptainObvious shame it's not ready to be peer reviewed. SO MUCH WRONG with this code...

@Phrancis I've got 12 hours download time remaining according to my torrent client

It's fine. Reviewees should expect reviewers to tell them what's wrong... plainly. And reviewers should know that tone can be double-edged ;-)

Bonus points if you finally chase down a series of redirects and end up on some server somewhere, named after a flower, that was meant to have been decomissioned years ago. Double bonus points if you’re pretty sure it shells out to a Minecraft server in the process.

My little brother sent me a copy of Risk of Rain for my birthday.

@skiwi That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.
@EBrown That's Risk for when it's typical UK weather?

@EBrown nice

5:51 PM
@Mast Like going to school by bicycle is a "risk of rain" compared to taking public transport or your car?

@skiwi I was thinking more along the lines of this:
Risk is a strategy board game produced by Parker Brothers (now a division of Hasbro). Winning Moves also makes a classic 1959 version. It was invented by French film director Albert Lamorisse and originally released in 1957 as La Conquête du Monde ("The Conquest of the World") in France. It was later bought by Parker Brothers and released in 1959 with some modifications to the rules as Risk: The Continental Game, then as Risk: The Game of Global Domination. Risk is a turn-based game for two to six players. The standard version is played on a board depicting a political map of the Earth, divided...

Hello. I finally have a personal macbook :)

He probably means this:
Risk of Rain is a platform video game incorporating roguelike elements, developed by a two-student team from the University of Washington under the name Hopoo Games. The game, initially a student project, was funded through a Kickstarter campaign to improve the title, and was published by Chucklefish Games to Microsoft Windows in November 2013. OS X and Linux versions premiered as part of a Humble Bundle in October 28, 2014. Ports for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, developed with assistance from Code Mystics, were released on April 12, 2016. The player controls the survivor of a space...

yup. it's exactly that

It's a bloody hard game IIUC.

5:53 PM
@DanPantry, congrats man! I like macbook only because it has clang as official C++ compiler

@Mast there's easy chars and there's hard chars
at some point it only gets easier

@OlzhasZhumabek Anything wrong with g++? Humm?!

like when you stand in hordes of enemies, the game lags and you can see that your health still doesn't deteriorate because you heal faster than taking damage

@Mast, on windows? hmmm, no C++14? No variadic templates?

I don't use C++ but I do use Rust which uses llvm, I believe clang does too.

5:55 PM
that requires you to actually survive the bursts of damage though..

100% serious. I wasn't going to install SteamOS yesterday but my USB stick was bricked.

I run Universe Sandbox and Kerbal Space Program Linux-side.

I have my space key configured to insert tabs tab key configured to insert four spaces.

Both pretty hefty games.

@alpha You would either need to use the lambda directly without converting it to another type (i.e. the function that calls a lambda would need to take the lambda as a template-type argument), or use a different function-class (these are not too difficult to design, and there are various alternatives to std::function in the wild). — Kyle Strand 36 secs ago

so I used to use ubuntu... but it's basically windows with a different face. So I switched to arch recently and I'm good with that (after I got it to run)

Arch is great.

@Vogel612 I liked Ubuntu, I also liked Elementary OS
Elementary OS is basically Mac, but for cheapskates like me

@Vogel612 I like Arch, CentOS and traditional Debian.

I didn't say I didn't like ubuntu

Got to watch a video on Exchange Server. Be back later.

hi @SimonForsberg

Hello @SimonForsberg. Are you feeling better?

@Vogel612 Arch is complicated.... installing it was a nightmare.

^^

6:03 PM
you can put it that way yea..

@DanPantry for some values of better.

Every time I upgrade my Ubuntu I pray my videodrivers won't get mucked up.
Arch is worse in that regard.
But when it works, it's awesome.

lol I needed to revert my display drivers because nvidia made my screen flicker completely

@Vogel612 I installed it in order to learn more about Linux. I managed to install it and haven't used it much since then.

@SimonForsberg it's basically my main work OS now

6:04 PM
@Mast Do you remember when Windows was Plug and Pray?
3

Now it's Plug and YOUR FILES ARE EXACTLY WHERE YOU LEFT THEM

if only because I like how I can run arbitrary commands with a single keystroke

It should be mine as well in many ways. But I think it's more likely that I'll install Ubuntu on my laptop than continue using Arch.

I only use Windows for gaming and RD :D

@pacmaninbw I remember having to install my CD-Drive, so it didn't bother me much at the time.

I'm looking for motivation on working on my Monopoly implementation. Anyone got some?

@EBrown How's your Monopoly going anyway?
@SimonForsberg Is finishing it before @EBrown finishes his enough motivation?
Make it a race.

@SimonForsberg I'm just sitting here watching the sun go down and sweating because it's still waaaayy too hot... soo no motivation :(

I believe @EBrown got stuck with his statistics thingy for SE.

Yup.
It's pretty shiny.

@SimonForsberg I could lend you some of my motivation

6:07 PM
But we can't play multiplayer Monopoly with graphs alone.

@Mast I think I lost some motivation for it when @EBrown didn't work on it. We were planning on collaborating on it, I make the server and he the client.
@skiwi You have some motivation?

@SimonForsberg If you finish yours, he'll have more motivation to finish his and vice versa.

@SimonForsberg Yeah, I've got some of that stuff

@skiwi Where did you get that? Tell us, master.
Teach us.

There's a local dealer in town

6:08 PM
@Mast That's probably right. Then the question is what I should work on: Continue the server implementation or refactor the painfully messy game model?

Make it work first, make it pretty later.

@skiwi Is your motivation legal?

In the Netherlands it is :-)

@SimonForsberg Motivation has no morality nor legality

@Mast I also have a bit of that feeling.
Even my planned CR title should be enough motivation in itself to work on this...
(yes, I already know my title. It is that awesome)

6:12 PM
Keep that thought in mind.
Make it work.
Post it.
Get tons of rep.
And we'll take care of Mr. Brown.

guys what do you think about ubuntu vs centOS?

@Mast No one else working on it than me and @EBrown?

@SimonForsberg I don't know. Could be.
@OlzhasZhumabek It Depends(TM).

And those tools will probably run just as well on both systems.
So that's quite irrelevant.

especially if they're linux based.

Of-course.
You can't install Visual Studio Linux-side anyway and pretty much everything else is natively supporting Linux.
Except XCode, of-course.
Or whatever they call that fancy Mac IDE.

@OlzhasZhumabek How do you mean it doesn't support bittorrent? 1 and 2 seem to imply you can...

Hello @Caridorc

I have a small doubt, I found a typo in one of my answers but I feel bad correcting it and bumping my question for a one-character fix, am I overthinking this an should just go ahead?

@SimonForsberg Discrimination and double standards...

7:14 PM
@Caridorc I wouldn't worry about it unless the typo changes the meaning of the post, or if it's an error in the code

@Phrancis I think I will leave it like this because "menage" instead of "manage" is very understandably a typo anyway

@Caridorc as long as "à trois" doesn't come afterwards.

@SimonForsberg no it is more political than personal: menage external state changes

then it's crystal clear

@SimonForsberg I googled "menage" and realised it was household.
I googled "a trois" separately and it said "at trhee"
I was like, what's so wrong about that?
and then I combined them

7:23 PM
lol

I am actually thinking that the simile between political external state changes and variables state changes is more reasonable than expected, a class (or a function) is like a nation that should try and avoid modifying (interfering with) other nations' variables without their consent. Modifying global variables is akin to messing with international mettings / organs: very dangerous if you do not know what you are doing.

Though usually the freezing comes from JS-heavy pages that for some reason go wild, and not really the amount of tabs

@user2296177 Next May.
Middle of May 2017.
They want me for the "Oracle Cloud Operations (OCO) System Administrator" position.

@Hosch250 Congrats! Did they find you through CR?

And I don't even have any admin experience...
@SirPython No, they got my resume from somewhere, probably GoldPass.
GoldPass is my U's recruiter page.

What exactly does that position entail?

Uh, I guess it would be a typical cloud admin position, more or less.
I'm not betting on getting the position, but I'd definitely take it if they offered it to me and I didn't have anything else lined up.
I guess I'm getting much better at speaking. When I did my first speech, I was visibly shaking and my mind just went black--this time, my main problem was being too stiff and not being able to think very fast.

Why can't more job descriptions be this straightforward about what you're signing up for?
