@JasonC More than that, I'm sure, lol!

@Zaid Hey bro. It's well. I finished installing all of the trim except one piece, need to drill one bolt hole. Got some new door/trunk/ignition cylinders. Finish up the wiring this weekend, hopefully, then she is all done!

@JasonC I totally resemble this remark. But Bombay Saphire is not "coolant" per se
Tasting automotive drippings is a black art and never should be atempted. However, it's a quick shortcut for diagnostic information if one should be old and decrepit like me, and not mind a cancer or two. Everything in toxicology is based on dose ... you taste the drippings; not gulp them. Actually never do any of that. Leave such shadetree antics to the prehistoric knuckle-dragging regime...

Bombay Sapphire? Keeps me cool...

@Zaid Reviewing these old questions (properly, at least) is exhausting, heh.
The nature of the questions on this site really lend themselves to stagnating compared to some of the other sites.
And it naturally attracts askers who ask questions then stop caring once their problem is solved offline.

3:04 PM
@JasonC it seems like you're swimming against the tide at first but you'll quickly identify patterns
If there isnt enough info, bring down the close hammer
Ditto if the user is asking for the moon
Etc etc
Some questions are genuinely valid but remain unanswered

Oh I know all the patterns.
It's just this site in particular has a stronger tide than most, ha.
There's some great questions buried in here.
I really, really want this site to get out of beta, mostly because I really, really want to see what the design theme will be.

Ducati and I set up a chat room for the purpose of vetting questions for closure

I think we should shoot for an Icy Hot Stuntaz vibe.
@Zaid Where's the room

It's frozen now. Search for "Close Vote Café"
If you're game we can launch another campaign

I'm down. We can also post some guidelines we learn and general encouragement on meta, that'll get more folks on board. Actually there's a couple other meta posts I want to write as well.
Ugh and I still have to follow through on that low-beam/high-beam thing. I brought it up, guess I have to see it through.

3:17 PM
I'm curious to see how the whole canonical genre pans out

Yeah me too.

Someone needs to contact Seth or his team to thaw the room

I wish SE had a general system of drawing attention to FAQ-style questions without actually putting the question on hold. Like a duplicate closure sans closure. Feature-request time, I think.
Something more prominent than a comment but less restrictive than a closure.

Isn't that what the Related Questions are for?

Theoretically yes.
But you have no control over what goes there. And they're sort of relegated to sidebar noise.
SO suffers the worst from the Related Q algorithm quirks. meta.stackexchange.com/questions/223880/… (my bias against that list may be unwarranted on smaller sites, but that's the explanation for why I don't have faith in it)

In my experience it fares quite well.

 Close Vote Café

To place and discuss questions that look ripe for closure

@JasonC epic
@DucatiKiller hope you can pile on

Q: Can "hybrid" be removed/disabled from Lexus RX400h?

rbhatupWhere I live I've seen a few hybrid '07/'08 Lexus RX400h in very good condition. The reason I haven't looked at them is because I'm wary of the hybrid technology; I simply don't want to mess with that. Is it possible to disable or remove the hybrid from Lexus RX400h so that I don't have to deal ...

Heh

Q: 1997 chevy camaro, will not start, no noise.

jonathanMy car wont start, no sound, no click, nothing, but all power is on, and the remote start will strat the car, but not the key. what could be the issue?

4:03 PM
Woo hoo, my keypad has arrived. Now I can put off replacing the timing belt while still pretending I'm doing productive things to my car.
I feel like somebody's going to steal that keypad pretty quickly. I wonder if I should've got the behind-the-window touch-sensitive one. I'll have to find a place to hide it.
Maybe on the trunk under the spoiler.

4:15 PM
@Zaid Piling on
@JasonC @BobCross will find your keyboard. You can't run, you can't hide. You should have just purchased it and had it shipped to his address.

4:27 PM
As long as he doesn't steal my hood ornament, too.

4:44 PM
@JasonC I would be wary. That's a real gem.

@DucatiKiller I rate the threat of new software being written using this keypad as low. If nothing else, nerds get bored and would tend to abandon the gimmick for the next shiny after completing their first "Hello World" program using manually entered op-codes.

@BobCross Although I accept your response as credible I think there is inherent risk in @JasonC advertising that he has a new keyboard in your presence. Although the risk may be low, I see no reason for him to do this and increase his chances of a seizure.

Today, I'm further working out my Kalman filter setup (in a paper notebook! In pencil!). My primary control inputs include "gave me a bunch of sass." The output is a ballistic trajectory. It's actually quite complicated math!

Similar to a kinetic weapon orbiting the earth?

6:13 PM
@DucatiKiller that's my n=0 base case.
Simplifying physics problems is always so fun: step 1, remove Earth's atmosphere. Step 2: stop Earth's rotation....

Sensible, simplification through variable reduction.

Too bad @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 isn't here. I could tell him about the integrals used with probability distribution functions. They're the best. All the cool kids are using them.

6:32 PM
@BobCross yes they do :)

@Zaid and @JasonC regarding the old questions, I've asked many of the them the status of their issue back in December and January. If there is no interaction regarding the additional info request or status of the issue we can be fairly confident the question is ripe for closure.

@DucatiKiller it sucks that I can't access the Review page on my phone

@Zaid Windows phone?

7:59 PM
No. Android
It's not an operating system thing
The SE Android app doesn't even let you close questions. Only flags them

Imagine being a mod with that......the mobile chat makes me want to cry. I just got an iPhone 6Plus with the giant screen. Perhaps the screen size will reduce the pain level and I can actually chat with it.

Q: What can I do to combat wire embrittlement?

ZaidI live in a very hot climate where temperatures regularly touch 45 deg C and the heat in the engine bay area means that under-hood wires, especially the thinner ones, endure high levels of thermal fatigue. As a result, when working on older cars (10+ years) I am very apprehensive about flexing a...

@DucatiKiller You'll enjoy the screen estate

8:16 PM
The real estate is nice and I don't have to ruin my eyes using the baby one anymore.

8:40 PM
@BobCross - There's an old saying ... you can lead a horse to water ... Um ... I'm thinking that might apply here :o)
@Zaid - Can't you display this stuff through the web browser instead of the mobile app? Does that help anything?
@BobCross - Not that it's really much of a big deal, but thought I'd point it out. If you go to the user page under the month pic, look at the points for dlu (as of right now=2591). Now, go look at dlu's actually numbers for the month on his page and add them up. Somewhere around 257.
There seems to be a huge discrepancy there between actual and displayed. My points show correct, so it isn't completely broken ... just thought I'd point it out. I dropped a note in here previously to @JonEricson about it, but didn't hear anything back. Maybe this time? I wonder if it's all of SE having this issue or just us. Like I said, not a big thing.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Perhaps post a meta with a bug tag. That seems to get their attention.

@DucatiKiller I can do that ... I think ... how you doing bro?

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Feel the votes...lol
doing good, you?
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 working the unanswered cue with zaid and jason
just like old times

Is that you? ! ? ... yah, feeling the love!

I have an eddy in my space time continuum.

8:55 PM
There you go.

Yeah, twas me

Nice, bro! Glad you can be here.
I'm not here near enough right now. Been working a Calc course, but tonight's the last class ... doesn't matter, though, I'm doing the purge for a colonoscopy tonight ... no fun in my future.

It's temporary for a day or two. Monday, three project kick off meetings and back into the event horizon

Better you than me ... actually I'd probably love your job.

You would love it for a year and then the shiny would wear off
Just like anything....

8:57 PM
Being as busy as you would get tiresome, that's for sure ... I'm just talking about what you do, really.

yeah, it IS fun, I have to admit....your right...it's the time hole that you fall into that's dysphoric
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Can you throw a vote at this if you feel it's worthy? I get a badge :-)

Q: 2002 Yamaha YZF R1- Fault code 15

A. LenssenI have fault code 15 on my display. Checked the TPS, it has the right resistance on all cables combinations. Also correct voltage on yellow - black when its attached to wire harness and the ignition switch is on. Also measured the resistance from the wire harness connector to ECU connector and no...

Done
@DucatiKiller - I just really like doing SysAd type work, to include all the hardware and everything which goes with it. I often wonder why I left that line of work. Well, I know why ... it was because I wasn't getting paid on time. Going 2.5 months without an invoice payment kinds sucks. Not a lot of fun.

TY
It IS enjoyable work. I'm mostly a fan of the route/switch and failover solutions. LB's and what not

Kewlio
I was a Lead Systems Integrator as an independent contractor, working as a 3rd tier subcontractor to Lockheed Martin (yes, that's a mouthful). I was responsible for a 24x7 operation, with 9 Field Support Techs working for me. It was a good gig. I hated leaving it, but the wife got mad the timeliness of the invoice payments.
We didn't do much with networks, but we did everything with our equipment. Most of it was under a maintenance contract, but we still had to troubleshoot and order replacement parts. Doing NetApps RAID was pretty cool because they had the failover for the failovers ... lots of redundancy, so minimal downtime.

@DucatiKiller - As you suggested

Q: User Reputation Page Not Reporting Correctly

Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2On the Users page if you look at the points under the monthly link, it shows the points for top point getters is greatly exaggerated. Look at dlu's points, which is shows 2591 for the month, yet if you look at his points actually earned for the month, is something like 250. Here are some screen c...

9:48 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 no. Tried using Chrome on the phone but alas

@Zaid - Didn't know ... I know it gives you a little more to work with than the tool.
@Zaid - I guess what I'm really trying to say is, the app just makes us all feel like tools. I have a tool to fix it, btw ... it's called a 2.5lb sledge ... works every time.
