Anyone seen ChrisMcFarland recently?

A few days ago he said nintendo accepted his wii build, I think I saw him again after that too

I gotta give him shit for all my time wasted trying to get to room 60 :D

but I finally got there

Jon
the game looks beautiful
but ...
shallow?

DH.
12:09 AM
I don't the reason behind the hype in No Man's Sky
It's just an exploration game and nothing else

Jon
well it is pretty amazing
procedural universe

DH.
There won't be progression or any motivation to do so unless you're an addictive completionist

Jon
but as a game -- i am eager to see exactly how deep it is
the hype is gonna fuck it
imo

Sie
@Jon Skyrim 2.0
EVERY TRADE TELLS A STORY
aka filler

got my place holder currency symbols

Sie
12:21 AM
Christ felt like I just watched a trailer for Terraria rather than Starbound lol.
They look remarkably similar on the surface.

Isn't it made by the same people?

@Sie isn't that game by same developer

Jon
creator of starbound was artist for terraria.. tiy

Sie
No. Re-Logic made Terraria.
Terraria (/tərəriːə/) is a 2D action-adventure sandbox video game developed by Re-Logic. The game was initially released for Microsoft Windows on May 16, 2011. It was later released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, iOS, and Android in 2013, for Windows Phone, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2014, for OS X, Linux, and Nintendo 3DS in 2015, and for Wii U in 2016. The game features exploration, crafting, construction, and combat with a variety of creatures in a randomly generated 2D world. The game received positive reviews from critics, and over 12 million copies of Terraria were sold...

Jon
its better than terraria anyways

12:23 AM
@Jon ah, that

lol star bound looks exactly like terraria as if it had a upgrade

Sie
I know. I mean I'm sure they are different but my god if it didn't say Starbound in the title could have mistaken it for another Terraria update lol.
@Jon Good one.

if you can make a 5 minute trailer with unique content, then the game is worth buying.

Sie
qauntity =/= quality

also pls

Jon
12:26 AM
anways my gdse server is up
no one on it

lol my critique if a game is worth buying = (is Made by Dice) ? Yes : no

Sie
Skyrim was huge, literally. However that massive map and cool world didn't make it any less shallow.

lol I wish got into games like you guys, but I get bored with them unless it's a FPS

@Sie well yes
@TheMuffinCoder I was like that until I started diablo 3

Sie
I don't know I kind of have begun to like a lot of "walking simulators". Most notably The Stanley Parable and The Beginners Guide.

12:29 AM
@TheMuffinCoder a star spammer that starts when you say star?
2

LOL thats not me

@Sie yeah, I started with stanley parable and liked other storytelling games

Stanley has some good humor in it

good, not a bot at least

Here's evidence, wasn't me :D
LMAO it transitioned

12:31 AM
STAHP

the starring was like an animation, it went down wards and then unstarred going down

Are stars site-wide or just in this chat?

room-vvide
and my vv key is dead, I copy pasta

LOL, too much FPSing :D

12:32 AM
Remember kids, don't play FPS games vvith your stock laptop keyboards

oh shit, laptop keyboard, that sucks.

lol
I cant be productive on a laptop
I factory reset my laptop today and plan to dedicate it as my spritzlet reader

@TheMuffinCoder I can't vvrite code on gaming keyboards
they make too much sound

I use my DAS keyboard for everything :D
lol I don't even notice the sound when typing

I got a G710+, it's not too loud (relatively speaking)

12:34 AM
mechanical keyboards are rather quiet
I have a non-mechanic one, because I didn't release a game yet

Jon
depends on the cherries
some are loud

@TheMuffinCoder y u no steam anymore? :'(

lol anymore? I haven't used steam in like years
wait let me check when was the last time I logged in :P

it's never too late

G710+ is brown cherries with little silencing rubber rings

12:35 AM
nah there's really no fun games on steam

lol you have to get them first :P

such as?

Tallowmere

lol I got bored after 2 days

@TheMuffinCoder leave and don't come back until you play until you get to level 5 in gungeon

Jon
12:36 AM
poop in the soup

I got to room 60 about a week ago :D

no thanks :P

@Jon bad rats is better
and they just released a sequel

Every time I play a game I always rather play Battlefield instead :P
Or Halo 5 :3
lmao they got a plushie

I've checked G710+ net forums after buying mine, lots of people complaining about keys breaking.

12:37 AM
gungeon is like isaac but 10x more fun

key breaking in less than a month
I'm 7 months in and still no broken keys.. I'm thinking people rage-FPSing too hard...

@StephaneHockenhull Don't be so hard on them, I guess.

lol I sound like a negative nelly, but I didn't find Isaac to be really good :P

@BillyS oh, mine is fine. it's why I think some people are being seriously brutal with their keyboards.

@StephaneHockenhull I see.

12:41 AM
Unless logitech fixed their keycaps and just had a bad batch which I didn't get...

Jon
i just got a k65
its pretty gangsta

@TheMuffinCoder this plushie looks ready for fps gaming js

Jon
err
k95

actually I think the nonfps game I'm looking forward to is Forza Horizon 2

Jon
12:42 AM
errr
something like that
who cares

If you buy it for xbone, u get it for free on PC too

@Jon I like that it looks easy to clean the Doritos out :D

But what about mountain dew spills?

Jon
i dno't eat doritos

@Jon HOw DARE YOU CALL YOURSELF GAMER /troll

12:43 AM
@Jon pretty nice looking, but why all the lights?

@TheMuffinCoder good question, we should ask the Pope

Jon

Buys new keyboard everytime mountain dew spills

@Jon Oh

12:44 AM
wait see what?

Jon

I thought you guys were touch typers already and didn't look at the keys
oh lol

@Jon you just gotta gitgud and learn the places of keys

Jon
naw man
i like typing with 2 fingers while looking at my keyboard
its my style

lol I remember how someone 2 yrs ago told me in this chat to get Das keyboard without the labels

12:45 AM
@arda I use all my fingers, but still look. Everyone have their style.

and I actually did a year later :D

Jon
heh.. i was typing without looking in 1997
you young wipper snappers

@Jon IRC huh?
(as in internet relay chat)

Jon
yeah lots of IRC

12:46 AM
+ICQ
good old days

@BillyS I used to do that (until ~2012). It kinda helps with the correct typing rate.

I got a Japanese keyboard at work set to US mapping, the special chars are all over the place. Confuses people :D

Jon
IRC was fun as it was literally a war zone back then

e.g.: "(" is above "8"

Jon
channel takeovers -- and literally taking people's pcs completely down

12:47 AM
@StephaneHockenhull special chars having different places in foreign qwerties is hell

I was more on a meet-a-chick channel :P

@AlexandreVaillancourt where actually everyone was a dude

Jon
i had chicks in real life
spent my online time hacking lol

Well, it was the channel for my city, so not really ;)

^turkish keyboard :(

12:48 AM
Did you see the hacking competition here? hackatrix16.pyrotech.club

Jon
no

Sie
I didn't know they had competitions for zipping up files.

It starts on August 2nd.

@arda where is the fez key?
:)

@StephaneHockenhull Ctrl+W

12:51 AM
LOL

it is on foreign keyboards too- try it

/me has quit IRC ( Goodbye )

@BillyS I'm in

Sie
Why did Yahoo Messenger, AIM, and the likes die out? I preferred those to IRC back when they were still relevant.

lol aim was so much fun to hack

Sie
12:55 AM
Did AIM get hacked a lot? I never got hacked but sometimes you'd find spammers.

so many old programs had suuuuch bad security it was amazing to be a kid then imo

@Sie Everyone got on FB and Twitter and cellphone texts

Sie
Well the IRC still is somewhat relevant nowadays as are things like Discord. So there is clearly still some kind of demand out there for it.
Still I'd rather use SE's chat over IRC any day. It's just so damn smooth and nice. SE as a whole has some of the best web design I've seen around.

yeah, IRC is useful again now thanks to FB/Twitter
Eternal September could be considered over IMHO

Sie
Apparently Yahoo Messenger is still around in the form of a web and mobile app.

12:59 AM
Yahoo is still used a lot in Japan

Sie
So is AIM too.
I guess if you don't use Facebook or Twitter they could still be marginally useful.

They're an ISP over there and got a whole bunch of other things. Probably only reason they're still alive.

...or just text

Sie
True. 99% of providers don't charge anything extra for SMS.
@StephaneHockenhull I wonder why Yahoo hasn't tried to break into the ISP game over in the states. I kind of like Yahoo.

I need to make a se chat to sms system vvith raspberry pi
I have unlimited messages but limited internet

1:01 AM
@Sie too strong telco coalition

sooo people isn't cot60 = tan30?
so cot60/30 = 1?

Sie
Can two companies still act as a monopoly but together?

lol I think google is still having problems getting in

Sie: Duopoly

isn't yahoo kindof a joke compared to google?

1:02 AM
2 companies?

Sie
@StephaneHockenhull That's how I feel about some ISP's.

A true duopoly (from Greek duo δύο (two) + polein πωλεῖν (to sell)) is a specific type of oligopoly where only two producers exist in one market. In reality, this definition is generally used where only two firms have dominant control over a market. In the field of industrial organization, it is the most commonly studied form of oligopoly due to its simplicity. == Duopoly models in economics == There are two principal duopoly models, Cournot duopoly and Bertrand duopoly: The Cournot model, which shows that two firms assume each other's output and treat this as a fixed amount, and produce in their...

Sie
Two ISP's and neither one of them is a very good choice.

i know lets not pick either! :D
Force to live under a rock to bare lack of internet

lol muffin over here voting with his dollar

1:03 AM
ugh they equal to 1. so 1x64=64, so why can't I continue?

@TheMuffinCoder That's what RFC 1149 is for

lol couldn't I just move close to Mcdonalds and hog their wifi?

Sie
@MickLH Ya. I still use a yahoo e-mail. I haven't bothered to change because GMail now requires you to have a number (which is used up) when you signup and my old e-mail on my current Google account is from when I was a weeaboo.
Plus laziness.

@Sie you can use same phone on multiple accounts

In computer networking, IP over Avian Carriers (IPoAC) is a humorously intended proposal to carry Internet Protocol (IP) traffic by birds such as homing pigeons. IP over Avian Carriers was initially described in RFC 1149, a Request for Comments (RFC) issued by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) written by D. Waitzman and released on April 1, 1990. It is one of several April Fools' Day RFCs. Waitzman described an improvement of his protocol in RFC 2549, IP over Avian Carriers with Quality of Service (1 April 1999). Later, in RFC 6214 released on 1 April 2011, and 13 years after the i...
oh lol xD

1:05 AM
but yeah use hotmail/outlook.com

Sie
Eh. I like Yahoo Mail. It's not that bad at all and it works reasonably well. I don't feel the need to change it.

I use hotmail to sync all my windows/xbox stuff; gmail for everything else

@StephaneHockenhull I made sure to support IPoAC with my net library ;)

google is just so convenient and productive with Chrome and Google Drive

"An additional property is built-in worm detection and eradication."

1:06 AM
@TheMuffinCoder I use firefox and onedrive

lol I only use onedrive to sync my wallpaper between my desktop and laptop :P

Sie
I do wonder how Google makes money though. I mean I understand they have ads but does that outweigh the amount spent on YouTube, Google Drive, and all the other ecosystems they've built?

Every McD dumpsters would act as a hub but would cause packet delay.

yea they give so much stuff for free
but what if... google is just waiting for us to becoming dependent on their services? and then boom switched over to mandatory paid service

The free services google gives is to prevent anyone from getting close to them

1:09 AM
lol they have a counter for everything

it's a kind of moat around their profitable businesses

Sie
I think we are already there lol. I mean there are alternatives to their services but most are simply not used as much or second rate.

counter to IE -> chrome; counter to IOS -> Android; counter to dropbox -> google drive... etc

@Sie I think that the only thing google is in second rate is office, chromeos and google drive, with ms office, windows and azure/aws.

oh snap I forgot about chromeos

Sie
1:13 AM
Everyone did lol.

Jon
OH SNAP

lol just like steam OS

steamos is not as bad as chromeos

Jon
firefox os

at least it can run regular stuff
@Jon that is pretty good, tested it few days ago

1:13 AM
yea but so can regular debian distributions

idk about azure though, I seem to encounter drive more often :P
like, almost exclusively

@MickLH ah my bad

Sie
@Jon Oh christ. Forgot all about this lol.

not drive, google cloud

wait firefox OS was to counter android tho

1:14 AM
yeah aws makes sense

well I feel like android kinda beat IOS and definitely crushed windows phone

@MickLH azure is pretty popular too
for some examples: titanfall's servers, icloud, nbc, pearson etc etc azure.microsoft.com/en-us/case-studies

lol I wouldn't know the stats, I just mentioned it because it seems like when people go to send me a document they always just "throw it on google drive real quick"
I was talking about their user facing cloud services

yeah google drive is pretty popular
I found its UI bad and UX hard to use though

X <---> I

1:20 AM
I think that I typed correctly

must... resist....
a "proper" dubstep song is actually 2 different songs depending on whether or not you skip 1 minute in

Sie
1:36 AM
I can't wait for next term. I am just so flipping board.

@BillyS is the first step some kind of a part to send non-techy people away?
because even my dad can "hack in" to that
(he works on infosec)

man there's no single song that does justice, you have to hear datsik as the dj for it to make sense

@arda I doubt it. Anyway, that first one was really easy. I assume the others are harder.

not that
the hack part

@arda oh

1:51 AM
the literally ../rpass/tispass.txt thing

8 hours later…
10:01 AM
@Sie There are times I wish I had that problem..

2 hours later…
user92578
12:00 PM
@Sie Are you seriously asking that?

12:16 PM
Anyone here have experience in environmental 3D art and has strong opinions about 3DS Max, Maya, and Zbrush?

Sie
@PearsonArtPhoto Eh. Being busy beats being bored any day I feel.
@Tyyppi_77 Nah I was just screwing around.
@MattJensJensen I don't personally. However if you are looking to pay someone you might want to post an ad to reddit.com/r/gameDevClassifieds

@Sie No no, this is for myself, I've been doing my assets in Blender + GIMP for a while but I'm getting sick of constant bugs and regressing features

Sie
Ah.
I mainly use Blender but I don't use it extensively enough to need to switch just yet.

12:39 PM
@MickLH If you really need to transfer a variable frkm server to server, then it would be better to just use TCP, wich doesn't have packet loss.
Or you connect them with cables
