If all those memes are just things that ~3 users once talked about in chat a year ago, they aren't really of much sense at all.

If you don't have memes that the majority of the avid userbase of the site actually recognize as that, then such a memes post has the contrary effect of looking forced and repellant to people who don't know what the hell those guys are even talking about.

First community building, then you can talk about the memes this communtiy has established over time.

@KutuluMike Perfect example. That's what one single user makes fun of in chat alone. That's not a meme, that's just one person's joke.

@KutuluMike When they end up with an empty list or a list of things noone actually recongizes, then they are not harmless, as they look ridiculous and make the community look incoherent.

And if they do work they might not be harmless either, as they conribute to a clique culture. The site's community is not the chatroom and there are already sites that have to fight with the repercussions of a too chat-centric core community.

Want to do something for community building? Ask something that actually gives insight about the community, rather than just listing inside jokes from chat:

If anything, we even have a less coherent and avid community than a year ago now. So an inside joke post makes even less sense. Remember that the normal user doesn't know anything about chat and listing some cool chat inside jokes won't really help him when he doesn't care about chat at all. It's a meta post, not a chat summary.

@AnkitSharma Same thing, single joke made by a single user in a few chat messages (most of them today or this week). Where on earth is that a meme?

If anything, such a meme post is there for users to understand site culture, not for listing every little joke a chat user once made.
