so anyway, I'm blaming gpu accelration with xmir
[15189:15219:0611/204034:ERROR:browser_gpu_channel_host_factory.cc(132)] Failed to launch GPU process.
@Mateo ouch?
So my dad needs the IP phone accessible from his iPhone
it works, but no netflix :/
and iPhones don't have SSTP clients
So I need to see if I can get the L2TP VPN working
@ThomasW. OK, it's something with the router I think. If I set 192.168.254.121 as an alias for x-p-w.tk (you know what I mean :P), it works fine.
sounds like your router is doing host-based filtering as well
like an IDS/IPS
but there you go
02:09
It's a Linksys LRT224
know anything about those? :p
wow, i'm so psyched about playing aisleriot solitare on the ubuntu phone
@Zacharee1 No, but I make it a habit to avoid consumer-grade equipment nowadays
@ThomasW. it is an enterprise router
oh that's a VPN router
@Zacharee1 it's not one I'm familiar with ;)
02:10
what other x ubuntu apps should I try on here?
@Mateo ooh
@ThomasW. blegh
(VPN router != Enterprise Grade Border Firewall Router Device)
Shouldn't having port 80 forwarded make it accessible thru the firewall?
@ThomasW. it's also dual-wan
@Zacharee1 Not really
02:11
@Zacharee1 Because it has URL filteringt
grr
Dual WAN Business Gigabit :p
@Zacharee1 with a pfSense appliance, I can achieve the same thing, by creating a ruleset in my system's IDS/IPS to restrict requests inbound for HTTP HOST requests that don't match a set of strings I specify
so I know of it, but most 'business grade' things can cause issues
So I see nothing ^^
02:12
@Zacharee1 it's probably not on the General tab
but again, I'm not familiar with it, and have a lot of issues with LInksys equipment
well there's access rules and content filter
@Zacharee1 again, i am not familiar with the Linksys router feature sets
aha
I think I found something
While I know both of those, in general, each vendor has different rules
@ThomasW. I just like annoying you :)
02:13
"Port Authentication" on Netgear switches is "802.1X Authentication" on CISCO
and something else on Dell :P
@Zacharee1 aha!
I allowed port 80 from any interface from any IP to any IP
still doesn't work
so it should work
storming here again, a few days ago we were flooded
fun
@WildMan oooooh ya fur-bearin' critter!
@Zacharee1LOL
@Zacharee1 the was really funny. Thanks
:)
OK. This is really weird
Why does port 8080 still work?
But 80 is timing out externally?
02:38
Oh boy, time to switch to tablet and get a SD card...
I like my tablet but I feel less able to do things oon it
@Mateo I do not like when that happens
@NathanOsman where is the desktop file for nitroshare? it didn't seem to find it on install
@WildMan yeah... that and doing a chroot container with xapps on my phone...
wow, I never miss with my phone.
I have done chroot on my computer but it has been a while.
ooo, this could be awesome
will it load?
do you like to experiment?
02:45
super tux cart
huh
sound is loud but I'm on silent...
they really need to fix that one
@Mateo Is that Super Tux Kart?
looks fun
The color channels are inverted.
on my ubuntu phone
The Gnu is supposed to be yellow.
02:47
that is strange
Looks like the red and blue channels are switched.
lol
FPS ...
Are you playing with a keyboard?
um
I guess that is how it would work
not really "playable" at this point
Oh.
Too slow or too many bugs?
02:52
yeah slow and loud - no volume control
That game is not known for being easy on graphics.
oh, did you know where nitroshare installs it's desktop file
Should be /usr/share/applications/nitroshare.desktop.
I installed it for arm going to try it out on the phone
Should work fine. Crosses fingers...
I tried it out on the Pi so I don't see why not.
02:54
well this is libertine on xmir mir
it seems surprising what has been working so far though
hm, no egl on chromium
> Xmir :0 -sw -flatten -rootless --desktop_file_hint=/usr/share/applications/chromium-browser.desktop -2x

03:10
@Zacharee1 Name not resolved.
that's new o_O
it just times out for me
user139252
Now I'm getting a time out. Might've been cached.
yeah
it's weird
user139252
Did you need help setting up Apache?
Doing nginx now
user139252
03:12
Alright :P
:)
So here's what's weird
external: 8080 works
80 does not
internal: both work
router firewall's allowing port 80 incoming
But it just times out
WHY DOESNT IT WORK
the ISP shouldn't be blocking 80
oh no
DSL works fine; cable doesn't. No-IP must have been switching over to DSL when port 80 was working
03:31
No, I didn't.
@NathanOsman nope, won't install
@Mateo Any errors?
It basically says what i said (use the cloud images) but gives some minor formatting advice
dependency problems? let me paste
by minor, I mean easy
03:31

The manpage?
Weird.
I wonder if you could make it skip triggers...
and qt5
nitroshare depends on libqt5core5a (>= 5.5.0); however:
Version of libqt5core5a:armhf on system is 5.4.1+dfsg-2ubuntu4.1.
oh, this is all "vivid" I believe
Hrm...
Ubuntu Touch is on Vivid?
wonder if if could make it do a xenial container...
Once you get to Xenial, you can install straight from the archives.
@Mateo Does the application run though?
03:34
yeah touch is
It might have finished enough of the installation to copy the binaries in.
it is a libertine container
Though if it's complaining about Qt minor version mismatches, I doubt it would run.
I guess there's not much you can do yet then.
I'll have to see If I can make it do a xenial version of the container
Looks like you need the -d option when creating the container.
libertine-container-manager create -d xenial .....
03:37
ah, cool
Haven't tested it though.
I've run very low on space on the phone, will have to wait ;)
Did you see the new splash page? nitroshare.net ?
very nice
Thanks.
Wait until you see the new website :)
I bought a theme from themeforest to use. It's really sharp.
03:41
@NathanOsman nice! It's a bit odd though because the page scrolls..
03:59
Have you guys ever tried grepping for funny comments in source code ? Well . . .
find /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages -name "*.py" -exec grep -H insert profanity here {} \;
You'll find lots of interesting stuff
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/twisted/protocols/ftp.py: raise Exception("Crap damn crap damn crap damn")
nice
i like this one "Fix my stupidness“
”I don't know what these changes are supposed to accomplish but somebody told me to make them.“
@Seth Wut...
XD
That isn't supposed to happen...
@Mateo That looks like a really really good bad idea.
04:10
”I don't know what these changes are supposed to accomplish but somebody told me to make them.“
These are amazing
"Done, to whoever merges this, good luck."
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/twisted/mail/imap4.py: # Change this to "return 1" to wig out stupid clients
lol , this is awesome

I can't wait until Pokemon Go gets an open beta.
AHHHHHHHHHHHH
I JUST FOUND OUT THAT WINDOWS 8 WAS ENTERPISE D:<
user139252
@Serg I must not have whichever Python you have D=
ooooookay. So I was poking around the public minetest servers and I joined a survival server only to find the entire area, as far as I could see, underwater. The only parts above the water were a few wooden platforms and this:
O_o
@Seth Shall I do a clean install of Ubuntu?
Yes.
04:37
on my old HP
Ok
user139252
@Seth You found my server!
LOL
I can't tell if that was intentional or just the best case of griefing ever.
LOL
user139252
@Seth Why can't it be both?
Hah!
good point xD

08:38
good morning
@Videonauth hey!
how are you today ?
08:54
nothing much going on lol, just chilling
@Videonauth looks like voting is going to start soonish
when im right calculating it will be tomorrow
just looked at the last submitted question for the nominees Q&A and really I'm not sure what to make out of it.
yeah i saw that too
neither do i
it is pretty clear cut even for me
it is not really difficult to distinguish ubuntu from linux mint lol
my problem as a linux newcomer is more how to answer it, i know there are differences, but thats not gonna cut it
I mean i would actually not be able to provide valuable examples to fund that
good idea
askubuntu.com/q/785915/522934 mhmm i know this is a dupe but cant find a question with answers to mark it to
09:13
Hello ;D
there are so many steam questions lol
Hello @BhikkhuSubhuti you there ?
good morning Tuxie :)
Good morning Lion Candidate
@edwinksl exactly
09:14
:)
i wonder if it would make sense to merge them all
so much for arch linux that r/archlinux stickies a post just about steam: reddit.com/r/archlinux
we just need to find a canonical answer on AU and point all dupes to that
@Videonauth this is the most highly voted question for steam askubuntu.com/questions/614422/…
that one is for 15.04 but the error messages are essentially the same too for 16.04
yep flagged the new one as a dupe of that
nice upvoted your comment
yeah not the first one of this type today :)
luckily i have a script for that
09:19
it is weird though
just going through all 78 new questions which came in while i was sleeping
i think people who install the steam deb manually via dpkg from steam's website have these error messages
what is weird ?
i always do apt install steam and never had these errors
@BhikkhuSubhuti As the comment was not related to the question, I am answering to your question here.
I use [simplescreenrecorder](http://www.maartenbaert.be/simplescreenrecorder/) to record a video of a small portion & use ffmpeg to convert it to GIF image . `ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -pix_fmt rgb24 out.gif`

You might be interested in reading more about it here : [how-to-create-animated-gif-images-of-a-screencast](http://askubuntu.com/questions/107726/how-to-create-animated-gif-images-of-a-screencast)
09:20
well i had for example other errors with the version from the repo, and then problems with the one from steam as well but i sorted them myself
ah okay
so i must be the weird one
What the hell ?? why are my links not becoming ... single links ?
[Google](www.google.com)
shit
Whhhaaat O_O
?
how to do that ?
[Google](http://google.com)
09:24
`[Google](http://google.com)` ==>
[Google](http://google.com)
oh nice i didn't know markdown also works in chat
Oh... my `` are also not working :(
test
Ah.... @Videonauth
Its working with https
not http
weird I not used https in my link above
09:28
https-->Google , http-->Google , nothing-->[Google](www.google.com)
okay, both works now ... this is strange
:|
you need the http://
or https://
otherwise the hyperlink wouldn't work
yes . but its still weird , it works in comments.
@edwinksl why <s>should</s> it not work ?
for ask ubuntu questions
oh ok <s> doesnt ;)
09:34
@Videonauth good question, i guess i just never tried ;)
what was it supposed to do ? strike ?
yep strike through is <s> since html5
should
should
do triple dashes before and after
ok what your you calling dashes ?
WOW this is nice
09:36
uh oh the tux is getting the hang of it
html tags don't work here?
@jokerdino Hello :D

Could you please superping @BhikkhuSubhuti ? He asked me how I make gifs in a comment, and I answered it here.
@SeverusTux why not reply him in the comments or link your message here to him?
Both done. But no reply from him. He had asked it just now...,
okay.. he might see it later

Consumer. Running your own BBM server would still protect you.

Q: Grub menu on reboot after removing another distro partition

user3298319I just acquired a macbook air. I dual-booted mac os with Ubuntu. It is my first time multiple-booting on a mac. I triple-booted with another Ubuntu. Ater removing the third distro, I experience some issues with grub. First of all, I made my partitions as follow: $ lsblk sda sda1 200M /boo...

10:40
BTW about irc: if you were ever really interested I have a guide for Ubuntu and irssi
Which is what the cool dudes use :)
Oh cool at least I can bookmark it for later reading
Rewritten recently for xenial
I would ignore advice to go to #ubuntu: it is pretty feral there
Thank you very much, I might even press this on my site linking to this one
Link to your site?
@ParanoidPanda Hello :D. How did you add profile image to your launchpad-account?? I tried every way... it always tells me the image is not in correct size.. 196x196pix.
Did anyone else faced same problem ?
You run a home server?
I am too lazy for that: my site hosted on DreamHost in ?California
have to wait a year to dump two old domains i have and creating new ones then the site will move to a web-server
i see no reasoon to register two extra domains now and having extra costs
Which Linux distros did you test? 'How I came to using Ubuntu'
10:48
well i started with Ubuntu then looked at opensuse, and arch but came back to ubuntu then
and the ones i not find worth of noting like zorin, kali, etc.
New version of Slackware coming out over next few weeks which might be worth a look
I confess that I have never looked at arch or opensuse
:) when i have sorted out my video problem i might set up a vm to have a look at it, actually im looking into why some of my digizied divX .avi files show no picture only sound
strange thing is not all of em fail, only a few, but still a few to much :)
How did you produce the files?
on windows using dvd rip software and super for encoding
and on windows they play all well
OIC Looks like a front end for FFmpeg and friends
10:53
im collecting movies and have digitized them allto have them on HDD at one point and then conserved the originals
just not want to unseal the originals and redo all of them
Which codecs do you use to produce the digital versions?
This is my field of interest :)
oic
I am afraid that you cannot be a moderator and use divx :)
Joke!
xD well that was years back, im sitting here on about 25 TB of digitized movies, for self usage only
10:57
That is some collection :)
800 and counting :)
Any particular areas?
all areas in fact
Matrix movies?
will test later what hapens if i run those seemingly broken ones through ffmpeg and convert them to mkv
all from drama, commedy, scifi etc
oldest one is a VHS tape of robin hood from 1954
11:00
My colleague Fakeoutdoorsman is a great expert on FFmpeg. He is an arch user but has ties with Ubuntu
Posts on askubuntu
@SeverusTux check your picture exatly ;) it has to be 192 px not 196 px :D
Whooo hooo! Just scored the big one: askubuntu.com/questions/306929/…
nice :)
Sweated over the brace expansion
But time for sleep for me, nice to chat as always :)
Oops!. Thanks :D
But still its not showing my pic :(
Oh... Got it . Thanks :D

Q: Make terminal app not stop applications when losing focus

E. TimoteiIn Ubuntu touch terminal, when you run a command line application like vim or a long running shell script and you switch away to another app, the running application is stopped (like ctrl+z). This is even more annoying when your application comes back but the terminall is messed up. And your app...

Wow, really? That's awful!
12:11
Hey, I want to sign the Ubuntu CoC and created a GPG key using Seahorse, uploaded it to the Ubuntu key server and imported it to Launchpad.
But now I want to do gpg --clearsign coc.txt but it does not know of any key.
Do you know what step I am missing to get gpg to use my seahorse-created key?
whats the output of gpg --list-keys and gpg --list-secret-keys do you see them there ?
@Videonauth both empty
then export the keys from seahorse and import them
gpg --import filename
The .asc file?
12:21
@Videonauth Thanks, that did it! :)
np yvw even if you mean another competitor :p
cheeky grin
ow who pulled out? suddenly we down to 15 candidates
@TheBrownOne that's just python2.7 , lol. I think one can find a lot of fun stuff if one digs around the source code
@Seth Didn't you know that Atlantis was in Russia ? yeah, totally
12:42
@Videonauth So all I need to use that key pair on a different machine is this .asc file and my password, right?
Or can I even omit the .asc file as the key got uploaded to a keyserver?
no you always need the file for your private key, this is not on the key server
the keyserver only holds your public key
so for example i want to send you a encrypted email i can get your public key to encrypt it for you and youre the only one to be able to open
Ah, sure!
It's the first time I actually use GPG... :)
