@SmokeyMcSmokeface Aha!
When there is a lull of activity, websocket connection gets a heartbeat which used to crash Smokey.
Will fix when I'm done with the Tokelau article.

Makes sense. It uses a feed that sends heartbeats more often, it seems.

My guess is that NAA detection may benefit the most from syntax parsing, detecting the intent of asking a question.
Perhaps by analyzing the last sentence of the answer.
(There are rhetorical questions in answers, and quoted questions)

I'd need a good batch of NAAs to play with, but it'd be doable

So, what should we do to sanitize question titles in the transcript? In a way, this is SE's fault: the URLs in titles are only linkified in transcript, not in live chat.
But I suppose they are in no rush to fix this themselves.
A cheap way is to insert a space after https?://

Just kill the https?:// should do the trick.

@SmokeDetector \o/ No bad link in the transcript. :)

Many of the patterns are wide enough (consist of common words) that I worry about applying them to the full hostname. But something has to be done -- and now that we have tumblr.com link in this last post, which didn't match.
On one hand, I'll add webs and tumblr to blogspot and wordpress, which are already included as options in main patterns.
On another, erectile should be a bad keyword on its own, matched anywhere.

Maybe don't apply all patterns just yet, but "weightloss" is probably seldom going to be in a legit domain around here.

7:02 AM
Yes, weightloss already matches everywhere; it's a bad keyword without word boundaries on non-health sites.
I'll add erectile to the same list

Thanks for fighting the good fight. Good night...

Interesting trend seen at metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/graphs - after the big four (SO, SU, AU, Drupal), there are three sites nearly tied for #5: Information Security, Arqade, and Arduino. Not the sites I'd guess... meanwhile Personal Finance & Money faded out of the picture.

I guess the spammers don't have any more money to give out in loans.

Or they realised that the questions were getting >10 views before deletion, every time, no SEO ranking was gained it was not indexed, and the people who viewed it destroyed it
Thus, destroying its purpose

1:21 PM
The Money spam was mostly in answers.

I would agree with Mag's point more. Spammers normally stop when they see no profit they get even by spamming

There was a while ago I wondered why Drupal had so much spam (before I knew it was one of the world's biggest mysteries) and found it on a list of something like sites that allowed instant posting that I suspected spammers used, but have never been able to find it again.

But yes, they probably just gave up.
Drupal spammers never give up...

Drupal spammers are probably some underpaid day laborers
The money spammers were private loansharks
