Hi to the chat room for Pi
Would someone be amenable to helping this person out if we were to move this question to your site?

Q: Is it possible to use External Accessory Framework to make iOS device a console?

LotusHI'm trying to work out a way to use my iPad as my raspberry pi console/terminal when ever Wifi is present or not. There're ways I can think of: Use bluetooth network tethering to create a local network - my iPad is Wifi model, so not possible Use a portable 4g wireless router - extra device t...

It's not clear if this is going to be a simple software recommendation question (i.e. the pi is already set up on the network) or if the OP really needs to wrap their thoughts around how the Pi works as opposed to looking for iPad software/apps.

@bmike Hi, thanks for your help. I'm not seeking for app recommendations actually, I thought there're no available app that connects Raspberry Pi to iOS device, so I'm asking if making one is possible. Maybe it should be asked in stackoverflow, but I thought it isn't a specific programming question thus asked here at askdifferent.

Hi @LotusH
Wouldn't it be awesome if there were a lightning to RS232 type adapter :-)
From an engineering standpoint, there's no reason the Pi couldn't be loaded with code for peer to peer networking. The iPad / iOS would be able to hop on a WiFi network and then your app could receive whatever stream of data (console / ssh / visual) - but I don't know of any project that attacks your problem from that angle either...

Yep, that's my question here. As a rookie iOS developer, i'll try looking into the documentations. If I can make one, I think it'll help a lot, we can just take our Pis with our iPads and do programming jobs anywhere.

@bmike feel free to migrate it (and let the crowd tear it apart)

Sounds good. Once the connection issues are clarified, we could host a software / tool recommendation question that's related to the needs of Pi or that could go to SO for coding against iOS API/SDK if needed.
Thanks for the assist, @Ghanima

@bmike we'll see how it works out ;)

@LotusH: Are you still around?

Hey all, care to discuss the issue: meta.raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/730/…
@angussidney
@Jacobm001, @SteveRobillard, @goldilocks, et al.

I think it should stay as is.
It is a proper noun, and should be used as is. foundation would just be weird and confusing.
This honestly shouldn't have been closed as "unclear": raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/43209/…
It's very clear what he's asking, and while certainly an unpopular question, it's not wrong per say.

@Jacobm001 you know the drill, call for a re-open and have the crowd decide

I did. Though I wish it would let me explain why I nominated it ;P

I think that even re-open votes could age away

I actually don't think we have enough users to do a reopen.
It'll come down to whichever mod approaches it first.

@Jacobm001 goldilocks closed it
@Jacobm001 that's what I think
now we just have to convince ourselfes and the cm that we still need the tag at all (given its low number of usages)

11:21 PM
@goldilocks: I nominated a question you closed for reopening. What do you think? raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/43209/…
@Ghanima To be fair, I edit closed questions to remove the tag.
It gets used a lot.

@Jacobm001 so do I and others
@Jacobm001 but never right, that's the point of that warning thingy
to be honest when writing that post I was hoping that we would come up with other tags that are misused

Yeah, I honestly can't think of any others we need.
Our bigger problem is people not tagging enough.

11:38 PM
still we need to make our case for the tag warning for this obviously misused foundation tag (ten and seven votes suggest our community wants both the tag and the warning message)

agreed

@Ghanima I agree as well there are a few cases when it is appropriate - having said that they also tend to require some insight we may not have into the machinations of the foundation.

but we've also got IOT questions that we cannot answer ;)

The difference is the Pi-f questions are unknowable

unless somebody from the inside of the PF joins SE

11:46 PM
exactly and they are not our biggest fans

@SteveRobillard Any idea why?

now that jacob deletes or re-tags the last pi-foundation tagged questions we're losing our cred that we really need that warning
