@Federico How does this look for physical simulations? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Simulation_Library

@JayCarr pretty nice I would say.

@Federico the photo on the tweet is a notably different angle from the one on the article

I feel so sorry for the guys I didn't vote to mod. It's so hard to pick 3, you guys are all awesome!

1:36 PM
@kevin I'm sure they'll get over it :-)

2:27 PM
@voretaq7 Any chance I could get you to clean up the comments on my answer? I think we resolved all the issues: aviation.stackexchange.com/a/26347/511
@DanHulme I won't, I'll be crushed! My entire sense of self identity is wrapped up in this election!

2:52 PM
@JayCarr oh, um, in that case I have to go change my vote

@DanHulme Lol, either switching it to so I feel better or, more practically, switching it away because I'm a little obsessive and possibly crazy, eh?

3:10 PM
@JayCarr yeah, I was thinking of the latter :-)

3:39 PM
You know, I'm thinking I could be made to feel better if everyone would just go ahead and pencil me in as their 4th choice.
Granted, using a pencil on a computer screen is not the best of ideas buuuuuut...

permanent marker will do fine

but what if they write it in marker on the screen and then scroll to another candidate?

then he ends up as third, second eventually first choice, if you scroll the right way that is ;)

4:13 PM
I'm surprised nobody picked up on me calling the guys Kevin didn't vote for "they" instead of "we". I left that there for you but nobody took it.

4:42 PM
@DanHulme I thought it was just typical British modesty. Aren't the British typically modest? I thought it was part of the Magna Carta or something.

but this would be the opposite of modesty, because I'm assuming he did vote for me

..........this is what I get for trying to be clever before 1 in the afternoon.
To be fair, when I first responded, I responded correctly, assuming I was one of the "they".
Mentally I guess it just made sense that you were clairvoyantly aware that he'd voted for you (or some such).

@Simon I would like to avoid a prolonged discussion under your post, so I will answer you here.
My point is not that you should consider likely the possibility that the FDR readers will save the data in csv format, but rather that, given our lack of information, I would not dismiss the possibility so easily.

Said otherwise, you write: "Of course, the custom software which does extract the data might contain such a feature but then again, why would it?"
I would write: "Of course, the custom software which does extract the data might contain such a feature."

10:13 PM
@Federico actually, I have data to answer that...
dms.ntsb.gov/pubdms/search/… << the NTSB at least provides the FDR datadumps for dockets as CSVs...so I wouldn't be surprised if the software does the same (of course, the NTSB datadump from the docket probably has had the engineering units calibrations applied to it already, and I have no idea if that's done in the FDR readout software or in a postprocess pass)

10:53 PM
hey @DanHulme

hello there

@DanHulme man am I glad I revisited that question about getting raw FDR data....

yeah, which question is this?

Q: Is there anywhere I can pick up raw flight data recorder information?

MikeFoxtrotWe were plotting flightpaths as practice in programming class but unfortunately that was limited to some recordings from a research aircraft. I'm wondering if I can pick up the raw data files from (accident) Flight Data Recorders somewhere to see if I can plot them as well? (Like a file with r...

interesting
