... but i can see how to make it work now

@Oli I disabled the Privoxy, but now I need a VTC duplicate to test. =)

@Terrance should I just post one? :p

@Zacharee1 If you so desire.

you could also just open the dupe section on any question and see if it loads in

@Zacharee1 Let me try that.
@Zacharee1 Good thinking. I must still be tired because I know of that area, just wasn't thinking about it. =)

Oli
2:04 PM
@Terrance Pick any, just don't close it all the way :)

kos
@ParanoidPanda That hamster had no idea.

@Oli It works. It was Privoxy causing the problem.

@ParanoidPanda that's not as good as the one I found y-day ( nbcnews.com/id/8305836/#.UVt__leFWMV ) I trump you with 3 lions and a girl :+

@ParanoidPanda Maybe that snake has the crazy cat lady disease now. ;)

editted ^^ :D

Indeed. On a local network.

@ByteCommander sounds like fun

The target is a small server running a few VMs. Looks like it's horribly overloaded :-/

2:38 PM
You think so? :p

Yesh... Damn OSX.
It worked before someone booted that OSX VM.

OS X is worse than Windows
Even if it's based on UNIX

Hard-rebooting the server now :P

2:43 PM
OK then
How'd you find that?

@ByteCommander what's wrong with that? and yes I know what happend in the past, It could still be his actual surname.

user136984
VTC this Minty question as off-topic.

user136984
@ByteCommander: I don't remember what the policy on names said that I read... Not sure if there even is one, but I think that there must be something not allowing names like that...

user136984
The system should really detect them, but maybe there are too many possibilities...

2:54 PM
@Rinzwind I really want to tell the MC Forge asker that they probably need JDK to run it, but I don't want to encourage their asking here.

@ParanoidPanda : I missed the picture again ... was AFK ... :)

Debian/OT, or is it Ubuntu? askubuntu.com/questions/747137/…

@Rinzwind OK, that was funny! I almost shot milk out my nose when I read that. Simple jokes make me laugh for some reason. =)

3:10 PM
@Rinzwind Actually he catched my attention because he posted a spam answer consisting of the string ("heil" + [his user name]) repeated a few dozen times. So it's clearly not just a coincidence! :P

@Zacharee1 Yeah. I tend to put things like that in command but not actually spitting it out as such ;)
@Terrance now the question is: was it hemp milk?

@ByteCommander O_o

Yes.
@Zacharee1 I vote as OT.

OK

@Zacharee1 and then you get the occasional comment like this askubuntu.com/questions/746926/…

3:15 PM
who keeps upvoting posts like that?!

My google looks weird

@Seth Not me... this time
:p

@Seth which one? :D be specific! :+

3:16 PM
@Rinzwind you the one just posted in the message before?

@Zacharee1 <.< Really ? that message for me, a 28 k user ?

:)

@Rinzwind Could be! ;) If it is, I don't think I'm sharing. :P

@Seth Oh it was always on 0 for me. did not see it got an upvote D:
There I made it -1 >:D

3:27 PM
@Rinzwind you evil Nederlandse you :p

@Serg I read that as you're using a 28.8K modem, not that you're a 28K user. Silly me! :P

Wouldn't using Gparted here work, or do I just know nothing about RAID? askubuntu.com/questions/747140/extend-primary-partition
@ByteCommander they deleted their comment

@Zacharee1 Who? Where?
And I don't know enough about RAIDs either...

@Terrance i've never used any modems so . . . that also blew over my head :)

@Serg OK, that dates me then. ;) My first modem was a SmartData 14.4K serial external.

@Zacharee1 Sorry, impossible. It only has a card that connects with coax cables :-/

@ByteCommander do they even make 3.11 compatible WiFi cards?
@ByteCommander connect it to a BNC WiFi card then :)

A what?

3:40 PM
@ByteCommander A non-existent WiFi card using an outdated technology, duhh
The BNC (Bayonet Neill–Concelman) connector is a miniature quick connect/disconnect radio frequency connector used for coaxial cable. It features two bayonet lugs on the female connector; mating is fully achieved with a quarter turn of the coupling nut. BNC connectors are used with miniature-to-subminiature coaxial cable in radio, television, and other radio-frequency electronic equipment, test instruments, and video signals. The BNC was commonly used with 10BASE2 computer networks. BNC connectors are made to match the characteristic impedance of cable at either 50 ohms or 75 ohms. They are usually...

@Seth tell OP that it shouldn't be like that
@Seth Hang on, that link is to @Serg's answer right above

@Serg LOL, too funny that he links to your answer on the same page.

3:43 PM
wat ?

funny

Instead of a comment, OP accepted their correction to Serg's answer

@Serg he is linking to your answer in the same topic

I'm pretty sure that falls under NaA

and then accepted his answer D:

3:43 PM
Because it is a correction or thanks answer

facepalm that's just . . .

@Serg you should so copy his comment over into your question

OP and author of that answer are the same person.

@Rinzwind LOL I agree! :P

@Rinzwind which answer ? link plz

@Serg askubuntu.com/questions/746971/… I even added an image (but dont know who told me cuz the comment is gone)

@Rinzwind saw the comment. Considering the user asked this in 2015 i doubt they will come back.
There really should be something mods can do about accepted answers

3:51 PM
I still think that answer needs to be deleted

Didn't notice it was a link to an AU post. Perhaps you should flag it and explain? ;)

Problem is, i also have to finish my hashmap assignment

@Serg ugh

@Serg do it then
The X-Files just had a really creative way of bleeping out a curse word
It was over the phone, and one of the characters said "no sh*t, Sherlock," but the line cut out over the curse
static

@Zacharee1 the most creative way to "conceal " the curse words was in South Park's Wendy's Song . . . look it

South Park doesn't censor

Well they sort of tried in that song
sort of

:p

Oli
@Serg You don't eat or sleep or mow the lawn, you just .... your uncle all day long.
They deserved an oscar for that line.

Q: Listing available functions

Alexandre SantosI have a function defined on my .bashrc that allows me to mkdir and cd into a folder, which I call mkcd. I could write the same thing using an alias, or as a script. For aliases and scripts, I can find where they are with alias and which, so, is it possible to list all available functions? With...

user139252
@Serg South Park is foul.

@TheBrownOne Politics and economics are far more foul things than a cartoon with some curse words . A far more foul thing is how students after college end up with thousands in student loan debt, without any certainty whether or not they will be hired. A far more foul thing is tons of homeless people out there. A far more foul thing tons of people having no access to clear water/food , while tons of it being wasted elsewhere. Please . . .

@Serg Yes, but we can start avoiding with South Park :p

user139252
@Serg Yes, those things are also bad. But they don't come up in chat :P

@Zacharee1 And what does avoiding it do ?

@Serg nothing, just like watching South Park does

user139252
Instead of fighting, let's talk about something else

@TheBrownOne I'm being annoying, not fighting
:)

I am not even fighting \ (-_-) / that was just a minute of grumpiness

6:22 PM
@Serg You were fighting

@Zacharee1 aren't you always being annoying ? XD ( Kidding of course )

>:)
@Serg gasp

user139252
Did you guys see my Python script for encrypting/decrypting based on a Vigenere Cipher?

@TheBrownOne I heard about it

I am just constantly . . . how should i say this . . . perplexed by society. People are willing to spend money, time, and attention on such things as rumours and what's Nicki Minaj's new outfit or song, or what who where said . . . meanwhile , there's whole lot of things that should be addressed in the world

6:25 PM
I didn't actually see a product
@Serg Nikki Minaj gets new butts :P

@Zacharee1 Anaconda 2 confirmed ?

NO PLEASE NO (this is justified Oli)

mildly amused

sigh

user139252
@Zacharee1 You can see it in action here

KZCHD, keyword word
You need compatibility for spaces

user139252
I can add it in, but that takes away from the original feel of it :P

The original has no spaces?
@TheBrownOne o_O

user139252
Yeah, it was originally used without spaces

user139252
Spaces can help with cracking it

6:35 PM
really?

user139252
You can use common words of a given length to figure out parts of a key

ah

user139252
For example, if you see something like "HGT VFT UH YTTF", you can assume it's "THE ___ IS ____"

user139252
From that, you can use the square to piece together a possible key

hmm
Some people have a ot of patience

user139252
6:40 PM
It's what Alan Turing is famous for.

user139252
The Enigma Machine was basically a Vigenere cipher with a new key every morning. He built a machine to intercept the messages, test them against possible keys, and if it found a validly decrypted message, it knew the key for that day. Therefore, it was able to easily decrypt every message sent that day, including the one sent at night saying "Tomorrow's key is this"

user139252
That's how we won the war.

Well, I cannot find any command-line questions to answer right now . . . I guess I'll go get coffee or something . . . Low on energy today . . . probably ready for spring break

Q: How to prevent scripts hijacking your session's cached sudo ability?

Paranoid PandaIf I run a sudo command it will ask me for a password, however in that Terminal session for the next few minutes it will allow me to run sudo commands without asking me for a password as it will cache that I am allowed. This is good for convenience, and I find it rather convenient so I don't wan...

7:19 PM
@ParanoidPanda your question sure are lengthy . . .

kos
@ParanoidPanda Doubtfully... And obviously I guess changing the script to prevent this is not an option per the scope of the whole thing

user136984
@kos: No, not really, is there not a way just to exclude scripts from that sort of thing in some way? Or to run scripts through a different user but easily and automatically?

@ParanoidPanda you can exclude commands in /etc/sudoers . . . But you cannot exclude specific scripts . . . at least i don't think you can, since scripts are just collection of commands . . .
0
A: How to prevent scripts hijacking your session's cached sudo ability?

Mark SmithYou can run sudo -k before you run your script. It will clear the cached credentials and the next sudo will ask again for your password. Alternatively, do your sudo-ing in a different terminal - the credentials are not shared between terminals.

@Seth ^ copied my comment
Well . . almost

kos
@ParanoidPanda Nothing that occurs to me, there's no difference between a script or an executable for what sudo is concerned

user136984
@Serg: Can't it detect specifically when a user executes a command a more manual way? Or is there a way of making the two ways (manual execution and through a command) different in some way?

user136984
7:27 PM
@kos: Could you make it different though by adding something?

user136984
Adding another layer of checking or something which is run before sudo via the use of an alias or something...

@ParanoidPanda well, one could write a function . . . hold on , i will post something , let me know if that works for ya

kos
@ParanoidPanda Technically file the_thing_to_run, but to understand what the_thing_to_run is you would have to parse the command pretty much the same way Bash does it. How do you easily know what's the command in <<<foo >bar $(echo command1) <(command2 | command3)?

@Serg then why did you not post an answer?

user136984
@kos: Really anything though that I didn't run with sudo shouldn't be able to run things with sudo. Including commands. If they are only hijacking the cached ability that is...

user136984
7:34 PM
@kos @Serg: I've updated my question to include that as a specification because it's basically the same...

@Seth because i have no clue what panda wants . . . it takes time to figure out in the comments

kos
@ParanoidPanda Best I can think of is prompting for a confirmation each time a sudo command is about to be run.

@Serg then I don't see anything wrong.

@Seth hmm . . .probably . . .Nevermind . . .i'm overreacting
@ParanoidPanda how's a function like this ?
$ sudo_check testdir/myscript.sh
Its a script, resetting sudo timestamp
@ParanoidPanda still alive ?

user136984
@Serg: Yep, almost dead, but not quite there yet! ;D

7:43 PM
As soon as I leave it's Talk City :p

user136984
@Serg: Thinking about it though, it should basically just not allow anything to run sudo unless I've run it with sudo, so including commands too then...

user136984
Unless this is not possible?

@ParanoidPanda What I do is have my sudo have no cache time at all, i am prompted password for every command, and if want something extended, there's always sudo -i for root login

user136984
@Serg: Yeah, I've probably going to completely turn it off, but just looking for other options first...

user136984
7:48 PM
@Serg: Could I get it to check if I had actually executed that command and if it's not be to not allowing without prompting me?

user136984
Because for instance there is a log of Terminal commands, and commands in a script don't go into there so it must be able to tell to some extent...

@ParanoidPanda wait what ?
i'm having hard time understanding the last two comments, Panda . . .
gtg
will be back later

user136984
Ok

user136984
@Serg: Well, could I make it so that when I execute a command and it starts running it it logs that to a file (like is done with all Terminal commands though maybe a bit too late for this - with the history command) and then when sudo is run it checks if I executed that command in Terminal and if not then it is assumed that it's not by me so it prompts me for a password?
