12:00 AM
@JourneymanGeek I have the ancient predecessor, the Belkin N52te. Love it.
One of the buttons stopped working recently though. :<

Dang it why do I keep finding the answers to all my questions on stack exchange. Even ones about how to kill bugs
@bwDraco Someone starred my ghetto quad-monitor setup a few days back

I don't think my laptop's hardware can support four displays.

It can if you add a USB VGA adapter!
Which is what I did, at one point.

@qasdfdsaq I know, but DisplayLink is hardly an ideal solution unless you're on the field.

12:08 AM
Meh, it works.
Watching movies/Youtube videos on it fullscreen is perfectly fine.
I wouldn't game on it, but I only use it for my fourth, 1280x1024 monitor. Also the USB 3 ones are considerably better than the USB 2 ones.

I have an inexpensive DisplayLink display (15.6" TN, 1366x768), but that's only used in serious projects where I need the extra monitor to work with on campus because it's an older USB 2.0 model. Besides, the DisplayLink driver doesn't play nice with (at least some) full-screen games.

The top one is the one I temporarily used the USB adapter on.
Oh hey, I just noticed there's the PIN letter for my new online banking service on the table in that picture
Thankfully you can't see anything useful, but I'm a bit gutted it took me that long to notice, in case it had...

I could look into replacing it with the ASUS MB169+ (15.6" IPS, 1920x1080, DisplayLink USB 3.0), but I'm not going to spend $200 to upgrade that little-used display.

Oh is it one of those where the USB interface is built into the display and that's the only available interface?
Mine's just a standard USB adapter you plug any VGA monitor into. When I upgraded to my current mobo I just plugged it back into my onboard VGA

12:15 AM
Urgh. Too neat!
Need to clean my desk and take a better picture

It's messier now, but not as messy as yours :P

loool
In theory I can fit erm...

I was in the process of cleaning my desk anyway
I've just been unsuccessful at it for about... five months

another 2-3 monitors + 2 more on onboard video card
I'd need a bigger boat desk tho

So the internet is swooning over Justin Bieber now having "purple hair"

12:16 AM
Who?

@qasdfdsaq You're supposed to memorize it and destroy the letter.

@qasdfdsaq who?

I don't keep my PIN letters as a matter of security.

I immediately change mine

12:24 AM
are we seriously talking about pop stars here lol

@qasdfdsaq seems to be

@bwDraco Nah I'm meant to enter it online then change it to something else, but I was waiting for the second part of the details first
@PatoSáinz Well I have to take my mind off her somehow
Got something better to talk about? Nobody seemed really interested in talking about burgers
Although onion rings garnered a couple responses
And you never responded to my criticizing your choice of network cabling.
Dammit I have fossilised algae on my Bluetooth speakers

Bob
O_O

@qasdfdsaq well I'm still battling with the DRBD patch

12:41 AM
Well if you're too busy to contribute don't blame me for regressing into bieber fever-ism

1:34 AM
Hm.

Okay. So I happen to have an extra Steam license of Serious Sam 3: BFE available to give (it was a pre-order bonus for The Talos Principle). So, if anyone has an extra copy of Dying Light available, I can trade it out...
Otherwise, that license is just sitting there as I already have SS3.

2:04 AM
Lots of beagles at the dog park today.

Alright, I'm not going to be trading yet.
I'll look into the game a bit more, though.

2:28 AM
@JourneymanGeek Are you more attracted to humans or beagles?

2:49 AM
@qasdfdsaq humans? :p

2:59 AM
Now that's confusing

@Bob funny thing is I'm nearly in the same place in SCL Single player and multiplayer

Bob
@JourneymanGeek oh, so no more early knowledge from you? :P

not for now ;p

9:27 AM
@bwDraco Due to proximity of monitors I am sure your eyes are on strain.

5 hours later…
Bob
2:33 PM
Hm. Ow.
Sliced my finger open pretty good with a paint tin lid :\

this sorta thing happens to me a lot ;p

@Bob Oh dear. I usually do that on my kitchen knives just after they been sharpened :/

3:43 PM
@Bob I sliced mine open a while back with a pair of scissors. Nice deep cut.
Flatmate helped me superglue it back together

@qasdfdsaq heh I was cutting towards myself with an x-acto knife while splicing a cable

Anonymous
that's been my worst thumb cut

Anonymous
@Boris_yo I'm kinda close too and yea it strains a bit

Anonymous
but it's better to be close and have screen real state than to have to zoom in

5:16 PM
@Boris_yo I've actually moved the monitors apart a bit since that picture was taken.

@JourneymanGeek
@Bob
@allquixotic
I hereby nominate you all for the Messiest Desk award.
Because MINE IS CLEAN.
THERE, YOU CAN ALL STOP MAKING FUN OF ME FOR HAVING THE MESSIEST DESK NOW.
I've even aligned, de-gapped, and spirit-levelled all my monitors.

5:41 PM
wtf. The Visual Studio Update removes the Git for Windows that I installed?
@qasdfdsaq Alright. Well done. Let's move to the next room

LOL

Was thinking about this: If Apple is using 9-wide issue, 6-wide decode (desktop-class) processor designs in their ARM processor designs, why aren't Qualcomm et. al. doing the same?
(For comparison, Haswell and Skylake are both 8-wide issue, 4-wide decode.)
Apple Cyclone (A8) block diagram.
AMD Zen is expected to be 10-wide issue, 4-wide decode.
ARM Cortex-A72 is 8-wide issue, 3-wide decode.
Folks, this is the main reason Apple processors are so fast even at low clock rates.
Then again, the complexity of the Apple cores means that Apple seldom puts more than two cores in their processors. (The A8X had three cores, but the A9X [Twister] has two cores at much higher clocks.)
The same issue of complexity comes into play with NVIDIA's largely unsuccessful Denver VLIW core.
The 64-bit Tegra K1 relies on an evolved form of Transmeta's code-morphing technology, called Dynamic Code Optimization, and is internally 7-wide VLIW.
DCO optimizes the code at runtime through operations like loop unrolling and stores the result in a 128MB cache in main memory.
When DCO works as designed, Denver can be extremely fast, but applications that haven't run before fall back on the much slower hardware ARM decoder until they are optimized.
...and I suppose the problem is the die space required by these wide CPU designs.
The die space required by the Cortex-A72 is far less than the die space required by Cyclone.

@qasdfdsaq my workspace is my bedroom, and I'm starting to need some extra space. I have a lot of tidy desk space because all of my storage is done in shelves and cabinets and they are messy

Hello, all. I am using Virtual Box --- Windows host, Xubuntu vm. Periodically the VM loses internet connection. (Especially frustrating when trying to push to git) However, my windows host does not lose connection. I am wondering if I need to change NAT settings or dedicate another core to the VM

Anonymous
@HunterStevens look through VirtualBox's logs and/or try other network setting: I like bridged adapter

Anonymous
@PatoSáinz I am trying that now. Will report if I get any issues (usually can see them in a couple minutes). I also selected 4 cores for my vm

Anonymous
8:26 PM
Update: I changed the settings but did not restart the vm. Still getting the issue. Going to restart the vm and see what happens

@PatoSáinz what's that alcantara acceso? is that a list of clearances?

8:45 PM
Wow. This was what I sang more than 12 years ago for Christmas while I was in elementary school.
For some reason, I always thought it was Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
The original lyrics printout came from zepperfan.tripod.com/Christmas_In_Killarney_lyrics.txt

Anonymous
@allquixotic yes

Anonymous
I work as a photographer too sometimes

...and the printout had the highlighting that indicated that I was supposed to sing (which included the chorus).

@bwDraco Now I'm going to be disappointed if this song doesn't sound like those lyrics sung to the tune of Rudolph. :(

9:10 PM
@PatoSáinz lol fake piano

Anonymous
@qasdfdsaq how is it fake?

@PatoSáinz I'm guessing because it's a keyboard and not a piano.

Anonymous
@MichaelFrank well technically it's a digital piano

Anonymous
digital piano != keyboard

9:23 PM
I would've called it an Electric Keyboard, but I guess Digital Piano could work.
But hey, it's your piano. :)

Bob
9:42 PM
Welp

Anonymous
@MichaelFrank hahaha well that's the search term you have to use to find a keyboard that tries to accurately mimic an acoustic piano

Absolutely unbelievable. I never thought it was Christmas in Killarney.

So I ran into something similar with GWX. My parent's PC has Win 7 on it, and they're kinda adverse to change (especially my Father). I figured I'd run the pre-load of Win 10 so when they do decide to update it's ready and waiting.

WRONG!

Downloading and selecting "Install later" gives you the option of deferring the install for up to 4 days... with no option to cancel the update.

I remember rehearsing it day-in, day-out, in preparation of the class concert.

@Bob There's a book on that: How to Lie with Statistics.
Statistics are supposed to make something easier to understand but when used in a misleading fashion can trick the casual observer into believing something other than what the data shows. That is, a misuse of statistics occurs when a statistical argument asserts a falsehood. In some cases, the misuse may be accidental. In others, it is purposeful and for the gain of the perpetrator. When the statistical reason involved is false or misapplied, this constitutes a statistical fallacy. The false statistics trap can be quite damaging to the quest for knowledge. For example, in medical science, correcting...
There's a lot of disdain for statistics by the public because of this misuse.

Yum...?
How it was advertised.

Bob
11:40 PM
@MichaelFrank Heh. It's not bad.
Though I preferred the cheese+bacon over the guac+salsa. Salsa on chips is weird.

It was nice, but completely inadequate for what the price was.

Bob
Yea, price was a bit steep.

Oh, that was the 'share' box as well.

11:58 PM
I have just been restarted! This happens daily automatically, or when my owner restarts me. Ready for commands.
