@RegDwigнt This Kissinger guy goes to lots of funerals.

user174558
@Cerberus Yes, this room should be deleted.

4:47 AM
@RegDwigнt That's great.
I had no idea Kissinger was still up and about.
His accent is a little bit odd sometimes.
But it is a good eulogy.

12 hours later…
4:33 PM
@RegDwigнt Are you going to hang out in here now?

I'm not exactly hanging out anywhere.
I do have this here window open.

Are you OK?

I am OK.

I'm sorry you got hammered. I pinned your message about not flagging old shit.
I don't think that was fair.

I don't think it matters who thinks what, or at all.
Actions, louder, yada yada.

4:39 PM
Yeah, I thought you might say that.
I also figured your feelings were probably pretty hurt, and that you wouldn't want to talk about it.

My feelings are not hurt. My brain is.

I see.
Do you want to talk?
I'd suggest the mod room, but I don't know if you want to go there.

Well I gotta commute in about 20 mins.
But apart from that I'm not quite sure what I can talk about. It's all laid out fine. There is nothing much to be said, only looked at.
This is common knowledge. Has been for years upon years.

Yes, about every six months it seems.
And we never seem to adjust our behavior, although the situation is entirely predictable.

When a room is moderated 24/7, and has five mods in it, it does not need a drive-by moron to go HURRRRR IMA MODDDDDDA TO and randomly delete shit.
I have adjusted my behavior now.

4:45 PM
@RegDwigнt You didn't hear about SFF? This was all collateral from that.
This had nothing to do with us.

I don't give a shit who SFF is.
I will not be collateral to anything. I have better things to do with my life.

I'm talking about the SFF chat room closure. And you should give a shit because that's what caused the issue.

Hm.

A lot of pissed off people looking to get vengeance on mods.
Specifically mods. That's why the transcript search.

This is not about people looking to get vengeance on mods. This is about mods getting vengeance on mods.
My messages were not deleted by "people". They were deleted by mods.

4:48 PM
Who? Who has a bone to pick with you?

It's not that they have any bones. It's that they have no brains. As I said earlier.
These are not people with an agenda.
These are human captchas.
They see someone flag a message talking about the Titanic, and delete it because it contains the word "tit".

Well, I didn't see the composition of the audience, so I can only take your word for it.
I saw just one flag, of all the flags.
And it wasn't a mod who raised it.

That is all they do. They specifically do not think "oh hey there's that asshole Reg, I'll get sweet revenge on him". No. They don't think, period. They are just human captchas.
@KitZ.Fox er. I think we're talking past each other here.

OK.

Anybody can raise a flag, anywhere. But only a mod can actually act on it.

4:52 PM
Or anyone with 10K combined across sites.

Well yes.
Though in at least one instance it was a mod. It's in the Teachers' Lounge transcript.

So when you have 6 votes on your flags, you know it wasn't a mod who validated it.

I can't see votes on my flags.

I disagree with how the situation was handled. The room should have been frozen, in my opinion.
@RegDwigнt Oh?

Yes.

4:54 PM
@RegDwigнt Then why didn't you do that?

Hindsight is 20/20.
I didn't freeze it because I wanted to chat. Like I always do. And so wanted others.

Well, technically you could have continued to chat.

There were enough people to have a civil chat with one another, and enough people actually having it.

Transcript looks like the situation broke down fast.

@KitZ.Fox yes. Shoulda freezed it, kicked everyone out, and kept talking to myself.
As I said, hindsight is 20/20.

4:56 PM
@RegDwigнt Or all the other mods hanging out in there.
@RegDwigнt I get it. Now we know for next time.

@KitZ.Fox that is a wrong impression, then.
My first message got deleted a couple days prior. Or maybe even a week.

So what started the fire?

I don't think anything "started" a "fire".
I can link to my first message that got deleted, if that's what you want.
So that's like 2 weeks ago now.

EL&U chat wouldn't be in the state that it is in if there weren't a fire. I didn't get called back for status quo.

I don't know what state the EL&U chat is in. I haven't visited in five days.

5:00 PM
And your message wasn't deleted by a bot. Feeds is always the attribution for the flag process.

Yes I know that now.

@RegDwigнt Right. I know.

And that's another thing that needs fixed if you ask me.

So you know who to be angry at?

No. So people start thinking, reading, and looking before clicking a fucking button to delete a message by a mod.

5:02 PM
I don't think mod status confers any special protections.

It's not about special protection. sigh
Go ahead delete every message of mine, I do not care. That is not what this is about.

It's that you specifically mentioned "by a mod" up there.
But tell me what this is about.
I want to understand your thought process.

Yes. Because the way it ended was that a mod posted rules of conduct, and since he was a mod they presumably should have been paid attention to, rather than deleted by a drive-by stranger.
What do we need rules of conduct for if anyone can just delete them thirty seconds after they get posted.

I'm not following. Where/when were the rules posted?

@KitZ.Fox it's basically the same thing rchern once said, like four years ago. You can put a mod on ignore. It's just not very wise.
Same with deleting messages of theirs.
@KitZ.Fox I said, "if I come in here and you call me a fag, that's one thing; but if I come in here and you are talking about kittehs, and I specifically search the transcript for mentions of fags, that's a whole nother story, and if I'm offended at specifically finding what I'm specifically looking for, that's my own fault".
Something to that effect. And it got deleted. Because it used the word fag.
But I must run.

5:11 PM
@RegDwigнt Well, it's a bit unclear that you intended that as rules of conduct. I think "Nobody is under no obligation to read the transcript. So don't flag shit from five years ago." is a lot clearer.
@RegDwigнt see you later, I hope.
