I think this is the best paragraph of advice on job searching I've seen yet:
> In response to your question of whether you should be angry, I’d say that you don’t get anywhere by being angry in a job search. Take in all the information you’re receiving about an employer treats people, but don’t get angry. Use that information to make good decisions for yourself. Maybe in this case you decide that this woman is flighty and you wouldn’t want to work for her. Or maybe you decide this was bad luck, or even a miscommunication, and that you’re open to future jobs with them.
> And always, always assume you don’t have an offer until you’re reading it in writing.

@Codingo The specifics may be different but the general question (and therefore the answers) are largely the same. Agree with the duplicate. Perhaps a canonical "How and when do I follow up?" question might be a good idea though. — Lilienthal 11 secs ago
Anyone up to creating one? :)

@enderland hey, what's up?

@AaronHall how's it going

Reading the source code for IDLE, thinking about how I want a couple of glue functions to work and how to document...

@Lilienthal I'm happy to spend the time to do it, I use workplace q&a to improve my writing so longer items work well. What's the process typically? Just create a new question with all of the details and an appropriate title?
@AaronHall Python developer?

@Codingo Admittedly, I don't rightly know. I did it for the Letter of Recommendation question which seemed to work well enough. In this case, perhaps we'd need a bit of a discussion meta or chat first to see if it's worth doing and how to go about it.
Considering that there are a few questions that already come close in scope.
If we made a canonical question, they'd have to be closed as duplicates of the new one.
Frankly, I'd probably want an okay from @enderland or some of the other mods, or a meta thread to okay it to avoid close votes and downvotes.
In fact, it might be an idea to start a meta thread collecting ideas for canonical questions, since there are a few others that might be useful.

Q: How to motivate people to participate in a company hackathon?

JohnSomeoneI'm working for a software company where I'm taking part in the committee organizing an internal hackathon. I'm not a manager. Ideas I suggest are discussed by the committee and if we agree they are good, we try to make them happen. What I am looking for is basically advice on how to get people ...

Color me surprised.
There are plenty of people commenting that a 24-hour (unpaid) work event is a bad idea.
But no downvotes to punish the person asking.
Is the community learning? :)

A: Workplace tactics for developing discipline?

Gonzalo.-Since is my first answer I want to expand a little bit my comment. What I've tried since a few weeks ago is setting my self objectives, and use techniques for time management. If you can schedule that it works pretty well. I use that when, for instance, I have to prepare an exam and I need to st...

This is genius

@Lilienthal Ok. I'll start with the meta thread - unless you would like to since your idea? Will leave it an hour to give you a chance to do it in case you'd rather be the one to drive it forward.

@Codingo Nah man, go ahead
Take charge
(less work for me)
:)

haha
No worries - 10am budget meeting (oh yay...) so I'll action after.

meta is all about community agreement after all and it's not like I care about the rep or brownie points
Ah right, Australia isn't it?
I guess the name kind of gives it away.
Well I don't know about you but I'm going to get some sleep, take care. :)

Have a good night!
