@Todd now that luscus runs, avogadro and gabedit refuse to open

bummer - no ideas on that one...

seems to be some problem with opengl

maybe conflicting versions of gl libs for them...if so, it's not a trivial fix

it might have started after the libglext stuff ... though, I'm not sure

yeah that might be the culprit - trying to reproduce your error although i'm on ubuntu 12.04 LTS right now

1:08 PM
it might also be sth with gtk-2
why can't it simply work? ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

eh, nothing ever works

Loong has unfrozen this room.

hmmmm
you're running a virtual machine?

9 messages moved from The Periodic Table

1:17 PM
yes
wait ... maaaybe
I changed sth about the virtual machine

ok, you allocate more memory there?
thanks @Loong for moving the stuff over here

@ToddMinehardt I'm not sure what you mean ... what I was thinking now, was that I enabled "3D acceleration" maybe this changes sth

ah, ok, yeah that might do it

lol ... this is fancy
now avogadro opens but complains about 3D acceleartion has not been enabled ... xD

haha - you win some, you lose some :)

1:21 PM
hell ... what a mess

yeah - i wish i had more to offer in the way of help - i have avogadro and gabedit both running under 12.04, but did not get luscus to compile
one reason, on my end, is that sourceforge is actually a blocked website by IT, so i cannot grab 0.8.1 right now

ok
I can find a solution for that ...

sourceforge serves binaries over http (not https), so it gets flagged by IT as insecure (which is not unreasonable)

gracias
ok, that complied fine. so i installed avogadro and gabedit via synaptic, so they work. and luscus fired up fine - i'm guessing it's something to do with the 3d acceleration

1:28 PM
probably .. but I'm not going to dual bott it here as I need my windows Q_Q

luscus is pretty nice - good graphics

linux at work is ok ... I am getting used to it ... but at home, I don't really need that stress :D

i hear that :)

it's esp. for molcas, as it's hard to chosse proper orbitals for the active space and molcas only allows 8 orbitals to change at once ... with this program there is no need for the manual orbital changing in the input file

ah ok - makes sense

1:31 PM
I found a funny small algorithm that I changed a little
there are many sorting algorithms that are quite fast, etc
but there are not many, which can sort many items which very few steps

yeah, sorting is one of those coding things people are always trying to improve

that algorithm seems to make sense in times of SSDs where less byte changing is better ^^

hey i gotta run - i actually have some work to do for a bit :) - catch you later

then drink coffee work!
thx for your help ♥
