12:00 AM
re played some of em a lot too
like RE 4

I haven't finished any yet. I have a playlist consisting of Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion. (Just the two right now.)

actually, I think I just played Metroid Prime and Echoes (basically the sequel)
I don't recall playing Corruption now that I look them back up
I may have been a little sick of the whole backtrack thing at that point
backtracking isn't too horrible on it's own, and it does have it's merits
but I am not fond of being stuck trying to find where I am supposed to go as often as had happened to me in those games
which is a shame because everything else about them I really loved

I actually own Metroid Prime...3, I think. But I don't own a Wii, so it's useless to me for now.
(It was a present when I lived at home and had access to a Wii. But I didn't realistically have access to it for singleplayer gaming, so I only got past the first level.)

I had a Wii too
I think I gave it away after many years of not using it (I did get a lot of mileage out of it before that time, IE many years of using it THEN many years of not using it afterward)
I think I gave it to some kid my siblings and I used to babysit
I also had like, a PS1-2, maybe even a PS3, and an Xbox which was mostly used for playing Halo and Ninja Gaiden
PC master race now though, basically XD not that there is really anything wrong with consoles

12:17 AM
I've always been PC master race, but I make an exception for Nintendo, since there's so much good content that is inaccessible on PC.

I was mostly a console gamer for a while

There's very little PS or Xbox stuff I'm interested in that I can't play on PC anyway, certainly not enough to justify buying a console for.

yeah, that is a thing
I even put Halo on one of my laptops
that one burned out several years ago though
not that I think I need to spend any more time on that game
I played it way too much as is
or at least the single player
I wouldn't object to playing multiplayer with a room full of four or so friends

Halo 3 and onwards are one of the things that makes my resolve waver every now and then.

I only ever played the first one

12:22 AM
I can't actually recommend the second one :(
Dual-wielding was awesome, but it's about the only thing I'd say they improved.

with the exception of,.. one of them which I only briefly played multiplayer against other people for an hour or so

I'd better not go into things I think they...de-proved? What's the opposite of improved?

I think it may have been 2, did 3 have dual wielding in it and it just chucked out the bad stuff?

I dunno, 3 is Xbox-only, so I haven't played it :P

you are not the first person to tell me that 2 was,.. mediocre
part of the reason I never bothered with it was that a few people had already bothered to tell me that they really liked the first game and were pretty disappointed with 2 for at least a couple reasons

12:26 AM
I mean, I enjoyed it, and I wouldn't be like "Oh gawd naw don't do eet eet's tearable", it just wasn't as good as the original.

otherwise I might have ended up buying it or getting it as a birthday or christmas present or something.
yeah, no one has said to me that it was god awful
but almost everyone has said it was disappointing in comparison to the first game
which was not a thing I was into finding out first hand
so I just stuck with remembering the glory days of the first game
but since I had not played 2 I kinda lost interest in 3, and so on and so forth

It's interesting how my values have changed - 3 years ago I would've said "It's only like $15, why not?" but nowadays I care very little about price and I'm more likely to say "It's probably not worth putting in the time to play it."

yeah
time is at least as much a factor
heck, the money you make from a job means that you spend time at that job,... so of course you have less of that to dedicate to certain games over others
among other reasons that vary between people of course
everyone has to actually pick out which games to play and which ones not to bother with
one person might really just like the occasional point and click, while someone else prefers RPG's, just to use a really broad, generalized example

4 hours later…
4:33 AM
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this picture. http://t.co/4YZkXtlykR

4 hours later…
8:21 AM
@trogdor this is actually pretty close to a co-worker of mine who defined Part-Time as "Buying back part of the time you gave in to work"

lol

@trogdor Fun thing: there is a way to play Other M as an actual acceptable game, it is called the Machete mode :P
You start with episode 4, 5, then 2,3 Skip the cutscenes :P and pretend the game has no story

yeah I didn't play it
but I have seen cut scenes for it
they did significantly less than impressing me

Well, I could live with most of them, except the part where Samus now magically seem to have Fluttershy personality.
The same Samus that single handed a pirate filled planet.

yeah

8:31 AM
The actual game parts weren't too bad, if you exclude the unneeded 3d switch at some points.

and she has killed Ridley an obscene number of times
but SHE was scared of HIM in one that I saw
which is dumb

@trogdor that is a problem, but not the mayor one. The reaction she has about the dead Metroid from Super Metroid, that is the mayor issue.

eh, I suppose it might be
but just how scared she was Ridley was enough to make me mad
as I said, she has killed him soooooo many times
and heck, some of those times he came back with more armor plating or some such other thing
and then she killed him again
either immediately or later

That is what you get when you let someone write out your characters and you don't watchdog them.
Because Samus => female => sweet, delicate, defenseless, scared
I bet @Pixie just will love this conclusion they made ^
@trogdor Jokes aside, at least Other M isn't like the unholy Zelda games that shall not be named.

mm
yeah, weren't the people who made Other M mostly the same people who made all/most of the Ninja Gaiden games?

8:43 AM
Oh, hi Pixie. Didn't really mean to summon you. We were just discussing how Other M felt the urge to add some female stereotypes to the Samus character
@trogdor yep.

if I am right about that I can't imagine why no one saw the misogyny coming

Ah. xD I don't actually play Metroid, but I have heard enough about Other M to follow the drift.

and to give them the credit they deserve, the game controls where good. The plot and character design weren't at all.

no one should have given a game with a pre-established badass woman protagonist to them

@trogdor Well, they may have worked well if the game was Tomb Raider.

8:45 AM
it's fine that the game play was good,... but I expect a little more than that in a franchise I am at least a little invested in XD
@SPArchaeologist yeah,.....
unfortunately XD

Wait, forget that, give Tomb Raider to the DOA team.
I am sure they will know how to handle that perfectly.

... with volleyball?

well, it is not like Lara wasn't meant to be a fanservice character from the start...

hasn't she been re-booted at this point actually?

(I actually quite enjoyed DoA2. That one is pretty solid. After that, I can't comment. :P)

8:48 AM
I did play one of the DoA games, one of the fighting ones
I think it was,... 2? it could have been 3

Did it have a tengu boss? If so, 2.

I am pretty sure it wasn't the first one, if only because it was at a friend's house and it seemed like he had played at least one other one before
@Pixie I didn't fight bosses, I just played against said friend and my brother

@Pixie As a fighting game, maybe it is solid. It just became suspect when a fighting game manages to have 99% female cast and get itself censored and retired from marked in countries like AU

I think they actually have a decent number of male characters, unless you mean the vollyball games

And yes, it was the fighting game which got censored. Don't get me started on the "volleyball" spinoffs (because you know, a volleyball game needs... poledancing?)

8:51 AM
those obviously do not

The motivations for a largely female cast are obvious in this case, but (again, just talking about 2 here) it was really not that bad, fanservice-wise.
It was funny, I had only had experience with DoA2, so I thought "that's kind of an exaggeration" when people talked about DoA and jiggle physics. Then I watched some clips from some of the later games. Then I understood.

@Pixie it got worse as you may have seen. Not the worst out there but pretty bad indeed.

Yes. It was hilarious, frankly. At one point I saw what I can only describe as "one boob flapping in the wind."

And you probably missed the best part.
@Pixie Last game came out, mods came out (the nature of the mods I will leave to your imagination) and then the programmers actually made a twitter post along the lines "please don't do uncouth mods, they go against the nature of the game"
(notice: yes, the "uncouth" is a reference to the way Rarity speaks)

3 hours later…
12:00 PM
@Pixie At one point I discovered that DoA2 had an Age setting that went up to 99. I could not imagine why such a setting could possibly exist. I looked it up. It controlled the boob physics.

@doppelgreener that is,.. really strange

3 hours later…
3:41 PM
I would have hoped that was a bad joke. Knowing the game, it isn't.
and still it sells more than the other great games no one seem to know about.

6 hours later…

1 hour later…
11:14 PM
@BESW It's kinda cute...

@Pixie THE SKULL IS CRYING BECAUSE ITS BRAIN IS ON FIRE.
AAAAAH.

That reminds me of a dramatic video I saw of chocolate bunnies being melted with with irons and heat lamps and such. That was a bit unnerving.

@Pixie I saw this one!

But... the skull is cute! It makes me want to pat it on the head, which is a little dangerous because I might singe my hand.

11:20 PM
Just be careful about when you pat it.
@BESW Ha!
