Wait...I'm on 15.04 and I'm still getting sources from trusty and utopic? wat
It's breaking stuff too :P
Anyone know anything?
Apparently updates are just screwy for me :P

What's in /etc/apt/sources.list?

then there was also a site to rebuild sources.list

Hmm... looks correct.

unless spotify?

Rendering the (hopefully) final video...
There were some silent clips in there so I filled in with some piano playing :P

I think I'll just remove all my sources and re-add them.

12:50 AM
@NathanOsman What's the LP link for stackapplet? ppa:george-edison55/stackapplet?
For add-apt-repository
Hrm...nope

1:24 AM
And we're live!
Prepare for humor.

Wut.
Maybe it takes a bit longer to render the HTML5 videos. Maybe try again a bit later.

Ok :/
Now it's working @Nathan.

hehehe
how did you do the voice?

1:40 AM
Well, I actually did the voice myself but I raised the pitch by 30% in Audacity.
I can do quite a few interesting voices.

@NathanOsman awesome, that's funny

1:59 AM
It was fun to make.

2:41 AM
@NathanOsman lol xD
Are those actual Win98 sounds for the USB & login stuffs?
"Use Linux" xD

3:15 AM
The funky piano jingles are my own. The only sounds from actual Windows 98 are the login whoosh and the error message ding.

3:48 AM
@NathanOsman did you make that video?
@NathanOsman That video is awesome! I laughed hard!

4:13 AM
@Terrance yes, I did. And thank you. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.

@NathanOsman I really did. I watched is several times. I love watching you write "USE LINUX" in the background! LOL

Heh. I thought that would be a funny touch.
I almost forgot to include the Blue Screen of Death at the end.

It was perfect!
=)

But I remembered before I did the final render.

It was a good touch to put at the end.
I hope it gets tons of views.

Me too :)

@A.B. Not good but unavoidable... :P

@ByteCommander I removed the 14.10 ;-) I consider this a generic question unrelated to the version http://askubuntu.com/questions/653209/locked-folder-should-ask-password-even-for-the-same-user-who-set-it
though HE himself will run into trouble upgrading ofcourse :)

@Rinzwind So you want me to remove my comment too, or should I leave it as information for him?

Leave it. User needs to be aware anyways ;)

Oh, and - can you delete answers?
I have found a copy-paste answer of another one.

user136984
Oh!

user136984
One star!

user136984
I got it! :D

Star or underscore.

user136984
Ok, cool, thanks! :D

8:52 AM
Both are equal, but sometimes underscores do get displayed as underscores where stars trigger markdown formatting...
I just could not find out yet when exactly.
It's a trial&error thing.
Oh, and the Powerwolf album is great! :)
However, I have to say I almost like Metallum Nostrum better than Blessed&Possessed.

user136984
@ByteCommander: Yeah, do you have any favourites in the album? Or do you like most of them equally? :)

I think the two prereleased ones (Army of the Night and Armata Strigoi) are one of the best songs in there.
Let me look which others I loved most...
You know Metallum Nostrum is a pure Cover album?
Many covers are from Judas priest in their original version.
That one is a pretty good one, but I don't know of whom it is yet.

user136984
@ByteCommander Yeah, I agree, they are my favourites in the album.

Oh, the caption says it. Gary Moore.
>.< ;D
Ah, there's a list:
1.Touch Of Evil (Judas Priest)
2.Conquistadores (Running wild)
3.Edge Of Thorns (Savatage)
4.Power And Glory (Chroming Rose)
5.Out In The Fields (Gary Moore)
6.Shot In The Dark (Ozzy Osbourne)
7.Gods Of War Arise (Amon Amarth)
8.The Evil That Men Do (Iron Maiden)
9.Headless Cross (Black Sabbath)
10.Night Crawler (Judas Priest)

user136984
Cool

Conquistadores is also great and pretty fast. I've never heard anything similar, I think.
But evil YT seems to have deleted it for © problems

12:17 PM
@Rinzwind: Why is it still getting kernel patches even though it is now EOL? Does that often happen that they still get kernel patches after they have gone EOL? Or is this a special occasion?

@ParanoidPanda the error is too severe and 14.10 seems to have a very large user-base
and no this is a 1st for an EOL
Of course ... the better option is to upgrade.

user136984
Why are people not upgrading?

user136984
@Rinzwind: Is it common for many people not to upgrade even after a version has become EOL?

12:34 PM
@ParanoidPanda Unfortunately, yes.
At least in my experience, and judging my the number of questions we get across the various sites about EOL versions.

user136984
Isn't there a way we can force them? >:)

Does Unity Web Player have anything to do with the Unity shell? I assume not, but just wondering... :D

user136984
And is there a Unity Web Player for Ubuntu, if so, does it have any security complications?

@ParanoidPanda Nope. Just in name.
@ParanoidPanda Sorta - you have to install it through WINE and then use the Pipelight plugin to get it to work in Firefox. I've got it installed and working, but never really use it. As for security, I don't think there have been any major complications ever.

user136984
2:41 PM
Well, I don't use Wine for security reasons... So I guess I won't be getting Unity Web Player! :D

What do you mean?

user139252
What is insecure about wine?

user139252
Other than the fact that we may spill our secrets if we have too much :P

user136984
Wine has full filesystem and network access, as well as the ability to start and stop any process it wants in /usr/bin, so if you run software in there which is not fully trusted, that can cause security issues.

user136984
2:46 PM
And I realise that that would mean that I would have had to have installed something malicious in Wine for it to happen, however there are always exploits, and I don't fully trust myself... :D

user136984
@RPiAwesomeness @HeatherBrown ^

user139252
Only run trusted software? Isn't that a general rule anyway? It's not like a full Windows system that's bound to just poop all over everything at any point.

I'm finding conflicting documentation on this...

user139252
is it from evdev import Uinput or from evdev import uinput or from evdev import UInput?

@HeatherBrown In Python?

user139252
Yes

Well, you can throw out the first one, that's totally wrong
I'd assume it'd be the last one
If the creator of evdev programmed his module correctly

user139252
2:50 PM
I'll just try both in different parts, run it, and see which one breaks.

Try from evdev import UInput first

@HeatherBrown Python2 or 3?
In Py2, I'd guess UInput, while Py3 usually uses lowercase-only.

@ByteCommander Really?
I thought classes were supposed to start with a capital letter

user139252
Alright, I'll use UInput, then

user139252
Always Py2. Py3 is gross.

2:54 PM
o.O
I would have to disagree with you there, Python3 is the current development cycle and Python 2 is considered legacy by the Python people.

Hey guys. How can i check unique users connected to a socket on my server using the command line?
netstat -an | grep -c 8080

Will this show me the correct amount?

user139252
UInput works. Newer isn't always better. Python 3 may be current dev cycle, but Python 2 is still the most widely used. Which is why, I suppose, the default Python in the path is Python 2. You have to specify if you want to use 3.

user139252
@MarcRasmussen It works for me.

@HeatherBrown Yeah but can i count them as users or just as active connections (also from other programs)

user139252
Oh, hmm...

user139252
2:58 PM
let me look into it

@HeatherBrown No, the reason that it's the default Python is because there's a lot of old code that depends on it being the way that it was back when the code was written. Only reason Python 2 is the most widely used is because people who learned Python 2 haven't moved forward.

user139252
Then I'm just an old hag that likes Py2 :p

user139252
@MarcRasmussen Looks like it's just the number of active connections

@HeatherBrown Okay so if no other program is using that socket it should be safe to say that it is active users connected to that socket port?

I'd say so

3:00 PM
Great thank you guys :D
<3
is there a way i can see what ips are connected to that port just so i can make sure it isnt an internal program?

user139252
netstat -tn 2>/dev/null | grep :8080 | awk '{print $5}' | cut -d: -f1 | sort | uniq -c | sort -nr | head

O.O
Dat command though

user139252
That will also tell you how many connections from that IP

user139252
and sort the IPs from highest to lowest number of connections

@RPiAwesomeness Package names, not classes. Not sure if that's a rule though, but I often observed it yet.

3:06 PM
CapWords convention, so it's a suggested formatting.

@HeatherBrown Where does it print the output to?

user139252
The terminal you run it from

@MarcRasmussen terminal

user139252
Just tested it, it even works from ssh

@HeatherBrown it doesnt work from my SSH
@HeatherBrown Or well there is no output

3:07 PM
> Package and Module Names

Modules should have short, all-lowercase names. Underscores can be used in the module name if it improves readability. Python packages should also have short, all-lowercase names, although the use of underscores is discouraged.

Since module names are mapped to file names, and some file systems are case insensitive and truncate long names, it is important that module names be chosen to be fairly short -- this won't be a problem on Unix, but it may be a problem when the code is transported to older Mac or Windows versions, or DOS.

Your IP address is not a secret, you shouldn't treat it as such

user139252
Yeah, but that is less accessible :p

user139252
I know it's not secret, but it's still something you shouldn't advertise.

3:15 PM
I distinctly remember a certain user being constantly trolled with other users posting their IP address because they were sure it was a private secret

user136984
@MadaraUchiha: Where and when was that?

In Arqade's chat and a few months ago, IIRC

Q: Reverse Firewall or Application Firewalls?

Meer BorgFirewalls are typically employed to prevent bad "packets" coming in from the outside world. But these days we are mostly behind routers and a lot of that danger is mitigated by the router. The danger we face is mostly from within. The proverbial Trojan horse. In Windows world there are a lot of ...

user139252

user136984

Yes, Portal is the only game that will play on my machine... And I already finished all the levels on it, so it's kind of become boring...

3:54 PM
@HeatherBrown despite what some say, I think the camera is absolutely awesome. With the right app, you can take excellent pictures and shoot 4k video.
@ParanoidPanda I've built a couple Android apps, made some web applications, and played around with a few things, yes.

user136984

@NathanOsman: That's not your real voice is it...? :D

@ParanoidPanda Yes and no.
It is my voice but I raised the pitch by 30% of an octave.
Of course I don't normally speak like that.

@NathanOsman 1 hour later...

wow, the MX4 is expensive.

@Seth lol? Cheap to me.

I dunno, I mean it's not too bad if that's unlocked.
oh wait
I converted it pounds to USD, but it's in euros.
wow, ok. Much better!

@Seth How much is it on dollars?

4:29 PM
$332.20.
I was looking at it from British pounds though, which was $465.69.

The BQ phones?

Oe the OS?

user139252

The MX4

I can see where you would compare the Meizu to an iPhone, but not the BQs so much.
@HeatherBrown Ahh, I can see that.

user136984
@Seth: You BBQ phones...?

user139252
