Q: Why does Arby ask Jessica Hyde, "Where is Jessica Hyde?"

PolynomialBefore I start, I'm going to warn you that this contains spoilers of the first part of season one, because I don't feel like sticking this whole question in a spoiler tag. In episode 1x03, at the end of the scene in Alice's house (around 44 minutes in), Arby speaks to Jessica: ...

Q: In what movie does a guy save his girlfriend from rape?

trwThe film I vaguely remember was released between 1988 and 1990. It's set on a college campus and a guy gets beaten really badly while engaging a gang of his girlfriend's would-be rapists. He allows her enough time to escape. I keep thinking the part is played by Paul Rudd, but that is by no means...

Grantapologies if this has been asked and answered but I can't find anything related.... When I'm watching a show, and I press the INFO button on my r/c, I get a bar at the top of my screen with loads of different symbols. Some are obvious, like HD (or SD), 16:9 etc., but I can't find any full list a...

Actually reminded me of this question and it's interesting revision history (especially the now deleted comments).

@NapoleonWilson this also gave me chance to see that you also talked to your split personality under a question.
I though it was only for chat

12:14 PM
@AnkitSharma What are you talking about? It was a normal bilateral comment discussion. You might be confusing comment deleters with comment authors?

@AnkitSharma Which it also is anyway.
@AnkitSharma Is this supposed to be a "Oh, I see" message or an "Ah yeah, funny" message? Because my previous chat message wasn't meant as sarcastic. I still don't know what your chat message was talking about and I'd like to understand it.

Q: Why was Butch's taxi ride background black and white?

SecretIn Pulp Fiction, Butch has a scene where he takes the cab. In this scene, the background is black and white, and is quite surreal. I am guessing there is a reason for this, most likely a reference (I'm a teenager, so I'm guessing this is a reference to an old movie that I most likely haven't w...

Q: short movie, non American, about 3 witches flying on brooms. They were chasing each other I think

HLTI remember seeing some kind of short movie on late one night in the early 90's or late 80's. There were 3 classically dressed and ugly (big long noses) witches flying on brooms in some woods. I think they were chasing something or each other. It was comedic I think.... They didn't speak except fo...

7:20 PM
Heh, the SciFi guys gettin' worked up about being the better place for questions about a movie that isn't even SciFi. Gotta love 'em. ;-)

7:30 PM
@NapoleonWilson - My concern (expressed in the other chatroom) is that the overall quality of answers to sci-fi questions here seems to be that much lower.
Loads of un-supported assertions, a distinct lack of citation, etc etc

@Richard I said it previously, and I'll say it again. The standard for answers is simply different. Different sites, different rules, different attitudes.

My feeling is that if these questions were auto-migrated to Scifi:SE where they'd receive more attention, we'd all be much happier.

I'm in turn not so much interested how toilets work in the wizarding world or how many TNG episodes show a blue flower. But to each his own. Different sites, different places.
@Richard Your Robin answer is pretty good. But honestly, the other answers are great, too (granted, not all of them), "canon" or not.

@NapoleonWilson - Toilets in the wizarding world seem to work much the same as they do in the muggle world, if you take the HP films as canon. Myrtle is hiding in a u-bend, etc

@Richard No, the SciFi users would. But I (and I'd wager other users) have absolutely no interest in engaging in that site and I want those questions here, because they're good questions.
It's fine if you want them on your site, that's your good right, but please don't say "we'd all be much happier", that's utter crap frankly.
We'll certainly not auto-migrate every third question to another site, as that's simply violating the "respect your own community" part (and proposing that to be done would probably in turn violate the "respect other communities" part).

7:43 PM
@NapoleonWilson - I remain dubious :-)

@Richard You don't say. ;-)

If you did migrate a small number of questions, that's hardly going to close the site and ultimately, the aim should be to become a haven for specialists, not to simply grab as many users as possible by widening the scope as far as possible.

I guess that is a bad answer because it doesn't have an interview or novelization in it.
@Richard We're not widening the scope of our site. A SciFi movie is, believe it or not, a movie. That has always been the scope of this site.

8:01 PM
@NapoleonWilson - Which is why movie questions should stay here, regardless of genre (lighting, scriptwriting, direction, budget, etc)
Plot questions, on the other hand should be migrated.

@Richard No, they shouldn't. Plot discussion is and has always been one of the primary fields of this site. It makes absolutely no sense to allow it for some movies and disallow it for others, especially when genre is so fuzzily defined (as can be seen in the Dark Knight trilogy).
Overlap is natural, just get over it. I think I've clarified my point (if only that) enough, and I don't expect you to share it. If there's anything more you want to adress, feel free to bring it to meta.
Now I'm looking forward to The Terminator, haven't seen it for quite some time and after recently watching the new one (which, while not as bad as the internet claims it to be, can obviously not reach the classic) I'm quite in the mood for it and glad that TV thinks so, too.

Q: Name of a 1930s romantic movie

ElsyThere is an old movie I think in the 30s, where I remember 1 scene or 2 but don't know the name. I appreciate if you help me in finding the name. 9:52 PM
@NapoleonWilson that was not serious. Just for pun.
Ahhh....that scifi vs m&tv started again. Why can't we agree to disagree each other and treat each other like different universe :P

Because Movies.SE is full of opinionated speculative crap and all those questions about non-SciFi movies like The Dark Knight Rises would get much better canon answers on that other movies site, obviously!
Oh, and ;-), of course.

Q: Why did the boy call 911?

user2321323In the movie "Mystic River", a 911 call by a boy played a key roll in closing the murder case. But why on earth did he (who later turned out to be the murderer) called 911?
