Hi Johannes

Hi @ManuelKuehner

Deutsch?

@ManuelKuehner Yes, but other user may be interested in the topic as well.

Ok. So I am not so active in LaTeX anymore since I work now. But I often supervise students and help friends.
So I want to give advice that is up to date if you know what I mean.

@ManuelKuehner Why are you collecting best-practice packages?
Ah

12:38 PM
For exampel I didn't know of the inputenx package

@ManuelKuehner KOMA and memoir are widely used. Both require knowledge of their own set of macros and packages.

And if that's what one should use nowadays then I want to know :)
Yes. That's a problem for beginners. I see that too.
Same for bibtex and biblatex. In my university everybody was using bibtex and I was the only one using biblatex thanks to you guys

@ManuelKuehner Using the modern engines XeTeX or LuaTeX, you don't have to care about inputencoding. Alsmost every editor nowadays defaults to utf8.
@ManuelKuehner Manny journals still require BibTeX-compatible bibliographies. Never change a running system.

Maybe. But LaTeX is widely used and I think LuaTeX is not stable yet?!

@ManuelKuehner Somebody has to introduce the modern stuff.

12:42 PM
My intention is to use LaTeX because there are many good book that I can recommend students.

@ManuelKuehner Stable enough. XeTeX is somewhere over version 0.99.
BibTeX never made version 1.
@ManuelKuehner There are also books one cannot recommend at all.

I do not want to argue. Is's just a opinion. And in my experience LaTeX is at the moment the best compromise between functionality and documentation status :). So my question is very open - what do the best LaTeX users use and I will look into the details and recommend some of the stuff to people I know.
I know. I have a lot of book here in my room
I made an extensive LaTeX introduction and reviewed a lot of books.

@ManuelKuehner Ask @davidCarlisle what he is using. ;-)

Good idea
Not sure if he will consider helping
Haha: \section{\textsl{Geneigte Überschrift}}

@ManuelKuehner How long did you talk?

12:50 PM
I am just typing
Or what do you mean?
The LaTeX introduction?

@ManuelKuehner Use the mouse and hover over my last post, it will show the reference point ;-)

about 5 hours inc. practice sessions
Ahhh. Great feature

@ManuelKuehner A friend of mine was giving an introduction: suedraum.de/latex/workshop_fsr4

Thanks. Looks very new. I will look into it and promote it if I like it.
I just scrolled through the presentation. Impressive
So. I will leave for the gym now. Rainy day in my town ;(

@ManuelKuehner Three hours, planned were 90 minutes
@ManuelKuehner Here too, have fun.

12:57 PM
I can imagine that
Thanks for the time and attention
see you later maybe

1:37 PM
@ManuelKuehner One of my introductions: Look for *Sondertermin
27.4.2013* at http://suedraum.de/latex/stammtisch/archiv.html
Just checked, i didn't mention stuff like \textbf{} in my introductions. Please have a look at latex-community.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=88956#p88956
