Lol.

The first beta of NitroShare (0.3.1beta1) has just been released.
Go forth and test!
We have installers for Windows (XP/Vista/7/8/8.1), a Mac bundle (OS X 10.7+), and of course DEBs for Ubuntu (14.04+).
There's also a compressed tarball with the source code for those who wish to build from source.

yay!

2:06 AM
Let me know if you have any questions or encounter any issues.
I may do some benchmarking for fun later.

2:42 AM
Well. That was strange. I was just checking to make sure I had preload installed and I did...albeit the i386 version ...
on my AMD64 system.
Bizarre
@NathanOsman Is it okay if I do my blog writeup now? :D
I know you had said you wanted me to wait for a future release the first time I mentioned doing a writeup.
Something is wrong with my top bar....
No time...

That blasted time. Never enough of it eh? ;p

Oh well.
relogged & it's back.
@Seth Balsted? That's a new one :D

Hey, I'm on mobile :-P

Anyways.
G'night all
\o

3:08 AM
@RPiAwesomeness: Yes, you may write it up. Just please remember that it's not the final version quite yet.
There are still some minor tweaks I'll be making.

@Mateo So that I can mark my question as solved, could you please convert that into an answer? :)

@ByteCommander nice find out!
@NathanOsman Sweet!
gotta mention HTTPS is broken, using ff.

Hi guys I have a quick question
To preface this, im a very new user to Ubuntu

throw it! :)

So i installed a program
and when i go to run the binary/executable
it gives me the following error: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
libncurses.so.5
Which is strange because Im am very aware of ncurses running on my machine as I use the library a lot for assignments

it seems you are missing the ncurse library
oh
do this: find libncurses.so.5
maybe you have another version

ok let me see
yup it has it

6:56 PM
<--- is performing a BIOS upgrade

^is going to be down for a couple of hours :p

I better not be :P

hopefully no :)

But I will have to reboot for a few minutes here. BRB (hopefully).

I like you have implemented Gitter for NS
@pingOfDoom what app is it?
user image
5

6:58 PM
Its an old version of the classic "Rogue" terminal game

can't unseen that
@pingOfDoom have you tried opening from terminal?
lol sorry
it is a terminal game. douh

ahaha wtf, with the image

it is real!
twitter find

Is that a gecko lol?

lizard
It has its own article and everything!

7:02 PM
damnnn

what is the difference between 'gecko' and 'lizard'?

gecko is spelled g e c k o
and lizard is spelled l i z a r d :P

¬.¬
maybe not in javascript
anyway, for real, what is the difference?

lol idk
im not a biologist

Geckos are lizards
Lizards are not geckos

7:05 PM
I mean, aren't they the same animal?

No they arent

As in .. a cow is an animal but not every animal is a cow

I feel like its like a classification difference

ohh
@Rinzwind that is a game changer

Like same phylum but different species type thing

7:06 PM
maybe a picture can help..

ooh ok

Oh it seems they are even in an other animal class :P

So theyre in completely different families altogether

kona beer??

7:07 PM
YES

ughh

the difference is that lizards live in habitats that serve Kona finely crafted beer
IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW

lol
ok got it

anyway with regards to my problem
any ideas?

they are from different classes
@pingOfDoom so, what app is it?

7:08 PM
Rogue

can I install it?

yeah ill send u a link

great

what version are u using?

7:09 PM
3.6
but i dont think that makes a difference

yep it does
Rogue 3.6.3 Linux Binary should be enough, right?

yup

oh, no install
Segmentation fault, awesome

wtf lol?
Howd u get it to Seg Fault?

@pingOfDoom its Lucio we are talking about >:-D He can even make Nathan's BIOS act up

7:14 PM
I'm back!

DAMN!

>.<

@Lucio how was that for timing? :=D

BIOS update was successful.

fast.

7:15 PM
Now I just need to find some sort of stress test.

lol what is it about Lucio that can things to not work ? :P

@NathanOsman for a BIOS? good luck in finding one :P
or for memory?

@NathanOsman pendrive comes in, pendrive comes out hehe

@Rinzwind No, something to stress the CPU.
I think mprime might work.

tbench
sudo apt-get install stress
aptly named

7:19 PM
Lol.

tests cpu and gpu
stress -c 1
does CPU

What does GPU?
I don't see an option for that in --help.

oh the 1 doesa 1 core. stress -c 4 does 4
wat it does not do gpu :P
cpu ram and disk writes

Dear me.
I just started mprime and the system immediately rebooted.
That's no good.

7:27 PM
I had the BIOS set to maximum performance. I've moved it down to normal now. Let's see if that helps.

Machines are revealing.

howd u get it work @Lucio?

downloaded latest version
2005

version does matter.

7:28 PM
ohh ok

@NathanOsman that was Lucio breathing out

I went with test #1.

Idk. I was told to use the character set from version 3.6.3

I'll try it again.

lol
@pingOfDoom let me see if I can help you getting that working.

7:29 PM
Running fine so far.
Temp. is climbing pretty high...
68.4 degress for the CPU.
And the warning temp. is set to 70 degrees.

that sounds bad

Hmm... yeah.

What?

@Fabby still want that badge for spending a bounty on a foreign user's Q? I would have one now for you that is worth one:

Q: Entirely disable suspension (at kernel level? - has to be independend of used DE and login state!)

ByteCommanderOnce again I need a workaround to deal with my almost broken notebook graphics card: It does not wake up after suspending! The Ubuntu 14.10 system is waking up, but the display stays off, so I have to press the Power button and blindly navigate to the "Shutdown" option, to avoid a hard power off...

7:45 PM
Temperature seems to be holding at about 68.5.

Sensor failing?
Lets turn on a candle :D

It's working.

My desktop never got warmer than 42°C. I think it had to do too less work then, but I did not manage to overclock it yet.

The only thing I ever overclocked in this PC is the video card. And it's staying a chilly 49 degrees.

8:00 PM
@NathanOsman lol, I thought you meant outside and I was like "Why would he be using F.?"

8:27 PM
No, no.
It's degrees Celsius and it's inside my PC.
I cleaned some dust off the outside of one of the fans. Didn't do a thing.
The idle temp. is pretty close to zero.
I'm going to see if there is a way to underclock the CPU...

8:46 PM
lol what happened?
nathan hows stress test goign?

8:57 PM
Much better now.
It's at 56.1 now that I switched to energy saving mode.

Nice

Isn't it really slow now? Or at least remarkably slower?

Nope. The core frequency is the same (3.6 GHz).

What changes it then?

No clue... maybe voltage or something?

9:03 PM
But lower voltage = lower frequency, I thought!

Those are independent variables as far as I know.

How fast the quartz timer is going should depend on the voltage, as far as I know... (?)
Only multiplicator stuff etc is independent, I thought

I honestly have no idea then.

user136984
9:18 PM
Is there any way of getting an on screen keyboard in Ubuntu?

@Toroidal Look for, onboard

@Mateo Ok, found it, thanks! :)

user136984
:)

I'm just a Vorlon...
Not a god...

user136984
Ok... :D

9:51 PM
What is cmatrix? xscreensaver plug-in or separate?
@Rinzwind: I'm stalking you:
In Heerlen already! ;-)

@Fabby It just runs in terminal, looks like matrix code

@ByteCommander No. It's based on a quartz clock; not on voltage...
No clue then.
Never tried it.
@ByteCommander: we're not talking Herz here but GHz...

user136984
@Fabby It is a separate program. You should try it though, it's good, it is a screensaver for the console.

meh...
Sorry: just a gizmo...
I use xscreensaver as it's a bot better then gnome-screensaver
(less boring)

user136984
I was using xscreensaver, but I got annoyed with the fact that I could not get it to automatically lock when waking it up from the screensaver, but instead had to set a time after which it would lock and go black.

user136984
9:57 PM
@Fabby: Did you compile the source code from the site, or did you get the old version from the Ubuntu repositories?

@NathanOsman: what do you thing of this meta answer? >:)
