@Arperum A Touchdown is the primary (and most efficient) way to score points in American Football. It is achieved by either physically carrying the ball all the way across the field into the opponents 'end zone' (goal area, essentially), or by having a player catch the ball out of the air while already in the end zone.

It is worth 6 points as a baseline, and, after scoring a touchdown, teams have the opportunity to earn either 1 or 2 extra points on a bonus play that immediately follows it before the change of possession.

I'm doing some design research on platformers - mostly those similar to Mario and Rayman where platforming really is the crux of the gameplay and doesn't have a lot of combat or puzzles or anything of that sort - any other big name games (or popular indie titles like Super Meat Boy) that I should be aware of as I look into this more?

I don't know what your list is for, but if I were compiling a list of platformers, I wouldn't include Megaman.

Although it exists in the game, it's not even close to the focus.

Yeah I'm more interested in momentum driven platforming where there are optimal routes if you are going super fast but its still platforming at its core if you don't have perfect gameplay

Megaman doesn't quite fit because it's more about combat if you aren't at a speedrunning level

Shovel Knight is kind of similar to that... but it's still a lot of platforming even if not momentum driven
