12:24 AM
@BESW What about commoners with Friendship?

@Adeptus Homebrew is totally different.

Are you saying, RAW commoners don't have friends?

Not magical friendship.
Depending on their diplomacy attempts they may have established friendly relations.

But friendship is... nevermind

If you draw upon it as a source of divine inspiration, certainly!
My Little Paladin: Friendship is Magically Sufficient To Fuel My Cause
4
For realsy though, in 3.5e you could totally use the Monster Races rules to create a Pony or War Pony who is a divine class (Paladin, Cleric, etc) and whose source of divine power is Friendship. Or if 3.5e isn't happy with the abstract-concept thing, Pathfinder would be fine with it.
I wonder if you could do the same in 5e.

1:10 AM
@doppelgreener Mostly.
I vaguely remember seeing guidelines for monster PCs, but I can't remember where.

1:34 AM
Pondering: How would you make a Ghostwriter concept work as a Fate PC, given the character's bizarre limitations and abilities?

1:47 AM
To wit: completely insubstantial; visible only as a ball of light and only to those he reveals himself to; unable to perceive his environment except by detecting emotions and reading text; unable to make noise or manipulate his environment except by limited moving of text. (Leaving out the time travel thing because--no.)

2:05 AM
Ghostwriter
Concept: Benevolent amnesiac ghost

Stealth: 10

Stunts:
- I'm A Ghost: I am absolutely stealthy, and always succeed on Stealth attempts unless my opponent has specialised senses or equipment.
- Light: Those I choose can see me as a ball of light.
- Ghostly senses: I can read emotion and text, but I am otherwise unable to perceive my surroundings.
- Ghost's touch: I can write and move text on any surface, but I am otherwise unable to interact with my surroundings.

What do those last two do, mechanically? How are they stunts?
Does reading emotion happen automagically? Do I need to make a roll? Does it manifest as aspects, or free invokes on their character aspects, or...?

@BESW oh yeah, let me tweak that.

Reading up on the Sapphire & Steel Big Finish shows, apparently Agents are often dispatched in pairs: one to figure out what’s going on, and one to do something about it.

Ghostwriter
Concept: Benevolent amnesiac ghost
Aspect: Ball of light

Stealth: 10
Empathy: 4
Typogromancy: 4

(Typogromancy is a skill that can only be used to create or move writing on a surface interacted with, e.g. to correct kerning.)

EXTRA: Barely-there ghost.
Cost: I am unable to perceive or interact with my surroundings, except as permitted by my skills and stunts.

Extra Stunts:
- Sneaky like a ghost: I am absolutely stealthy, and always succeed on Stealth attempts unless my opponent has specialised senses or equipment.

This is why Sapphire's the damsel in distress: she's got all the "finding danger" talents while Steel's got all the "fixing problems" talents.

2:20 AM
You're automatically hidden, and you only roll for Typogromancy when failure to write would be interesting. Most stuff like manipulating text on a page would be considered trivial enough to be an automatic success. Doing it correctly in a rush would call for a roll.

One common problem Ghostwriter comes up against is that he doesn't have access to all the characters he needs to communicate a particular idea.
Like, if he needs to write J. Jonah Jameson but there's only one j nearby.

Oh, so he can't create text?

Nope!

Ok, Text manipulation for a skill then.
which does the same stuff except without creating text.

(Because it's the 90s, he can create text on computer interfaces, but that's... weird... in a modern context.)

2:28 AM

2:38 AM
@doppelgreener Yes, well... it was the 90s?

@BESW yes this makes it understandable
(I was actually looking for an [internally weeping] gif but this one worked too)

3:23 AM
My initial notes for a Time Mender PC are now up.

Speaking of which, be delighted in this wonderful picture from the legendary @CheyenneWright and @girlgenius http://t.co/v0pfhAqafk

4:18 AM
....and my Time Mender is rapidly getting out of control stunt-wise.

5:04 AM
@BESW one of those stunts is something Stellata could use!
I'm going to transform her into someone more field agent-ish
closer to what the men in black tend to be
still bookish, but as Pixie mentioned, strategy books exist too!
still lots of contacts, but less mechanical emphasis on using them

2 hours later…
6:54 AM
[blink] I watched Harlock: Space Pirate because I wanted something silly.
I did not get what I wanted.

lol

@BESW Oh no. I still haven't seen that -- what did you get?

@Pixie Ummm. I'm not sure. What I watched was the film on Netflix--I didn't know it had any history in other media.
It... um... well, it was very philosophical/metaphorical/introspective in a very Japanese kind of way. Also there was a ghost ship and many lasers.

@BESW It's a pretty tangled web! I haven't seen any of them, though, so I was curious as to what the movie was actually like. I don't know anything about Matsumoto's stuff except that it exists and who the main characters are.

I felt like it had a major plot/motive problem at its core, which wouldn't have been a problem except the whole film was about exploring character motives.
Aside from that problem, and the necessary "Okay, manga science fiction, just go with it"-ness, it was good.

7:00 AM
@Pixie I am having that problem where I want Stellata to be pretty decent at most of the things
skills are generally decided into people skills, action-oriented skills, and SCIENCE!!, and I want her to be good at the first two categories

Some great visuals, solidly developed main characters (albeit somewhat stock-ish) but all the secondary characters were paper-thin.

... is there a go-to Thing To Do when in this circumstance?

@doppelgreener Don't cross the streams!

@BESW okay
i will try not to do that
OH WAIT. maybe i should emphasize their relative importance by letting the less important social and action skills fall back to +1/2 and focus on the rest being around +3/4.

@doppelgreener Hmm... that is a difficult question. I don't think there's a "go-to," no. In game systems where you have resources to spread you kind of just have to decide "jack of all trades, master of none" or "better at some things at the expense of others." But yeah, prioritizing like that is a good idea.

7:04 AM
@Pixie i will do this second thing.

I usually try to decide one thing my character is super good at, and one thing they are secondary at
like with Dr Light, he is science
but after that he is pretty decent at action too

I feel like that's usually the way to go if you really break down the character, and it tends to be more mechanically sound in the systems I'm familiar with (which is not yet Fate, it should be noted). Still, the former can be workable too.

Ok. :)

@BESW Ahh, I see. And was this an anime or was it that live action one they did? Not sure what is on Netflx.

Hmm, I see Project Morningstar is being relaunched for Pathfinder. I couldn't find anything in their FAQ about "What the hell happened with Dungeonscape". I'm guessing that question is asked pretty darn frequently.
Also, g'morning.

7:06 AM
Space Pirate Captain Harlock (宇宙海賊キャプテンハーロック, Uchū Kaizoku Kyaputen Hārokku) is a 2013 Japanese 3D CG anime film directed by Shinji Aramaki. In 2010, Toei Animation announced that it made a pilot for a computer-graphics remake, and it presented the pilot at Tokyo International Anime Fair that year. In the next year, was presented a preview of Space Pirate Captain Harlock at Annecy International Animated Film Festival. This is Toei Animation's second highest production budget ever at the equivalent of over 30 million dollars. The story was reconstructed by the writer Harutoshi Fukui to reflect the...

Stellata is currently halfway toward being a fun playable character, and being that sort of self-exploration character I put a piece of myself into. The latter is the bit causing the problem so I'm going to push her further toward the former. (It's also the kind of thing that puts the character dangerously in the realm of being a self-insert or even a mary-sue.)

@BESW ooo, any particular reason for linking this?

@BESW Ohh, I was remembering incorrectly. I guess it was a CG anime instead of a live action that I was thinking of. Like I said, not intimately familiar with Matsumoto. :P

@doppelgreener I'm seeing if mixes of standard modes can get what you want.

7:08 AM
@lisardggY "It got axed"
@BESW :O Okay!

@doppelgreener With rumors of "it got axed because Trapdoor didn't meet deadlines or expectations".

I am heading home right now but will be here to tinker with it later.

@doppelgreener I take a slightly less harsh view of self-inserts than others might, but if it's interfering with your ability to execute the character the way you want to, guiding things in other directions is probably for the best.

@Miniman "Creative Use of the Lizard" would be a good name for a band.
...also an exotic cooking show.
...and possibly a late-night B5 spinoff series.

@Pixie Yeah, I have no problem with self inserts either and would have no problem with Stellata being one - but exactly as you put it, it's interfering in this case.

7:19 AM
@doppelgreener I have a suggestion.

@BESW that's the sort of cooking show I'd tune into after seeing it at 11:30pm in the off-beat channel's guide, just to see with morbid curiosity what the heck it is.
What is that?

Create stunts which let you modify rolls and create aspects within scopes that are not bound by modes.
For example, being able to detect motive via pheromones may give her an advantage in social encounters or combat.
So let her use ... Notice, probably... simply to create advantages representing her ability to detect and decipher pheromones, whether it's sniffing out a hidden foe, sensing that someone's lying, or tracking down a rogue monster.

... That sounds good!!!

Ooh, nifty.
Wow. Being curious, I perused Netflix's anime selection, and it is terrible.

Somewhere in ARRPG there's a stunt that lets you replace one skill with another for the scene, at the cost of a Fate point.

7:24 AM
That sounds like it may be two applications at least though. Reading someone's mental state counts for three applications on Empathy, then there's sensing pheromones

@BESW What is it with this site and generating band names?

There's also the "Can use Notice in place of Empathy in X situation" stunt format

Like, "Spend a Fate point to use Physique in place of any other skill in X context for the rest of the scene."

.... I might give her that for Will.
One small aspect of her I haven't produced through mechanics yet is the idea of her having a very strong will and sense of self discipline, just through the way her brain works.

@Miniman It's surprisingly easy to do! I think the last one I came up with accidentally was "Blood Ritual Tea Party."

7:34 AM
@doppelgreener So, for example, you can take care of all her science-y stuff by letting her use Will for it.
> LATERAL THINKER: During a brainstorm, you may use Will in place of any other Science skill. (ARRPG 257)
> UNTAPPED TALENTS: Once per scene, spend a fate point and choose a skill. For the rest of the scene, you have a +1 bonus to that skill’s rating, to a maximum of Fantastic (+6). (ARRPG 261)

home! [reads these pages]

> FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES: Once per issue, when you have the time and opportunity to meet with your contacts in the scientific community, you can spend a fate point to acquire a cutting-edge or top-notch piece of technology. Once per volume, if done as part of creating an invention (page 139), this can satisfy a serious catch. (ARRPG 272; could be re-tooled to represent her ability to modify herself.)

Oh man.
Inventions.
Crazy plant weapons.

Or crazy plant analysis 'machines', or crazy plant jetpacks...

Crazy plant safety gear. "Here, put this on." "It's... moving." "That's the safety bits."
5

7:51 AM
Ooh, planty inventor. Might get along with my character who's a bramble-brewer alchemist in Pathfinder and a Sylvari engineer in GW2. :P

Whoops, tooltip.

"Whoops, tooltip" would... well, no, it wouldn't be a good band name.
2

However, "Crazy Plant Safety Gear" and "Bramble-Brewer Alchemist" totally would.
Also "The Safety Bits."

@BESW Not to be confused with the Safety Dance.

i just realised, there's no particular reason Stellata needs to have physique at all, is there?

8:06 AM
It makes a lot of sense, in the "control over her own body" context.

@doppelgreener I suppose it depends on what you want to emphasize. If she's got bodily strength and physical resilience (though the latter may be more Athletics) owing to her planty nature I'd consider keeping it.

Yeah actually that is the case.

@Pixie Athletics is trained ability, physique is raw power.

@BESW Though athletics is also the physical defense skill, isn't it?

Taking a punch = Physique; dodging a punch = Athletics.

8:08 AM
Because I cannot reinforce a skill that is not even trained, I'm going to turn her Intrigue into a weird mode with Physique in it.

I recall physique saying that it wasn't normally used as a defense skill except that you could try to actively defend against an action (as in, do something to counter it), although I also remember finding that a little strange.

Basically, yes.
Again, physique is about raw power. If it's used to defend, that's taking the hit and not caring.

I counter his punch with my face.

Which is an unusual enough ability to not be a standard application of the skill, but a fun one to add with a stunt.
(I loved being a WoW druid tank.)

I assume we're talking Fate again here?

8:11 AM
Aye.

@BESW I'm rereading it now, and I see, I see.

Trappings I need to add: Combat's Attack to Athletics, and Physique's Overcome to... uh... something. Neither Athletics nor Will seem quite right, though both of them seem sorta-right.

Something in the wording somewhere made me think otherwise, and that's what I found odd, though I spot the Take the Blow stunt now.

Specifically: Athletics will be her main method of attack, probably. And I still want her to be able to apply brute force. She's strong! But she won't often use it to create advantages or defend, she'd prefer athletics-related advantages and defences.

So yeah, I'd definitely use Physique to represent plant-natured resilience. (My mind went there because that's how I envision Flainn in his mutagen form -- he gets the bramble-brewer's +4 natural armor because he's getting all plantified.)

8:15 AM
If it's a Sometimes Thing, don't make it an Always Trapping.

I'll use that fate point skill you suggested and see how that works out.

Alternately, you could have a stunt that does something like "spend a fate point to add a trapping to Athletics for the rest of the scene."
Or do it one scene/issue without the fate point.

I would rather once per scene or with a fate point

8:40 AM
Listening to Cecile Corbel is dangerous... it gives me cravings I do not have games to satisfy.

9:18 AM
@BESW I sent you an invite for edit permissions; you can toggle to those if you want

"Spend a Fate point to temporarily be able to do something cool" seems like the best compromise for a lot of Stellata's "Jack of all trades" effects.

@BESW hrm. at the moment, though, there's only two I actually want: the pheremone-scent thing, and the surprising strength thing.

9:33 AM
Ooh, this sheet is really nice... a Fate character sheet with built in reference for new players. I only wish it were form fillable since we're online. I'll probably go with an Excel document instead (or even just plain text) and keep a reference sheet handy.
2
It's for the best anyway... I can't for the life of me find something that allows PDFs to be edited online.

@Pixie Nice find!

@doppelgreener Hope someone can use it!
There are tons of different Fate sheets here.
Filing it away in case I ever play any games in meatspace. For my current purposes, I'm glad there was an Excel spreadsheet posted. I mean, with Fate, I could definitely make one myself, but it's still handy. I would really like Exalted spreadsheets.
Because I am currently using a PDF and have to reupload it to G-drive every time I make a change.

there are not many words for "plant person" in the english language

Call a spade a spade?

9:49 AM
@doppelgreener You might have to make one up, or go with something like "vegetal," or, yeah, just "plant person" or "plant humanoid."
(Vegetal to avoid the connotations of vegetative when applied to people, though it still may be too close.)

I think we're going for dryad.
Although "vegetal" has a nice ring to it....

... oh! Haha, yes, dryad works nicely.

> Concept: Inquisitive young xenosociologist [vegetal/dryad?]
Intrigue: Agile and gregarious
Banter: Iron-willed and open-minded
Science: Plants are surprisingly adaptive
Omega: Transfer Student of the Human Condition

[finally finds the thing that explains which skills add which stress boxes]

Oh, yeah, that's kinda hidden.

9:54 AM
[sort of, because page 31 doesn't say the thing about how many each mode adds, just which skills correspond to what]
@BESW that sounds like an important thing to not have hidden!!

Your +3 mode gives OO and your +2 mode gives O.
....yes.
Read the yellow box.

I did.
I was looking for a thing which said "Your good mode adds X stress boxes and your fair mode adds Y stress boxes"
but it only infers that in the examples. which are examples, is the problem.

For Quercus, she's got Physical OOOO and Mental OOO and that's the long and short of it.

I'll give her Mental OOO.

...wait, no. Got my P-words mixed up.

9:57 AM
I am going with dryad. She is a totally nonmagical dryad created by science. People can deal with it.

Fair enough.

Vegetal's accurate but it's the kinda word I'd picture someone using if they were uncomfortable calling her a dryad.
Because, like, for someone deep-seated in the scientific ways, that could feel like acknowledging pixies are real. "Dryad" just won't do!
Or something like that.

"Plantoid" also sprung to mind (because plant humanoid is long and unwieldy). A google search revealed that it is a term applied to some kind of conceptual robot that grows like a plant, but these do not actually exist.
@doppelgreener I... I'm not real?

BTW, @doppelgreener, with that stunt letting you use Will for Science in brainstorming, you might consider making Action (or something similar) your +1 mode.

@Pixie the scientific community would not readily accept that you are
But refer to point above re: people can deal with it.

10:03 AM
@doppelgreener Maybe I don't believe in the scientific community.
Which... includes my mother... ergo... I can't exist? [implode]

(We wouldn't even have to change her Science aspect to make it her Action aspect.)

@BESW [examines]

@doppelgreener I'm still fiddling with it.

@BESW If I do this I might drop combat and physique from it on account of the fact I might not ever use them

@doppelgreener Then let me put in Secret Agent and see how that fits.

10:06 AM
@BESW Ok! :)
> Disciplined Body: I can use Athletics in place of Physique to Overcome obstacles with brute force.
I replaced her skill granting an Athletics trapping for a fate point with this.
I think it should come at a cost. :D
i.e. her body is capable of A LOT but it takes its physical or mental toll.

@doppelgreener You can edit it yourself now.

@BESW thanks :)

@BESW Thank you!
@BESW I'm going to keep the Science skill in there. Coincidentally, each skill in the Important Things is one that would cost the same or less just to reinforce. Plus I get Science flavour and some basic scientific know-how with Science!

Fairy Nuff.

10:17 AM
but now I know what I want to reinforce, too!

Yey!
Also, I'd totally forgotten about Big Brovas for several years.

@BESW good call on using numbers for reinforcement

[bow]

> Beast (6) - Athletics, Notice, Physique, Provoke, Tooth & Claw; p87
I am suddenly really tempted to give her Tooth & Claw...

[snerk]

10:29 AM
Tooth & Claw is her.

That means either a Weird Mode (PLANT SCIENCE?) or a stunt.

@BESW Stunt: I have Tooth & Claw at 1?

I think so.
Let me suss out the example stunt.
....nope, maybe I hallucinated it.
I think in order to get non-standard skills you need a Weird Mode.
PLANT SCIENCE!

PLANT SCIEEEENCE

Bah, tabs got messed up again.
Are you moving trappings from Athletics to T&C?

10:38 AM
@BESW Feed me Seymour Feed me!

@BESW yessss... yes I think I will. :)

@doppelgreener Okay, then I'm going to do some tinkering over in the mode synergy test.

@BESW Ok. I am not sure if I should dump T&C in her +3 mode but I'd kind of like to be able to have it up at +4, and I can't get it that far if it's in her +1 mode. :(

11:03 AM
....I know what I want my new PC to be about, mechanically!
He/she/it is going to be about placing ALL the aspects.
Basically defining and redefining scenes and their contexts.

:')
@BESW This new Stellata is beautiful.

I agree. Nicely done.

Thank you for your help. I don't think I could've gotten it this perfect without it.

My pleasure.
Check your math on T&C.

@BESW That was before we moved reinforcement from Athletics to T&C. Good catch.

11:10 AM
If it were my character, this is where I'd go through and standardise the narrative stance of the stunts.

@Pixie BESW and I just spent some time on the combat-oriented rework of Stellata. In case you'd like to see, the results are beautiful.
@BESW Yes, good call, one was out of place and others might yet be improved.
@BESW See my comment on the restriction on The Social Network? (which I am renaming)

11:30 AM
> A weakness specifies an attack or effect against which you’re vulnerable. When writing the mega-stunt on your sheet, indicate a weakness by writing “but weak against…” after the benefit.
General theme for Weaknesses seems to be that they're not necessarily related to the stunt's benefits, but they're related to the stunt's narrative justification.

Yeah.
You can basically consider it a permanent slotless consequence.
It's a very specific negative "virtual aspect" that you can get compelled for but it can't ever get invoked.

But weak against threats made against people she knows? (which is a lot of people)
though that's not a situation I want to encourage to happen lots. Hmm...

I suggest "but at cost."
Sometimes the cost will be that your ally gets pressure put on her for helping you; other times some new foe will turn up; other times her "help" has Unfortunate Side Effects.

That sounds like drama generation. How excellent!

If you want something more in tune with the flavour of the original, and more specific, just say that the friend and the aspect disappear for the rest of the issue, rather than forever.

11:38 AM
Ah, yeah, that would work, though I'm more just thinking of something that would let that person stick around.
Actually, wait, I'm okay with this. They are still around. But it's when they do something risky for us, they really have to go and be inconspicuous so as to not get caught.

11:51 AM
> Trouble: Cannot resist double entendres for stunts and aspects

You're stacking up the Fate points.

So many fate ponits!

Okay, so, I need some advice.
I want to take this stunt and turn it around so I can give my skills to others:

@BESW Yeah?

> Borrowed Knowledge. Pick another character (PC or NPC) who’s in the scene with you. You can use one of their skills for one roll in this scene, whether it’s a skill you already have or not. When you do this, pay that character a fate point.

11:59 AM
> Loaned Knowledge. Another character (PC or NPC) who's in the scene with you can pay you a fate point. When they do, they can use one of your skills for one roll in this scene, whether it’s a skill they already have or not.

Specifically: Where does the Fate point go?
I... guess that works.

Then you use the fate points to help them.

I've put together a collection of stunts that feel close to the kind of thing I want my PC to do.

It's odd, but I like the results: it is a stunt that gives everyone around you a stunt, which they have to spend a fate point to activate.

Narratively, of course, they're all over the place. But they've got the right thematic interaction with the scene and other characters.

12:02 PM
Up to you if you want to add something like "Another friendly character" or "You can refuse."

...I'm actually tempted to make a guy who just stands there and uses Teamwork and invokes with stunt synergy so he makes everyone else more awesome despite never doing anything himself.
But that'd be silly.

and then you get to decide if they're actually nice and helpful or an asshole or some kind of tall faceless sorta-tendrilly psychoric entity which doesn't generally speak but damn it's good to have them around.

Unfortunately, those guys aren't very fun as Fate PCs. Really hard to give 'em five aspects.

oh yeah <_<;
i forgot about that

I mean, there's only so many ways you can re-iterate Char Gar Gothakon: The Beast That Hath No Name.
Char Gar Gothakon: But You Totally Just Said His Name.

12:12 PM
Concept: What is that thing
Psychic: What is that thing
Commander: What is that thing
Intrigue: What is that thing
Omega: Why is nobody answering me

Char Gar Gothakon: Shut Up.
It would be interesting to see if I could make someone who SEEMED that way, but wasn't.

@BESW seemed what way?

All Imperturbably Eldritch and stuff.

I'm imagining that as being what we'd get if we took the first few pages of Atomic Robo volume 3 and observe H.P. Lovecraft's part in reverse.
beginning with, y'know, his dramatic exit. (or entry in this case.)

DARKNEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

12:18 PM
@Lord_Gareth Hi!

@Lord_Gareth Well yeah, it's night time.

@Lord_Gareth Pray you never get a lisp.

@BESW [snort]

How's tricks all?

Tricky...

12:27 PM
Good! I just remade Stellata with BESW and she is brilliant! docs.google.com/document/d/…
I'm not so excited I'm showing it to everyone at all!

But pretty good! Wax doesn't seem to be answering questions lately, so I've been cleaning up on 5e.

@doppelgreener I'm still trying to figure out how to get Codename: GARM made out.
I'm having trouble reading through the FATE SRD for learning character creation.
I really, really, want dead tree.

@Lord_Gareth You can download the pdf and get it printed at your local print shop. They've got a blurb on it which says it's legally okay.

@BESW With local prices, dead tree would be cheaper.
The print shops in this town charge like they're the guys who run college computer labs.

Wow.

12:34 PM
@BESW Much gouge, very capitalism.

such money.
Oh, man. So few skills, such high ranks in them.

Morning

1:41 PM
@BESW morning, thanks for the heads up. Forget how many SE sites there are

Ryan's here because he said this:
in The Ink Spot, 4 mins ago, by Ryan
Have you heard of Roll20.net? I found that this morning, it sounds like it might be fun
And I have to go to bed.
Have fun, everybuggy.

lol night

@BESW Night

I'm looking for something fun to play with my girlfriend online. Found Roll20.net which sounds promising. Not sure if its too complicated though.

@ryan it is as complicated or not depending on the system you are using
it has its own wikia to explain dice syntax

1:56 PM
@JoshuaAslanSmith I need to read a lot more on the website but at glance do you have to purchase your own copies of books to make your own character? That's what it looked like to me for most of the stuff I saw... I could be wrong though. I've never really played any paper RPG

yeah basically roll20 is merely a digital tabletop tool

you need to decide which rpg system you're going to use, and then use it on Roll20. Some systems are free, some not

someone needs a copy of the game being run to actually know what they are doing
@Ryan I would highly recommend D&D 5e basic or Dungeon World, both are available for free (5e basic because WOTC is hosting it, Dungeon World because their copyright license explicitly calls for free distribution).

Ah okay. Do you all know of anything that's just turn it on and play? Just look for something a bit more fun then Chess / Words with Friends
My girl has more DND experience than me but still might be hard to find time and whatnot to play together

@Ryan When you say just turn it on and play, does that bar learning a system?

2:00 PM
@Ryan oh, you might be in the wrong spot then, our site is exclusively for pen and paper rpgs. If you are looking for a videogame experience Arcade is probably a better place for recommendations

No we can learn. Just was more interested in ones that can be done in a single day. I saw a few on roll20 that were one day campaigns

@Ryan ah, so that would be if you joined someone else's game
they had the things though, those single day big playthroughs would probably be expecting experiences players

do you have an idea of what genre you want to play? Fantasy?

Nope not too picky on theme.

If you want REALLY simple then there's things like Roll for shoes or cthulhu dark

2:05 PM
like my roommate has this game Munchkin I hear is fun. I guess I was hoping to find something like that but online

ah, muchkin is a card game
hmmm you might wanna check out boardgames.stackexchange.com for that kind of experience
they would probably be a better source to recommend boardgames online

ah okay. I was really just talking to someone in graphicdesign when BESW told me to come here. Blame him :P
thanks for the tips though! I'll go lurk around the boardgames exchange. Might try the Roll20 on my own though

@Ryan well, Roll20 is an RPG tool

totally fine
@Ryan glad you stopped by and if you have questions about pen and paper RPGs we can help

2:51 PM
@molot I know you specifically asked for classless in your question but I thought I'd suggest Dungeon World here in chat since it meets all of your other criteria

3:02 PM
@waxeagle herro

heya
we should be on for this week if the others are free

huzzah
need my ranger fix since my other 5e game is feeling pretty meh right now

good deal :)

they started diong 2 sessions a week within the same campaign/progression and you only get XP for participating, and Im definitely not palying with them 2 nights a week lol so I feel like its a losing game.

bummer

3:10 PM
yeah
how are you

doing well, this might be our last game this year though. Next few weeks are nutso

oh totally

3:36 PM
I have a question about AoO in Pathfinder. Does a touch spell count as a melee attack for the purpose of making an AoO?

no clue.
(not my system)

@Phorden ask it as an actual question on the site
none of the PF users are active in chat right now

@JoshuaAslanSmith k ty
Are there any WoD Players in here by chance?

I used to play 15 years ago, does that count? :p

@TimB It will if you know nWoD, but I am going to guess you would know the old system better.

3:42 PM
@Phorden If the touch spell is already cast then yes. But if you need to cast it no you can't cast as an AoO unless you have a special ability.

@Aaron okay, so they would have to had it already cast before the AoO would occur is how I understand it?

@aaaron thank you for coming back lol

@Phorden Right. So for example the Magus spell Chill Touch which lets you use it as many times as your level. So if you don't use all of the attacks on your turn and then you make an AoO the spell would effect your AoO.

@Phorden Nah, I only played when it was still oWoD

4:00 PM
@Aaron ty

4:12 PM
On that note I must retreat as I am very busy today and I know if I leave this open I will keep looking at it. See you guys later

4:24 PM
@JeorMattan sorry I missed your invitation to chat. Your issue is indeed complex, and almost certainly beyond what could reasonably be asked in one question on the site. I would like to direct you to the official Savage Worlds forums. @ peginc.com/forum/index.php, where this type of conversion task sometimes comes up. There are even a few users who have designed tools specifically to assist with this type of thing

Hi there

hiya

Whats up

not too much, just workin

nm whats up with you
@MattCristao anything we can help you with?

4:31 PM
naw not right now :P

lurk away
@waxeagle would you recommend the DMG?
I feel sorta obligated to buy it since I didnt need to buy a single 5e product yet lo
and with my 4e sub lapsed 5e is probably gonna be my main rep generator now

@JoshuaAslanSmith I think so. Jerry is tweeting right now with some pre-review thoughts, and I think he's on point. It's not the book I want (and I don't think it's the book they claimed it would be), but it's not a bad book, and it's an important book. It's definitely a useful book

gotcha
I mean I think the previews slowly revealed it wasnt going to be the modular toolkit all of us 4e advocates were expecting

yeah, I feel like they felt tied to the expectations of what a DM book should be (a compendium of magic items), instead of making the book they really wanted to make
it certainly doesn't live up to the "hacker's guide" moniker they gave it early on
it would need a ton more optional rules

@Miniman any reason you linked a 3.5 question in your 5e answer
@waxeagle we can only dream of setting splats and additional rule variant books
if they made a Tacticians guide or something like that with heavy 4e style rules variants Id pay like 20 bucks for that

4:37 PM
I'll definitely be interested in how the system continues to develop

4:56 PM
@Phil thanks!
