12:00 AM
lol

@hbdgaf Office and Skyrim.

This is why I dropped ~300 quid on a brix ;p

@hbdgaf totally

@Whaaaaaat: or and a linux VM

@Whaaaaaat I hear @Mateo runs Skyrim acceptably, and I know I can run office just fine.

12:02 AM
I hve been convincing a partner for the last two months to drop the Windows crap and start playing with the real word. Last night he googled docker and now my job is done ;)

@hbdgaf Onenote with pen support?

@Whaaaaaat That's not office. That's a recipe for lazy.

@hbdgaf ?

@Mateo or that
@Lucio do me a favor and google "docker gui" and tell me what the second result is

12:04 AM
anyways, I type better than I can write, so a handwriting program wouldn't be much use to me

ddg.gg should do it
no it doesn't

I was serious. I'ld like to know if you see the second result that I do

shipyard

I know, I know.. let me open a new tab... the tab #6543..

Hah, funny.

12:06 AM
resources.infosecinstitute.com/*
I guess that is not what you want to
take into account results are extremely customized on each user metadata basis

@Lucio that's exactly what I was looking for. My article in the top 2 ;)

oh right, I forgot >-<
sorry
bookmarked..

haha, change the reading level, and it brings "docker 101" on youtube ;p

It isn't anything spectacular. Just a sprint from "no dockerized gui" to "in docker with a gui" in a weekend.

/me installs cygwin because he wants bash

12:12 AM
yours came in fourth on mine, cool that you are in top results

it was completely by accident. either the SEO guy is really good (he was nice, but not a rocket scientist) or more people should be talking about it. the article was relatively crap, but it still pulls rankings. so, more people should be doing case study's for sure.
@Mateo the message I was trying to convey ^^

you know what, screw it
i'm just going to install every cygwin package ever.

Good. Maybe you'll find out cygwin isn't worth it and get the two applications you want to run in wine ;)

I'll do that one Wine has pen/tablet support.

@hbdgaf ROTFL

12:17 AM
@Mateo How much lag do you get on Skyrim/Wine?

@Whaaaaaat pens should look like mice. so the problem isn't pens/tablets or wine. it's poor application programming.

@hbdgaf no gdiplus.dll, among other things

You do know that you can rip out random DLLs and add them to the DLL overrides list in wine right?

tried that
it did not work.

@Whaaaaaat not too much at all, but I am on a GeForce GTX 760

12:19 AM
@Mateo 750m here.
i might try it later
another issue is a lack of razer driver support for linux

@Whaaaaaat half the problem is I'm running "wine-1.7.30" and the bug is against a REALLY OLD wine version.

@hbdgaf still is current

do the, install steam through playon then install it, I think there was a small fix for sound

I use PoL for evyerything

that you had to have it do a extra dll install for

12:21 AM
still, idk how razer devices work with linux
esp. the deathstalker ultimate

I think I'm done trying to be the voice of reason on this one. Suffice it to say, people have things working that others don't, but if vendors want their stuff to work, they should talk to people that are the walking epitome of the old movie "BIG" with Tom Hanks. They're all toys anyway.

i really really want to get away from the windows os.
i can't stand it.

Then look for rooms in buildings close to the center. They never have windows. Sometimes they have skylights. So, redacted....

> ImportError: No module named 'forms'

import path probably moved since some module was written. to the googles.

12:25 AM
supernice

Q: ImportError Exception Value: No module named forms

Chad.McNamaraI've went through most of the similar questions here on SO and so far haven't found one to help me narrow this down. I'm running into this error and haven't been able to solve it yet. I originally had to fight with a few files for mixing tabs and spaces. Now that I have got rid of that error, I...

Or it moved and this was someone being exceptionally oopsie and posting it online.

huh. wonder if i could install synapse on wine

@hbdgaf it was like -> from forms import etc | when it should be like -> from site.forms import ...

so, it moved from where you expected it. guessed right first time.

yep

12:34 AM
you'll find a lot of that if you switch from python2 to python3. things not importing the way you expect them to. then you think about why they failed, and you're like "why did that EVER work..."

heh, exactly

remember when we talked about the from app.ui.something import somethingelse? now you understand why i think it's an awesome design pattern. it works both places and makes sense the whole time.

mm... three days ago someone told me I have fly memory. At least I remember that :P
but no, I don't remember that talk :/

1:14 AM
it was months ago. no fault in not remembering it.

After all the updating and stuff my hard drive failed today :-(

Q: How apt-get handle my manual installed software?

NickSupporse the emacs version in apt repository is 24.3, I configure && make install my own emacs 24.4. After a long time, the software in apt repository updated to 24.5. What would apt do when I run apt-get update && atp-get safeupgrade? What's the general way to let apt handle my manual installed...

is 57 centigrade an okay temp for a qaud core cpu with little load?

2:38 AM
hm, let me see what my temp is.
@TheX My CPU is currently at ~61 C.
I haven't been doing anything intense..
one thread is running at %30 though. I bet that's flash player somewhere..

I see... I guess I am just use to my other computer running about 45-50 with its big fancy cooling system

@TheX It depends on which CPU. That is not considered high for any I know of though. For example, my i7 can safely go above 80, is often at ~70 and idles at 45-56.

3:02 AM
Twitter is exploding right now.
can i have a VTR?

4 hours later…
6:39 AM
@JourneymanGeek i like virtual box, or vmware. I wasn't able to get certain isos to load in kvm, but I hear it is nice (was trying to get manjaro to work I believe)
@JourneymanGeek I really was trying to be safe, I just didn't see that Fedora was installing as LVM instead of GPT, so that's why I made the whole jump around and "EFI messing with"

7:21 AM
hi guys!
@Oli, I finally managed to restore Unity interface
it even runs plain smoothly
just had to purge gnome3 ppa and delete my old user profile

MukzHow Can I get System Serial Numbers in Linux Machines ? i prefer to get this through a non root account and dont want to use external commands such as dmidecode or lhal

How do I enforce HDD sleep / spin down?
4 hits only for "hdd sleep OR spin" ;____; => http://askubuntu.com/search?q=hdd+sleep+OR+spin

It's not like I'd run it on anything important anyway
So I'd have to use hdparm -B<num> -S <num> /dev/sda, where <num> is a hardware-dependant value, and that command might or might not destroy my HDD
However, leaving my fileserver on 24/7 will also damage it on the long run
nice

2 hours later…
4:07 PM
how do you get +11 rep? that's a new one for me :D

4:19 PM
@Rinzwind +20 -9(divided up any number of ways)
@terdon icores run hot normal

Q: odroid/ubuntu - getting wlan to start

ethrbunnyIm working with an 'odroid' fanless PC. The latest OS attempt on it is the stock Ubuntu 14.04 that comes with it. Have made some progress getting the networking (eth0) started but am having issues with the wireless. Per dmesg I see this: [ 7.504855] usbcore: registered new interface driver r...

5:28 PM
hello
need some help
@Mateo where at thou?

I'm around
what's up

I need to make
an algorithm
for matrix multiplication
help

that sounds a bit over my head

:(

never took anything past algebra in highschool ;p
did do a bit of statistics in college though...

5:34 PM
I thought you had programming knoweldge

I can "program"
but it is mostly all self taught stuff
so, you might be saying something that just dosn't translate, drop some examples
that way someone else can see as well, and maybe we can help

wait
Desig an algorithm to print out the followin pattern;
&&&&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&&&&&
@Mateo there ^^
hi @jokerdino you can help too if you can

for i in `seq 1 10`;
        do
                echo "&&&&&&&&&&&&"
        done
does it need a missing & on the first one?

5:51 PM
nope

or do you want the pattern to repeat forever?
to just keep it going:
while true; do
echo "&&&&&&&&&"
done
not sure if this is what you mean by algorithm, hope it helps some
it might be more complex depending on how they want you to print it, or what language
like do you need to print the "&" separately, then send a line break?

yes there should be a line break and it should end after 10 lines
and since its an algorithm its language agnostic
anyone using any language should be able to do it in their language of choice

so that is in a bash script there

@Mateo I do not have any negative rep :=)

@Rinzwind do you have the deleted posts hidden?

6:04 PM
nope!

ah, then did you un-downvote one question?
that might not have shown

nope!

strange...

i never downvote :=)
yeah :P I am almost certain the green +11 should have been +10\

that is a big nose on your smiley face ;p

6:06 PM
@Rinzwind hi

\o

thank you @Mateo

here in python:

that 's a lot of &''s :P

for x in range(0, 10):
    print "&&&&&&&&&&&&"
there we go

6:08 PM
even more :-)

well, I filled up my terminal history ;)

:D

Q: "You can only post once every 20 minutes."

MichaelWhy can I only post once every 20 minutes? I have not posted a question in that last twenty minutes, I've only posted one answer. Does this rule apply to all users or just new users? At a minimum the count for questions and answers should be separated and the dialog box should be clear whether it...

6:41 PM
20min? I think it's been a year since my last question.

holy crap.
600 rep in one day?

ok, back to scope building for me, adding departments :)

What do you think of an "answer lock"?
Basically, once someone starts writing an answer, there is a 5-minute period where other's can't answer. It ends if the user navigates away or submits the answer
@muru Srsly? stealin mah answer?

Q: How do I type an 'æ' character?

StarkersI've tried alt+0198but it doesn't work. I guess that only works in Windows. How do I type it in Ubuntu? Copy-pasted for my title :)

this question has become an answer warzone

7:01 PM
This fits in so many places... I'll just post it randomly youtube.com/watch?v=ZnHmskwqCCQ

other news, i'm on twitter now: twitter.com/mateosalta42

sup @Mateo

not too much

one of these days man, one of these days.

@Whaaaaaat Muhuhahahahah.... (other answer gets accepted)... Oh.

7:45 PM
fwiw, i play borderlands completely differently with that soundtrack ;)

awesome, I need to start playing that one again

@Mateo I'm at about 20 with my siren. The music seems to fit as I run about with a massive shotfun and the phaselock ability. typo intentional
I invested in the healing skill tree, so you get instares with phaselock if we co-op with your zero and my siren btw.

8:02 PM
@hbdgaf sweet, we'll have to play some after the scope contest
I got a working framework for departments now

8:16 PM
nice. i'm playing with using anaconda to get all my deps right for some python and getting pandas up to not ancient versions so i can use postgres instead of csv

Q: Unable to type input to serial command interface

user36622I am trying to communicate with a device with a serial command interface. dmesg shows that: [ 2465.467579] usb 3-1: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0 ls -pla /dev/ttyUSB* shows that: crw-rw-rw- 1 root dialout 188, 0 Nov 25 16:26 /dev/ttyUSB0 I have made sure to inclu...

9:36 PM
@Mateo sounds like the scope is coming along well.

I think I'll get together something decent for the contest :)
@NathanOsman I'm going to do a list of some ubuntu rss's, can I list the 2buntu rss in there, It basically just pulls the text info from the rss

Sure!
That would be awesome.

with google doing the rss->json bit
so, I'm going to try and do that first. With the put a custom address in, and get back any feed as a secondary goal if I have time

10:04 PM
@muru you will not win a 3rd time today :=)

2 hours later…
11:46 PM
@terdon - someone gave me the 100 back... the powers that be at SE I would suppose. Just one of those things.
