@Larry I notice that virtually the same answer appeared under a different username on another question too...

1:41 PM
@Paulster2 She was asking you to clean it up or close it as she didn't have the rep to do so
@Paulster2 We are getting out of debt, on the Dave Ramsey Plan, so I'll have plenty of money to hot rod in a few years.
@NickC Yes, it appears to be the same user. One account is registered the other is not. Maybe just confusion on a new user on how to sign in to their account.

@Larry Hey, I'd be quicker on the riposte if I weren't ... real far from home right now.
WIFI here is frankly ass.

@Larry ... I really need to get on the Snowball Plan ... Dave is the man. You and your spouse really have to be committed to make it happen. Rice and beans does not appeal to my wife, so you get the idea why I haven't started yet. She seems to agree with the overall concept/philosophy, but not the commitment to do it. I've made the commitment not to create any new bills (cars or credit), so that will help things in the long run, but it will take a lot more time.
@BobCross ... out of town, eh? Was wondering why we hadn't seem much of you lately. They shut me down at work ... I can no longer access the MVM&R SE site, though I can reach all the rest. The product of that is, I don't have the ability to answer questions while at work anymore. Taking a break is no longer quite the same, lol.

Yeah, I'm in one of those [places]
The iphone SE app isn't bad.

@Paulster2 Go to FPU, it's hard not to be on board after that. "What could you do if you had no payments"
Dream a little, I just thought my wife was on board until we spent the week at a friends lake house. The had an open house in the same community we went to, and she caught the dream of what we could do and now I practically have to take inventory when I go home to see if she sold anything. She literally asked me two nights ago if she could sell the kitchen table. "We never use it we should sell it"
@BobCross Enjoy it! One of the best things about where we go camping is that I don't even have phone service much less internet access.

@Larry ... Oh, I understand. We just have things like year round swim for the daughter, which is hopefully our investment into her future. We're hoping she will use her talents to pay for college. It's $2k per year. Do we give up on that for her? Hard choice. I know it wouldn't be a hard choice for Dave, but not so crystal clear for us.

8:19 PM
@Larry ... Haha! I'm trying to catch up to you and Bob in points, but I keep up voting your answers ... not good ... not good at all <face palm>

8:37 PM
@Paulster2 Don't think so, I think he would tell you if you really think you have a good chance of that he would tell you it's fine. It's all about ratios, if you make 20k a year and your spending 10% on swimming it would be out of line, on the other hand based on your income it might only be a drop in the bucket. And finally $2000 a year isn't keeping you from getting out of debt. If it's important you can find ways to make it work within reason of course.
Not trying to tell you what to do, or preach at you. Sometimes things typed come off the wrong way. So in no way am I telling you what you are doing is right or wrong
The biggest thing that helped me was doing a written budget. It forces me to realize what I am taking money away from when we decide to spend it on something else.
So if I see a new tool, gadget [enter vise here] in the moment it's easy for my brain to not think about what I am taking that money away from. I am just thinking about what I am getting. When I do the budget I have to take all the finances into consideration when I want to spend money on whatever. It's hard to think about the whole picture when you've got the fever buy/do whatever you are getting ready to spend money on.
Good example we recently decided to spend money on. We need a new hot tub cover for our hot tub to be useful without it costing a huge amount in electricity and chemicals. So do we send almost $500 on one. We decided it was okay to delay the snowball to purchase the cover because it's a relativly free activity for us. It's almost a date night when we use the hot tub together under the stars and before the cover became useless we used it 3 - 4 times a week. It helps with stress, it's relaxing
We spend quality time together all for very little money. With a good cover it only used about $20 a month in electricity and chemicals
But if we did that every month our snowball would take much longer.
wow that's almost a @BobCross wall of words. in Chat! Until now I hadn't gotten to warning that my message was to long in the chat box.
I think we should start calling it affectionately BCWOW
@Paulster2 Nah, I vote for your answers too. You'll get us both on shear volume alone, not that you don't write good answers, you do, you just have more time to put into the site.

8:58 PM
Not here recently since they took my ability away to look at it at work. Not that I don't try to give others a chance to put their own two cents worth in. I know one of the things they look at for to get out of Beta is an average of answers. If we don't have enough, it doesn't look good. I really don't understand how we will get that many multi-answered questions, though. If it doesn't involve opinion, there usually is only one really correct answer.

You've got 10k in less than a year, it took Bob and I about 3 to get there. You'll be the Jon Skeet of Mechanics before you know it.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ... Who's John Skeet?
No clue, lol ;-)

Q: Jon Skeet Facts

Bill the LizardI'm looking for Chuck Norris Facts style answers. In case anyone is curious, this question was inspired by Jon's own comment to this question. EDIT: If you're into cryptography, you may enjoy these facts. Now with official sanction from the powers that be!

Yes, that will take maybe two years, three tops ...

And that's rep from ONE site, not all the sites
@Paulster2 That's the spirit!

9:07 PM
Yes, I'm sure if that occurred on SE central, it probably took a couple of years to accomplish, as well as the traffic there has got to be about 200x what it is on here, lol.

@Paulster2 Oh yes and SO was the first site, so it's been around the longest

As well as a TON of great answers. I usually write good answers, which are always based on how well someone else describes their issues (Midas commercial comes to mind ... at least I think it was Midas).
I guess the main thing here is that we really aren't trying to compete, but really trying to get out the best answers we can. The points only allow us to punch our man cards a bit, lol ... for those of us who are competitive in the man world, anyway (ROFLMBO!)
Haha! They need a "Platinum" level badge for some of Jon's answers, lol! 5700+ upvotes for one answer? Does he buy upvotes?? ;-)
@Larry ... well, need to go and purchase some dinner ... glad this is coming out of the Mo-In-Law's budget and not mine ;-)
Have a great evening.

@Paulster2 On this point, you are correct on hard to have X number of answers. When there is a good answer I usually upvote and move on, I have a limited amount of time and unless the answer is missing something major or there is another approach I spend my time answering a different question.

Exactly.

@Paulster2 You too, have a great weekend!

9:15 PM
I probably waste too much time on here as it is, but I'm trying to help get us out of Beta sooner rather than later. I'm almost glad they took away the access at work ... I can actually get something done there now ;-)
@Larry ... daughter's birthday tomorrow. Should be a good weekend.
