Guys do you know what moderator must go over to approve account? What does he check actually? All he has is registration details so how can he see something fishy from such information?
also, 802.11ac could communicate faster than 100 Mbps between wireless clients connected to the router irrespective of its ethernet functionality
assuming an ideal uplink that can saturate 100 Mbps ethernet, you'd be hard-pressed to deploy an effective, reliable implementation of 802.11n or one of the older standards that could actually give that entire pipe to one (or even a handful of separate) wireless clients, but 802.11ac can do it easier
@Bob well, I'm not sure if GbE chip cost has come down to the point where it's not significantly more expensive than 100 Mbps, but if you remember, a number of years ago, GbE was as expensive (and the cards were ridiculously huge and only available for full scale servers and desktops, not lappies or embeddeds) as 10G is today
economy of scale + die shrinks probably helped a lot, but still, it may wind up being more than 3 cents difference
the other thing to consider is the CPU throughput required to push a gigabit smoothly across two separate PHYs (gigabit coming through ethernet, then copied over to wifi)
the CPU might peg (or the bus might bottleneck) before it can push that much data, so GbE makes little sense in that case without buying a more expensive SoC
which would significantly drive up the cost of the whole unit
@Bob on consumer kit, the SoC does pretty much everything except the PHY/radios
judging from how cheap (and low clock, and low spec, and old fab, etc) the MIPS SoCs used in most routers are, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it could only push, say, 400 or 500 Mbps across the widest available system bus (FSB or equivalent) and not be able to even haul a gigabit
they need to move to ARM >_<
it's not like ARM SoCs are expensive! they're just faster :P
My knowledge of computer hardware is fairly extensive, however it is apparent that this is not the case when considering types of operating systems. I've gone by the rule of thumb for years that if a machine is over 4GB, install a 64bit version in order to use all that memory, and the opposite fo...
The confusion about choosing 32 or 64 bit OS for these processors comes from the fact the x86_64 is not a 64 bits processor but and extension for memory addressing only. They are 32 bits processors.
That's why you don't need to install a 64bit version of your OS if you don't have 4GB or more RAM...

@Bob I couldn't find the SoC used in that specific router, but I found a SoC used in a D-Link 802.11n router (the router itself appears to be pretty okay one, at first glance), and it has a MIPS processor at up to 680 MHz, single core, with DDR1 SDRAM, a PCI 2.3 33 or 66 MHz system bus, and 100 Mbps ethernet. it claims it can do 450 Mbps 802.11n.
presumably if they want to support AC they're using something a bit more powerful, but even that little guy can push 450 Mbps? ooooookay, if you say so D-Link, lol
I remember seeing a film years ago with a "ditzy blonde" girl singing the "if you're happy and you know it song" in the shower (not porn btw) and she couldn't understand why she kept dropping the sponge....
I don't know why, but I still find that surprisingly funny.
probably for the same reason that this is my most favourite gif in all the world...
there was a vid up on youtube by Machinima (I'm subbed to them because of their funny Skyrim videos) about a certain website offering to plant an uncapped number of trees based on the number of... videos watched on their website on Arbor Day, which IIRC was earlier this week
so the message was, "watch videos at this site and trees shall be planted, helping the environment"
@allquixotic Did you change your display picture yet again? When you posted here, it's the star trek dude still, but up above, it's the frowny face on the Windows 8 BSOD

@allquixotic I don't change my username anymore. What's the point when everyone here knows my real name?
By the way, thanks for reminding me! I almost forgot!
It's a new month, time to annoy @Boris_yo get a new avatar... again
