Q: Introducing a concept to twist on it - problem

SpiffeahI'm writing a short film (< 5 minutes) and i'm having trouble with how to introduce a concept in order to deliver a (admittedly minor) twist. The story is called "My Angel", and is about self protection. The main character gets set upon by thugs, who intend to rape her, and she fights them off...

Q: Is My Essay Free of Logical Fallacies?

user3179580I just finished writing this essay and so my ability to impartially judge it is impaired. Please critique. A couple of things: The essay is supposed to use a recent controversy in the art world as a launchpad to explore the societal implications of censorship; specifically, does censorship hel...

I have a feeling that the question is too broad. It is more about judging the essay rather than a critique question. However, I am not too sure (hence have not (yet) voted to close). Opinions on the same?

I'm not a regular contributor to Writers but I feel that such questions have little value on this site and therefore are, or should be, off-topic.

2:41 PM
@PraveshParekh - I agree that this is a general critique in disguise. If we can get a couple of community votes to close I'll finish it off.
@PraveshParekh - Time permitting, I'll be at the writing exercise.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Will you be around today?

2:55 PM
@NeilFein I plan to be. weather, work, etc, permitting.

I haven't written creatively in ages.

Me neither. Not since my failed nano

The other day I did 5 mins of automatic writing. that helped clear out some cobwebs

Gonna give this until a quarter after, then let's get started.

I'l be back in a bit. I've just made dinner

Okay, let's get started. Topic: "It was all a dream." Roughy 200 words, you have 10 minutes. Go!

Ah!
OK.

Writing exercise, "It was all a dream"

I was having trouble focusing. The light streaming in from the window made the room look cheery and bright, but I felt groggy and grey. The yellow and green walls of my room were glowing with sunlight and warmth, but images of a sheer cliff and a rock face stayed in my mind.

I sat up, pushing the blankets aside.

There was something from the dream... something about walking through a dark forest, on a rough trail that ended in midair. I had the urge to keep walking, and had to fight it. In the dream, I had images of what it would be like to fall dow

Reminds me of Zork.

You are in a room of twisty, moonlit hiking paths, all alike.
That was fun! Just you and I?
If anyone else wants another topic, I'll do it at 1:45.

They'll be back at some point.

5:28 PM
I'm sure.
@KitFox - I pinned yours and mine to the sidebar.
So Henry was obsessed with making big skid marks and killing the bike tire?

Yes. Naturally.

Mine was about a cliff face I remember from a park in northern NJ.

Did you jump off it?

Was looking at some pics of that trip earlier today. I was there in '08 and '09.
No, just camped there and did a little hiking.
There's no valley in real life, though. Just a lot of tree tops.

5:45 PM
Anyone else here want to write? I can give out another prompt.

I love it! "revealing the hidden cattle prod"

If I had a cattle prod the world would be a zappier place

hee hee hee

In dream sequences I can nurture my inner sociopath
So now that we've all written about dreams, what do our various dreams say about us?

6:02 PM
You're a murderer, Kit's afraid of skidding down a driveway, I'm afraid I'll fall off a cliff.

@MattЭллен I knew I could count on you to pick the other interpretation of "it was all just a dream" :)

yay!
I am awkward

Nice!

I've decided to excel in it

6:19 PM
@MattЭллен Not awkward! It was one of the interpretations I considered using.

I like the ten minutes writes. Taking an idea an running with it is fun.

I think we should try harder topics. Like one time we had to use certain words or something. That gets the most varied output.

That'd be fun.

Q: When is a screen shot really useful in training documentation?

FuhrmanatorSoftware products evolve more rapidly each day. Technical documentation for those products must also follow their evolution. One of the biggest challenges is to maintain screen shots when the graphical user interface (GUI) changes. An easy way to reduce the pain of updating screen shots is not ...
