1:01 AM
@hichris123 Around?
I have need of you.

1:33 AM
@Undo arrives
I am now.

@hichris123 What article did you end up using for setting up a Git server?

@Undo Well... none. :P I just used a GitHub like service, and set it up like GitHub.
^ That one

oh, okay
thanks

15 hours later…
4:47 PM
@Undo Have you seen Frozen?

@hichris123 nope.
And don't plan to.

@Undo Everyone I know says it's awesome... and I haven't seen it. :P So... maybe I'll see it?

:P
From what I've seen of short clips and whatever, the CG looks amazing

Yeah. And the sound tracks... :D

5:22 PM
/me loves the soundtrack

/me doesn't really care :P

But...it's awesome!

-_-

Here I am, an almost-non-teen-slash-grown-man-slash-old-fogey trying to convince a 14 year old (15? I forget) to watch a pixar movie :P

rofl
14
but yeah

5:28 PM
@ManishEarth You've convinced me. :P

I don't really watch movies

Harry Potter @Undo?

nope
never even read the books

@Undo WHAT????

5:29 PM
hehehe
yeah, I'm really not in touch with modern entertainment

I used to be similar. Once in college you sorta feel like watching everything you get your hands on

Which anyone could tell by looking at my TV. It's an 18" thing from 1987
But I've got to go now, cya folks!

goes to eat

Programming is modern entertainment
6

true

5:30 PM
What's more entertaining than making stuff? And the modern way of doing that is .....

@ManishEarth Only when you're like Why isn't this code working??? Oh, I just forgot a ;.
Or similar stuff. :P

<-- this old fogey reads. A lot.
@hic check out Rust. Crazy treatment of semicolons

Wait, @ManishEarth is old???? Since when do college kids call themselves old?
@ManishEarth I'll look. :P

Also three types of pointers. And named lifetimes. And explicit mutability. Doesn't let you shoot yourself in the foot with pointers at compile time

Eeeeek!

5:33 PM
Basically, segfaults are impossible. Unless you explicitly mark a portion of code as unsafe
Neither does it rely on a GC (which is what makes java slow). It has a GC, but that usually is not needed.
Rust is teh awesome.
Oh, also, it's strongly typed but has smart type inference

Looks quite confusing for a person coming from Java. :P

3 hours later…

Earth Science

Proposed Q&A site for those interested in the geology, meteorology, oceanography, and environmental sciences.

Currently in commitment.

^ lol, 100% activity score, 80% of the way to 200 commits. :D

8:24 PM
I return from my sojourn away from chatland.

... and I've already listened to this another half-dozen times. :P

:P

@hichris123 that one is strong...

@Braiam Yeah, strong with high-rep SE users.

> 26.9% Expert
35.0% Academic

8:29 PM
That too.
wonders what happened to @Undo because of the smiting stick

I deflected it with my diamond

2 hours later…
10:24 PM
Anyone here?

@3ventic I am

I can't figure out why a regex of mine isn't working

uh-oh
regex problems
What's wrong?

I think I figured it out

oh

10:32 PM
let me check

neat tool: rubular.com

Yep, it was a \n at the end of the string I was matching

If you're using a regex... that's the problem. :P
3

Yeah. Although when used right they're fun

error: unable to unlink old 'README' (Permission denied)
error: unable to unlink old 'base.php' (Permission denied)
error: unable to unlink old 'index.php' (Permission denied)

10:36 PM
` msg = msg.replace(/^!(?:https?|ftps?):(\/\/[a-zA-Z0-9.:-]+\/?[a-zA-Z0-9._~:\/?#[]@!$‌&'()*\+,;=%-]*\.(png|jpg|jpeg|gif))$/, '<a href="$1" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"><img src="$1" class="user-image"/></a>');`

Halp!

@hichris123 Have fun! :P

I'm making a chat.SE clone

(tried sudo?)

well, sort of

10:37 PM
@Undo Wow.... that's very constructive help. :P
@Undo Yeah.... I'd have to make a new key though. :(

oh
uhmm...

it's not even nearly done though

SSH in to the server and chown -R the file to your git user?

sudo chmod -R 777 *
^ Would that work?

10:38 PM
probably

uhmmmm

it should, whether it's a good idea or not is another question

yeah, you won't ever have a permission error again
like anyone ever

I wouldn't recommend using it in /

and I will attack your machine and gain access and do something hilarious.

10:40 PM
like rm -r /?

nah, that's more evil
it's in the mod agreement not to be evil

Only inside SE

well true

@Undo ... like what?

hmmmmmm

10:46 PM

Aborting
Grr!
@Undo How do I fixy that?

oh gosh
not sure
how important are those images? :P

@Undo I can just rm -f them.
They're on my local laptop and on the git server.

I dunno

Well, can I fix the permissions at least?
:P

I have no idea

11:00 PM
Okay.... fixed it.
