I used a private window to get the real numbers since mines will not have the ones I already reviewed

Oli
I was wondering if we petitioned to have the close privilage lowered to 2,000 if that would improve things but that would only add another 2 pages of users (to make 10 pages in total). That's not as big an increase as I'd have expected. We have a strange reputation spread.
(Where 1 page = 36 users)

we have more 3kers than 2kers actually

Oli
Hmm, they're all surprisingly active. Checked 8 accounts and they've all logged in this year. Curious. Very curious.

we maybe need community ads advertising the close queue as SO did

@Braiam A 5-a-day programme might not be an awful idea.

Q: Why are there different styling in Meta from AskUbuntu?

WilfI have noticed this a while, but it is just a bit weird. Styling differences occur between different StackExchange sites. The most notable is the <kbd> tag, most of which render the contents of posts like what is on AskUbuntu. On AskUbuntu, <kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Tab</kbd> looks like: Where as h...

@HelpingHand - you're using wpa2 and hostapd?

@Braiam Yes, the close vote implementation is flawed, it's too easy to fail then audit when you're perfectly aware of what is going on.
I don't know what questions you think don't belong there, so I can't comment on the quality other than to say it seems ok.

i'm only asking because i have some dead code i was working on at one point to move hostapd functionality to userspace with scapy and make it available on any card that had monitor and injection. AP mode bugs would just go away. seems like a valid approach instead of requiring more specific hardware to do something you could easily do in software...
get at me if you want some sample code. i'm crazy buzy though with all the different junk i WANT to play with, the crap i HAVE to play with, and the day job.

I just earned fanatic on meta lol.

12:39 AM
@Seth :)
@NathanOsman DR. NATHAN L. OSMAN, how are you?

look what was about to be closed against that question askubuntu.com/q/427538/169736

jrg
it's note a dupe, why the venom?

12:55 AM
@jrg Braiam's particular pet peeve is dependency issues.

jrg
The question he's referring to contains information to solve 98% of the problems.
the remaining 2% probably aren't solvable here anyway.
or are ubuntu+1 questions

I need to get out of the habit of clicking "edit" to change tags.
Is this a good answer?

A: Can't Get UMASK To Work

Sajan ParikhThe mask has to be essentially the opposite of what you want. A umask of 002 will produce permissions 775. If you want everything to be read and executable by everyone, you'll want the mask to be 000.

@hbdgaf Yes, why?
Or at least trying!

@jrg I'm a firm believer that examples are the best way to change behaviors
whenever I show a non-duplicated is so people rise awareness of when that Q would not help
@jrg they are solvable, I'm living example of that

jrg
@Braiam you are not most people.
Most people will follow instructions. For dependency issues, if the person trying to answer is missing one line of the error, you're screwed.

1:12 AM
@jrg passive aggressive behaviors is a pathological disorder I do not have, so please do not imply I use it...
or use another term more fitting

jrg
gotta run, bbl. @Braiam, we'll discuss this later, you're right, i probably choose the wrong word there, and I apologize for that.

1:37 AM
Anyone think this is a bug?

@Seth ?

what the.
wrong link

blames Oli

Oli
snores innocently

well in that case I've lost the link :-/

1:55 AM
@jrg I'm fine, thank you.
Was my research paper any good?

can a mod close this? askubuntu.com/q/427633/169736
> Thank you for reviewing 20 close votes today; come back in 21 hours to continue reviewing.

@Braiam As what?
ah I see.

2:23 AM
Now you know what those modem squeaks are.

Anyone think this is a bug? askubuntu.com/questions/427762/…

@Seth if it's not is possible that he only needs to restart the system...

@Braiam I understand that one just fine.
@NathanOsman Hah! We should ask on EE. I'd looove to see the looks on their faces >:D

Lol.

2:33 AM
@NathanOsman do you use Windows + VS right?

I can.
Doesn't mean that I usually do.

I want to buy a computer for that setup but I have doubts
Windows 7 + VS2013
Windows 8.1 + VS2013
1.33 Ghz CPU
WHAT TO DO? xD
I'm lost here. No idea about CPU speed, and less about W7 vs W8
DR. NATHAN L. OSMAN is the only one that can solve it :D

2:48 AM
@Lucio The best thing you can do is go somewhere where the actual PC you are looking is and try it out.

Who will have the same PC??
That is 1 in half-million chance
@NathanOsman BTW, that is amazing

3:09 AM
IKR?
@Lucio Go with Windows 8.1.
It's faster than Win7 and you can disable Metro (well not really, but you can avoid booting to it).

jrg
@Lucio go with 8, nathan is right

just what is this? Windows 8 in a Ubuntu room? MADNESS! MADNESS I SAY!

Okay, seriously. Ubuntu fanboi-ism won't get us anywhere.

I second jrg and Dr Nathan.

Every OS has tasks it is well-suited for (well, except for iOS, of course).

3:14 AM
@NathanOsman I'm pretty sure it was a joke..

@NathanOsman are you aware that I use Debian?

lol
@Seth thanks to three of you :)

@NathanOsman, that image was very interesting, is there a more detailed explanation of it somewhere?

lol... YOU'VE GOT PR0N

3:24 AM
Actually, the duck did it :)
> UPDATE 02/2013: Due to numerous requests, I made this into a 42-megapixel poster that Redbubble is selling. Some $4 per poster is directed to the poor nerd who made this.

Q: Is every Napier, algebraic, right-negative ideal combinatorially Artinian and empty?

Dr. Harold SchwartzT. Kumar's characterization of quasi-conditionally smooth, non-uncountable algebras was a milestone in harmonic set theory. It has long been known that $\Omega$ is stable and conditionally multiplicative. Let us suppose that $\Omega > \pi$ and that $e > \mathbf{G}$. It can then be shown that eve...

jrg
@NathanOsman how did you find that paper

Q: We should get "Ubuntu questions on SR" notification in chat

Aditya PatilIn general chat room, we get notification for Ubuntu questions on U&L. I think it would be a good idea to get Ubuntu questions on SR notification as well.

If you insist! ;p

I would like to insist :)

SR means what?

software recommendations

ohhh

11:38 AM
@AdityaPatil: I can't edit the question - maybe you can expand the name and add the link softwarerecs.stackexchange.com to reduce ambiguity?

sure.But why can't you edit?

no idea, its greyed out
Probably not enough rep ;p

lets remove that from the main site

@Braiam Why remove that tag?

@AdityaPatil support what?

11:48 AM
Don't you have mod powers? Can't you just delete it?

Jan 8 at 22:50, by Seth
Even mods can't burn a tag.
btw, I'm not a mod...

Then just edit it saying "Don't Use!!!!!"
I know you aren't mod, but you have 10000+ rep, so you have some mod rights.

@AdityaPatil read this one askubuntu.com/questions/tagged/…

hahaha.........
people don't read tag wikis.

11:51 AM
exactly

just now a question was modified with that tag

this needs more votes meta.askubuntu.com/q/8233/169736

Q: How to dual-boot on a machine with PGP WDE?

Qu0rkPGP Whole disk encryption ("WDE") is an encryption software that encrypts all your data, and includes a bootguard. Because of this, I have been unable to successfully dual-boot, as there is no place to install GRUB. (I did attempt an install, the result of which was a complete loss of my Windows ...

@Braiam Oh, I remember that one.

on the third hand... why the heck is a duplicated being closed of a duplicate of itself?

Q: Do we need a event to clear out the Close Queue?

BraiamIf you follow SO/MSO you will notice an event in the Community Bulletin: If you read up, SE has made some changes to the close queue in hopes to motivate close voters to... review. In the efforts they have fuzzied the numbers of items in the queue, made advertisements for rather obscure tags, ...

@AvinashRaj please, edit the questions too if there's something to improve, like "thanks" "hi" etc.

@Braiam where did you see snakeoil user?

@AvinashRaj that was not a dupe, but a OT

@Braiam he asked so many questions on a single post.

I'ld just close as dupe and move along. I dropped a comment to add a little light to the topic, but it's really just blah.

is this answer correct?

I thought it was free software

free as in money, right now - there is "pro" as well

mmm then I will go for something else..
The following is a list of video editing software. The criteria for inclusion in this list is the ability to perform non-linear video editing. Most modern transcoding software support transcoding a portion of a video clip, which would count as cropping and trimming. However, items in this article have one of the following conditions: # Can perform other non-linear video editing functions such as montage or compositing # Can do the trimming or cropping without transcoding Free and open-source *Avidemux (Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, Windows) *AviSynth (Windows) *Blender VSE (Linux, FreeBSD, M...

don't think they released the source yet - although I think they were moving towards that

6:30 PM
I haven't tried lightworks for the same reason.. I have it installed, but I haven't wanted to register. One of these days I'll probably just do it I suppose.

yeah, I usually just make something up for those things

IT IS USELESS!
I mean, the reg up process..
Why is there people/companies how still use it?

@Lucio unless you are planning to use it professionally which then you would go through all that, but otherwise ~

@Lucio collecting info... same as Lightzone for example.. bad practice

collecting garbage I would say

6:34 PM
I wouldn’t put hand in fire but I believe high percentage of registrants actually put down real names and emails

yeah I have no idea neither. That would be an interesting study :)
But in that case it is still garbage.
Register software is so 90's :P

i believe reason behind is future plans of monetizing it by selling licenses.. if you have an solid database of names of people who downloaded it and used in past it comes useful when you try to sell em licenses

it would give semi decent usage numbers, but it seems most assume the worst based on what other companies have done that have had the same registration

Evan KroskeI'm using PiTiVi to edit a long lecture, and I'd like to split it into manageable chunks, then rearrange the pieces.
