I've added rules to the CRWEC-Reboot meta-post
Rules.

Entries must implement the challenge proposed in the accepted answer here. Implementation details are up to each participant.
There is no platform or language constraint (do it in brainfuck if you dare!).
You can post working parts of your code separately, as you write them.
You can post as many questions as needed to get your solution fully peer reviewed.
The thing is called weekend-challenge because it all started with over-a-single-weekend projects; for this one, we have all month. Rebooted weekend-challenge could be called SpareTime-Challenge. But that would be somewhat lame.
Thoughts? ^^

Q: Portable periodic/one-shot timer implementation

doug65536I have implemented a class that provides portable one-shot or periodic timers. The API provides a way to schedule a timer callback to fire some number of milliseconds in the future, and optionally fire again every so many milliseconds. The API returns an ID which can be used later to see if the...

@lol.upvote I admit the fact that weekends are a sacred time of business user free clarity, I tend to move the minimum amount till monday, the thought of a weekend only challenge seemed to let the wind out of my sails.

The ability to potter at it for an hour or two after work during the week when I am still in coding mood seems much more appealing.

So yeah, weekend challenge may have to be renamed.

How about the Code Review Amusement Programming Challenge instead.... ?

Q: protected/internal Collection paired with public ReadOnlyCollection - best naming?

chrfinThis maybe sounds like a stupid question, but I think good naming is an important part of maintainable und good usabel code. Developer Entertainment Reviewed Project ?

So we drop the tag? :(
perhaps we need a tag à la PCG?

@lol.upvote That seems like the most optimal solution.

yeah, a tag would be weird, and bound to be misused.
I'll retag during lunch, in a bit.. or not.
that would flood the front-page with 24 old questions.

Should I retag a question every ~30 minutes? It's nearly 6pm for me, I have time.

@lol.upvote I edited my answer to say that even posts about a stage 1 design must include code; and, to make it optional/opt-in: to say that people may choose to define and review interface specification before they proceed to implementation.

4:30 PM
tag has been created

@rolfl I wonder if a SEDE query could be created to see how much reputation someone has lost from the reputation cap.

@syb0rg Just sum their votes etc. to get their reputation without the cap, and compare with actual reputation.

@ChrisW That would work.

I just wanted to say, how have i never heard of:
http://ideone.com/ ?
that site is awesome. I am definitely posting my project code with a link to that filled in from now on, dynamic demos are a lot easier than trying to paste in people code into an ide or compile it.

@apieceoffruit I really need to start linking to it more often as well.

4:40 PM
It supports Scala, so it must be good.

if I click the button at the top that appears when there is a suggested edit, it doesn't count on the review queue??? is that correct @Jamal?

4:54 PM
hehe, You've earned the "Nice Answer" badge for Is there a non-sexual phrase for sleeping with someone?. See your profile.
@syb0rg Post the SQL back here when you are done for some more rep for today ;-)

@rolfl upvoted - splitting a bed sounds like a good choice.

Like you split a bill at a restaurant!
^^^ rep lost due to cap ^^^
Not sure of how the numbers add up.... the 'capped' reputation number is low ... ?

what do negative losses mean?

No idea.....
Oh.... I think I know.
There's a difference between the reported reputation for the user, and the reputation you can compute-from-votes
For example, some users arrive with 101 rep.
(like me....), so my reported rep is low because this is last week's data, and it is overreported due to my 101 intake rep..... so I have actually 'lost' almost 700 rep due to cap.
There are some really screwy cases as well, like this: codereview.stackexchange.com/users/8569/…
How does a person with 1 answer, 2 upvotes + accept, no questions, have a rep of 221 ?
Ahh, agian, odd one.... he was deleted and then recreated.... his deleted history is in his rep page, but then when he's re-created, he gets 100 association bonus....
and his previously deleted posts get to accumulate score too, but are not linked to him in SEDE.

5:19 PM
are you counting edits, accepts, etc...? (haven't looked at your query in depth)

Oh... never mind .... the user had an answer on a question migrated from SO from 2011, and then it was closed, deleted, and the user only joined CR later, and earned the catchup rep, and 100 bonus.
Seems the user should never have been awarded the rep on the deleted question when they joined.

I have returned

The Return of the Swedish Jedi.

Welcome back @Simon
Man, I hate it when I'm late to the answer-party.. ^^
Posting after there are already some answers just feels like "No one will see this anyway!"

Not true on CR....
you post the link to the chat.... and it gets seen

5:28 PM
You're right, to be honest.

@lol.upvote The query attempts to calculate reputation manually, and diffs that result against the official score. The negative losses indicate that that manual calculation is inaccurate. For example, it fails to take into account bounties offered, as well as the small bonus for accepting an answer and small penalty for downvoting an answer.

Wouldn't that make me a bit of a "rep whore"? I generally try to avoid that.

it does do bonuses, but not joining reputation.

Oh.. I just found out what TBH means. Learning never stops.

5:29 PM
it also has some anomoloies with individuals, like people who had answers migrated to CR before they joined.

As I said: Learning never stops.
Apparantly "land swimming" is a thing: land swimming

@kleinfreund The Swedish Jedi? Oh, I like that. Almost as good as being called "Monkey".

Everyone should have his name, I believe. :)

@kleinfreund There's a difference between rep-whoring and "announcing an answer that other people should review to determine how good it is"

Ah, this question got migrated from SO. That's why there are so many answers..

5:35 PM
Damn, I'd like to make that sentence even more pretty. Anyone else wants to take a shot at making "rep-whoring" sound fancy? A really good beautification might get a star :)

Have a look at my answer and review it, since comments are too short to let this happen.

@lol.upvote: Were you attempting to replace with ?

Heya @Jamal

5:37 PM
@Jamal it just occurred to me that maybe I shouldn't be doing that - like, leave the old ones with and we'll post the new ones under - and then we can synonymize them

@lol.upvote I think you should define weekend-challenge as a synonym for code-challenge, not vice versa. (if code-challenge should be the "master")
2

@SimonAndréForsberg Exactly what I thought.

@kleinfreund What answer?

Simon, I was talking about your "rep-whoring" beautification. :D

Nope ..... euphamisim for repwhoring.

@lol.upvote Like some "I'm skipping my turn" rule? - how exactly do you mean?

lipstick? where's the pig?

"Have you see this picture of a monkey doing code reviews?"

@sim like you said in your comment

@lol.upvote But if you send me to the top-left board and that is already won, it is I who am in a way "skipping my turn" because my move has no effect on that board. Therefore, it's you who are forcing me to make a move that doesn't have any effect besides where to send you again.

6:04 PM
head hurts. I need to eat. I'll read that again when I see straight.
doesn't "sending you somewhere" imply placing a move? How is that without effect?
