@Chad maybe. I abstained of voting on that question anyway...
maybe. I've been away from TWP for too long (about 3-4 months) to reliably judge subtle issues — gnat 11 hours ago
trying to stick with simpler actions until I'm fully back in the game
Changing the headers was so-so ,but changing the POINT of the question in the text is completely over the top. What kind of practice is that??? I have never experienced this in SO, it's like hijacking a thread. It's completely impolite and disrespectful. I reject it wholy. If anybody can change the question, than having an author is meaningless as we can then have a question committee that will generate a few once in a while and there is no point in questions having an author. as obviously the context of Original Poster's is irrelevant. — Earl Grey 9 hours ago
probably it is worth referring OP to meta; at SO they have funny ideas on editing, and probably no idea at all about editing closed questions...

Q: Aggressive Edits

jmacBackground Today I aggressively edited this question: How can I respond to an uncomfortable working environment beside quitting? When I made the edit, it had no answers, a downvote, and a close vote. Had I not edited, I would have added another close vote and downvote. Here is my edit. After ...

@Earl, because the nature of The Workplace is so much different than other sites in the SE network, we have a very different stance on editing. A closed question doesn't help people, so we often make aggressive edits to get better answers and create a better resource. It isn't personal, and it is with the best intentions. You are entitled to edit it back if you would like, or post a The Workplace Meta question about this specific edit. — jmac 49 secs ago

Hats, anyone?

Q: Do we want more hats?

JimIt's hat time of year again... Stack Exchange is doing Winterbash again. We joined the fun last year, so I was looking to get opinions about this year. This year, it will run from 16 December 2013 to 3 January 2014. It is essentially, as enderland said last year, a "totally fun feature with no ...

@Jim My father was killed by a hat at Christmas time. I can't believe you'd be so insensitive as to bring it up... <runs off sobbing>

Woah, this reads like a complete rant. You might try rephrasing this to be a bit more of a constructive question and it will be much better received. "My coworker sucks" is not a good way to get meaningful answers. — enderland 1 min ago

would this question fit Workplace? (ignore downvote, it's mine and will likely go away soon as the OP edited it into better shape)

Q: Should we be completely honest to our clients about a time frame for a project?

Jevison7xI have been having this experience for sometime now, when a client needs a software product and contacts me, the client usually wants to know the time frame on which this product will be accomplished. Usually as a software developer I might not be able to fully determine how long it will take me ...

I guess...

@jmac I hate when OP's think that I was trying to be disrespectful with an edit. I was trying to clarify his question to get it reopened. Being as the other question (about interviewing indians) had already been asked I focused it on the female candidates. Which seemed to be the primary point of the original question anyway
@jmac OMG I am so sorry who knew when I threw the hat up in the air like that it would actually come back down?
@gnat Does programmers not want it? I wouldnt have a problem with the question except that it already has a programmers specific accepted answer.

@Chad I didn't yet made up my mind on that. While reviewing edits to it, I noticed it's of the kind that often receives comments like "migrate to Workplace" and decided to ask here before someone else proposes it, mostly to ensure that if it happens, we won't migrate wrong

@Oded is 100% correct. Therefore, the correct move is to fire your company. — Jim G. 9 secs ago

Q: Is this HR trap or an act of negligence?

user1075940Recently I have had an interview for QA technician, where good knowledge of spelling and grammar were essential. Unfortunately I didn't get the job, but one thing still bothers me. The return message contained 2 very serious spelling errors and 1 stylistics. That is a lot for 3 sentences (less t...

I fear that if someone doesnt answer something well I am going to get nailed for serial downvoting...
I think my last 4 down votes have all been on the same persons answers but thats just because the answers all suck and they answer every question even if they dont have anything to contribute

I downvoted a ton of answers/questions today
at least it felt like it

@enderland me too

lots of crap today. wooo

@enderland hmmm same at Programmers. Coincidence?

@gnat they always run out of votes though, every day is the same there

@enderland not quite. It was about like that in the end of my link-only answers crusade, when I pulled out old bad closeable questions that prompted for links. After it was over, I for one am out of votes about once a week, or even less frequently. At the end of a typical day I am happy to notice that I did not have to use a lot of CVs. Today is a bad day, really

@enderland your post complaining about a post complaining about posts having errors that has errors contains an error. Thought i'd let you know

@RhysW you saw what I did there? :)

Q: How should we adjust our approach to editing to minimize conflicts?

jmort253We've had some questions asked recently that were edited by the community that changed the meaning of the post significantly, at least in the eyes of the asker or other members of the community. This resulted in some debate and discontent in the comments. For instance: How can I express sympathy...

@Chad Me three. I was debating writing something in here about a drop in the quality of questions, but couldn't find data to back it up. It feels like every day we are getting 2-3 "tell me what to do" questions that are explicitly off-topic.
