Q: Apache2 multiuser multisite with ACL's (vagrant provision snippet)

Torrey BramanI have been working on / learning about setting up my own home (Ubuntu) server with the help of vagrant. @Duga Didn't we close a question like that earlier?

Maybe suggesting to write custom business process simulation software was not a great idea...
2

@Duga Got migrated and is a duplicate of codereview.stackexchange.com/revisions/105894/1

Though I don't really like existing tools either
We want to simulate the entire bus network in a city

@skiwi Use a city builder ^^

@skiwi I can see why this might be considered complex.
@Mast all my hours experience in SimCity will finally be useful!

12:16 PM
To make it more fun, our end goal is that the buses can skip stops if the system detects (omitting implementation details) that there is nobody at a busstop and should then reroute the bus if there is a shorter route
Therefore we want to use real road data and bus stop locations and inputting that data doesn't seem to mix very well with existing software

Totally not complex.
Sounds like a great project though.

I kinda want to design it myself, but it's not straight forward at all

It's just a data flow, surely.
All you're doing is applying a function to an array of routes, so to speak

Multi-dimensional array at least.

Though the buses move between bus stops, and passengers enter/exit the bus, passengers arrive at bus stops, passengers take time to enter and exit the bus

12:20 PM
Can the situation be reduced to a CSV-like oversight?

How do you mean?

The route of the bus.
Every stop gets a row. It takes x to reach it, which is one of the variables given in the row before.
Every stop has passengers leaving and stepping in.
Skipping a row would be quite easy.
Modifying the time it will take to reach the next stop as well.
I mean, sure, it gets awfully complex if you combine the whole project, but start by slicing up your elephant.

Most "events" (passenger leaving, stepping in, arriving at stop) will be determined by some probablistic function though

Yea, but does that function work runtime or can it generate a case to be fed into the simulator later?

You could give the passengers an end destination, or just give them a chance to exit the bus at every stop and force them to leave at the end of the ride
@Mast Runtime

12:26 PM
What's the goal of the simulation, to simulate human behaviour?
Or to measure efficiency?

Measure waiting times, bus passenger load, etc.
We want to compare the current situation as much as possible with our proposed situation (where bus could take shorter routes)

Sounds like you can't make too many generalisations while not having the time to do it the most accurate way either.

Just a note, you may find that this gets closed on CodeReview because it's "not code that you wrote". Bit of a gray area, just wanted to fore-warn you. — Zak 16 secs ago

Your system will screw those who walk to a bus stop last-minute :)
@Duga That's not how it works @Zak

Zak
@Mast It might, here. If the whole thing is literally all copy-pasted functions off the internet, then how does it count as their own code?
