I'm using Java to generate encrypted strings, and I get this warning at build time:
ECB encryption mode should not be used
So I'm wondering why I shouldn't use ECB and what I can use instead?
In particular, with some good answers (of which I tried to write one; not sure how well I did), I think it could make an excellent canonical resource to point to, whenever this question arises in the future.
(I wish there was some way to award a bounty to a question, rather than to an answer. Not that there's anything wrong with the (other) answers, but it's the question that I'd like to promote. Hence this chat spam.)
