With any luck, it'll reach 100 and I'll get a gold badge to add to my collection :)
With a lot of luck, the gold badge will roll in by the end of today, making it 3 gold badges this week :P
@anorton You need to post in the right places :) Reddit doesn't seem to care about this (and SE doesn't care much for Redditors). HN folks are part SE haters part SE lovers, so we can net in a goodly amount of SE lovers from a link
I'm working for ASME SDC 2013, so I got a few connections. Yesterday we(some of my teammates, we didn't have enough funding for all of us to go) won the Asia-Pacific region, on to San Diego in a few months!
@AshRj Well, not as much. Also, Reddit hates SE. HN partly understands it (if someone says something about SE, someone else steps in to correct them; you don't have to do it)
Poll : Should we ask SE to hold off launch for a week? (So, that we can give some time at least for some of Anindo's contacts/people to sign up ) We could also try to get people here into the chatroom in the meantime.
@AshRj We do have pretty much 24 hour coverage during the week, but weekends are touch and go :)
@AshRj Are you going to be here around this time tomorrow? I'm being pulled in a few directions today, and I don't want to leave you hanging as I keep wandering away from the keyboard.
@AshRj Sent out a mail to my contacts, gave them the chat link. I specified that active SE members would be the ones finding things interesting at this time, the rest in a few weeks or so. Let's see what comes of it.
@AshRj I just brought this up in the community team chat, but I think I'm the only one awake and here at the moment. I hope to get some input prior to talking about it tomorrow.
You guys have done an outright amazing job of organizing support for the proposal.
Sorry, my view was that I should not be a blocker to the launch, that I'd why I said to proceed. Regarding quality of those I bring in, they will mostly be very slow in engaging... These are people who travel a lot, and have little time for the. Net
Oh and my keyboard on the PC just died, I am now on the phone, hence many typos.
They will be active, but not good ice breakers. These are not the type to be first in posting questions, they will wait till there are existing questions of their interest. You know the type.
So yeah, not good to wait at this stage. Pre commitment would have been good merely to get the numbers you wanted in.
I don't mind either way. Note that we can always invite via the "invite an expert" box. Some more time till beta may give us a much higher chance of success, but it depends on how we use it -- we probably could share it in some other Arduino communities.
I guess that waiting a few days for @Anindo's shares to come around won't hurt. @Anindo, do you think that there is any point doing this? (I don't know how you've shared the links)
Then again, private betas do take a couple of days to launch :)

@Manishearth Which community is left ? I have posted in all the G+ groups. We have done Arduino.cc. Nobody here is an active member of Adafruit or Maker or Spark..
If you think that the 25 or so additional people you may have coming would significantly improve the initial core of users that will jump in right away, it might make sense, especially if you're concerned that you may be lacking a bit. But, you'd need to be really sure, I wouldn't want to delay much if you have plenty of enthused people waiting to dig in.
What you want is for the automatic 'nag' to sweep in just a few stragglers, not half of your committed core.
@Manishearth Hi... sorry I'd stepped out. No, my target community is artists / musicians who attend / have attended some electronic creativity events and workshops that I either participated in or led. These are mostly international travelers, who spend much of their time going from country to country, performing and participating in such events. Not the typical "Let me be the first to ask a question" segment.
Hence based on the discussions I'm seeing here, I would say that my mailer recipients would be more useful once things go live. Some might drop in to chat from time to time, but I am sure that causes no harm?
Wow... I leave for the night, and exciting things happen! :)
I'm fine with either waiting or not waiting. It doesn't make too much of a difference to me, and anyone I would share to would be on an indiv. basis--I could do so by email.
Btw, @AshRj what should we do about this room when the site launches? I'm open to moving it over, but I think that the auto-created room will already be there. We can also move the messages. Or just link to this room and invite all major participants (anorton, John, Anindo, etc)
